Do you know if the Apple store handing them out?
Yes, you just have to ask for them.

It would have been helpful if I knew that Apple was handing them out when I bought my XS. I went to AT&T to get an eSIM today for ~$5 (not a big deal) but I could have avoided the trip to AT&T.

If not aforementioned: The phone cannot detect the eSIM until the phone already has a physical sim card. I could not tell why it could not properly scan the eSIM's QR until I put a physical SIM in it, then it worked perfect. I'm only using the eSIM now.

I didn’t have a physical sim while activating the eSim but had to be connected to WiFi to register. I kept getting scanning error while on LTE.

I have AT&T on my eSIM and Verizon on a nano sim. AT&T doesn’t always work around here, so I switch to Verizon when there is low or no AT&T service.

I plan on switching my nano sim to Xfinity and only use it as a back up.

If you don’t plan on having 2 services or traveling out of the country, there’s no point in switching to e-sim.

My take on that is that in my travels sometimes there is no At&t or TMoblie service but the one or the other is active.
I have At&t on eSim(prepaid) and Tmobile on the card. Now when consumer cellar does eSim I would switch to that as a backup service as it is cheaper than At&t..

What happens when I transfer my personal number to eSIM and then in the future, I get a new phone. Do I have to go to ATT and transfer the number to the new phone eSIM?

How did you get AT&T prepaid set up on eSim? I tried and they denied.

If AT&T doesn't go digital, then yes.

I have no idea why AT&T even charges $5. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I want to activate a new line? $5 for the SIM card. Not happy about it.

That said I activated two iPhone XS with eSIM neither required me to have physical SIM in them. I was able to turn on and activate both phones without any SIM. To activate the eSIM, the only requirement was I was connected to WiFi. The iPhone does need to download the eSIM provisioning profile from AT&T therefore requires a working internet connection. Perhaps the WiFi you connected to had problems. For example, a device that does not have a physical SIM slot is the Apple Watch with cellular. You use an iPhone with either working internet to download the profile into the eSIM onto the watch.

I went to an ATT store today for ***** and giggles while the wife was doing some last minute xmas shopping. I asked what happens if i restore a phone with an esim. They said esim is not yet live and will not be available till next year. Once i showed them my phone that it is live i asked for a manager. Manager said my phone wont work as expected and i shouldn't be using it. It still baffles me how clueless these clowns are.
