oh, okay. come back when you learn to read press releases.

did you order that case yet

I think you need to give the press release another "once-over" if you disagree. Or just scroll through the ~30 pages of posts on this topic. Whichever...

you really don't think the press release states that june/july/august upgrade eligibility dates are eligible now for the subsidized price (199/299)?

I stood in line at Apple today. Went through the purchase process. Apple guy says $700 (32gb). Huh? Get on the phone with AT&T. Not eligible for anything. By that time I was so upset - I just bought the phone and left thinking I'd deal with it later. Stopped at AT&T who were flabberghasted. AT&T is claiming while I meet all criteria for $199/$299, I wasn't even allowed to do $399/$499! Why? Because a year ago a payment or 2 went to another AT&T address. I only found out when my line was dead for at most TWO HOURS which I called, made the online payment, fixed my online banking address.

Because of that one episode on that one day a year ago - I'm not qualified for sh*t. Frankly, I'm starting to think the "no-committment" price might be better in the long run. AT&T store is looking into this. None of them had ever seen such a thing before and feel it's way overkill for one event and couldn't believe it. Neither Apple or AT&T has had anyone pay $600-700.

Same thing happened to me in getting my deposit back. I called AT&T and told them my CC got stolen and to halt payments on it and put it on a new card. Of course they didn't and my line went dead. Literally for an hour and it was back up. Now I can't get my deposit back OR qualify for the new pricing.

Who should I call to talk about this? I tried to talk to two different in store reps and one on the phone. None of them knew anything about this.

Also I would like to add i spend over 270 a month on a 4 person family plan. This family plan also has a FAN number on it, so when I call I get business customer service.

Well, I am discouraged by how AT&T is handling this but I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for someone who knowingly went to the store, handed them $700 and now is complaining they didn't the discount.
You gambled and lost.
Simple as that.

Just to make sure I understand AT&T's pricing policy, will someone please verify my summary.

Not eligible for upgrade or no contract pricing (full retail price):
$599 (16GB) or $699 (32GB)

Early upgrade price:
$399 (16GB) or $499 (32GB)

New Customers, eligible for full upgrade:
$199 (16GB) or $299 (32GB)

So, all that being said, I purchased the 3G the day it came out and I spend over $100 a month. According to their updated pricing for 3G customers, should I be eligible for a full upgrade or only an early upgrade? I thought it would be a full upgrade, but that's not what a rep told me.

I got my 16GB 3GS for the $199 Price - on my 1 yr Anniversary

Hope this helps clear some of the fog...

My 1yr Anniversary is July 29th with my 3G, and I walked into the AT&T Store here in CA and asked, even though my upgrage option online said, "check after July 29th, 2009 for upgrade pricing bla bla bla"...I thought that I didn't have a shot at it, but ya, they got me a 16GB 3GS no problem, with a new 2yr. contract that is....in and out in about 10 minutes, I just have to wait for it to show up this week sometime. No biggie, I got other things to do while waiting for it to come in anyway.

Hope that helps?

Not really.
It has already been stated that if you showed a July date, you were already eligible.

full. dial *NEW# to confirm

That's what I assumed, but that's not what I'm being told. When I dial *NEW#, I am told that I am not eligible for an upgrade and that I *may* qualify for one on 12/12/2009. Also, the in-store manager at a local AT&T store was very adamant about me only being eligible for the early upgrade pricing (not the full upgrade). I showed him the AT&T press release, but he didn't care. I'm not sure what else I can do. I guess there's some fine print I'm missing.

Has your bill been 100 from the beginning of this current 2 year contract, or has it only recently gone up to 100? What about late payments?
I've also heard that it may have to be your pre tax dollars, but I also spoke with an AT&T supervisor on the phone who maintained that money has nothing to do with the speed at which you get an upgrade, which just totally confused me even more.

Yes, my bill has been over $100 for not only my current 3G plan, but also with the original iphone plan.

No late payments.

I was under the impression that money has almost everything to do with it. Unless I'm reading the press release wrong, it sounds like they will only honor the supposed upgrade to customers who spent $99 or more on a plan.

So has anyone had any luck upgrading to the 3Gs at an Apple store if you are in fact supposed to be able to upgrade early? I have been following this for a week or so and have not read good things so far. I plan on heading to the Apple Store first thing in the morning to upgrade and wanted to make sure. I should be good to get the full discount. I dialed the #NEW* or whatever it is and it sayd that I will be elligable for a full upgrade in July but not at this time. But the press release on this thread says that those of us that are due in July can go ahead and get the full discount. Am I going to run into problems when I get to the Apple store in the morning? Or, have these issues been worked out. The last thing I want to do is go up there and get up the the register only to find out that ATT has screwed up. I know it would be better to go through an ATT store but they are all out. Anyone got any advice?

Hello, I'm new and this is my first post.

I don't know if this is old news (can't be bother scrolling through 12 pages of bitching to find out), but originally when I went through the "Buy an iPhone" process on the online store for a 3GS two weeks ago, it said that it would be $299 for a 16GB now, or $199 if I waited until Sept 2nd, which I'm assuming was my anniversary. OK I thought, I'll wait till then - I fancy one but am not in a mad rush.

I thought I'd check again just now, as I'm surfing around trying to find a reason to delay cleaning my cat's litter tray, and lo and behold, I qualify for $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB), yet oddly my wife's is as it was, she got hers but a few days after me (last year). Shurely shome mishtake?

So assuming that's correct, I may be making a trip to my local store soon.

So did I miss something - have they had a change of heart?

Maybe they did have a change of heart. I have an upgrade date close to yours but nothing has changed on my account as far as iphone pricing. Granted i'm not a current iphone user and ou might be which could cause the change for you.

if you pay over $100 a month you might qualify for quicker upgrades too, i did

credit from AT&T

I pre-ordered online from AT&T after becoming eligible for their "best upgrade pricing" via the June 17th press release. I double checked with AT&T BEFORE ordering to make sure I qualified, and in fact confirmed that I did. I paid full price for the phone, and was told to expect a credit for the difference on my AT&T wireless bill. No credit appeared. Today I spent over an hour on the phone with what AT&T calls "customer service". None of the people on the phone had any idea what I was talking about, and in fact I had to forward them a link to their own press release. They said they'd look into it and get back to me.

Has anybody who pre-ordered online from AT&T actually received the credit as promised?

September is almost over, what about Oct, Nov, Dec?

MMS will officially be available in the US in 5 days. To improve holiday sales and to please existing customers(improve public relations), does anyone think AT&T will extend the iPhone 3GS upgrade price to those that would be eligible in Oct, Nov, Dec? :apple:

Nope.
MMS is outdated. Use email.
Best to wait until the major iPhone upgrade mid next year, then consider other cell phone companies as well. FCC may get involved by then and break up the exclusive agreement which is supposed to expire anyway.
