Well it's not AT&T, but simultaneously chatting with an online rep, and chatting with a rep over the phone. I got my activation fee waived. :D It's like pulling out teeth trying to get this fee waived with Sprint!

I called them yesterday.
I just nicely asked if they can remove that charge and a few minutes later I was done and thanked the nice associate.
Not saying they are all like that but if you get one unwilling to do it just be polite, thank them and call back to speak to someone else.
They been waiving all my upgrade fees for years.

Has anyone gotten their early upgrade fee waived? If so, how? I called and they would waive my activation fee but said they wont refund the $249 cause thats part of the equipment fee and dictated by apple. Looking for a creative way to get this credited back as a credit to my att account perhaps. thanks.

Good luck with that. That's not gonna happen.
You paid the early upgrade price on buying the iPhone cause you were not up for an update yet.

just gotta say thanks. I did this a few weeks ago for another line, so I was already aware, but this thread reminded me to do this for my main line.

wish i coulda got the 241.xx credit the other guy got though.

I think sometimes, saying "less is more". if you have a chat rep who doesn't immediately give in, why go thru that hassle and guilt try they try and impose? simply close chat and try with the next agent.

when i asked, they tried to explain what the fees go toward, to justify it i guess, so i just asked them to tell me what specifically does buying a new phone and agreeing to a 2 year contract do that necessitates this fee. then they immediately waived it.

Just did live chat and the representative was very nice and dropped both upgrade fees for a one time courtesy.
Saved $72 because of this thread, Thanks.

Just got out of live chat and had my upgrade fee credited back. Saved $36 because of this thread. Thanks.

Well I just went and did this. It was not as easy as some of you experienced, but they eventually did it. I just had to keep reminding them that I had been with them forever, that I am a valued customer, and that I bought an expensive phone in addition to signing another contract with them. Then there was a 5min pause and she said I should have the credit on my account. Thanks guys for this thread!!!

I got on live chat with ATT and after some teeth pulling I got one of our two upgrade fees credited back. Will it help if I try to call the 611 number to try and get the other upgrade fee credited back later on today? Has anyone had any luck getting half at one point and half at another for multiple upgrade fees?

Wow - me too. That was exceptionally easy. "i'm calling to request a waiver of my iphone upgrade fee". That was literally all I said, and she did it. A BIG THANK YOU to the OP, you saved me almost forty bucks.

For what it's worth, we have two iphones, have been with ATT for years and I upgraded just one phone. Perhaps that made it easier for them.

I called the 611 number and they waived the second upgrade fee. They did say that it was a one time credit and next time I would have to pay the fee. However, you bet that I will call them in two years if we upgrade again to get those fees waived too. :)

I went through a live chat session today and got $36 credited no problems.

The CSR did ask why I felt I should get a credit, and I responded that I upgraded the phone myself and did not have any att agent helping me at all through the process. And that was good enough for him.

As a FAN account holder, upgrade fee of $36 should not be charged. However, I had to call 611 to get it removed today. I guess AT&T changed their strategy to charge the fee first and then remove it if the customer whines. So... call them now !!!

Interesting. This is true with all FAN accounts? I was wondering why they waived my fee immediately, without even saying it's a one-time thing.

No this doesn't apply to all FAN accounts, my FAN doesn't waive the upgrade fee.

Didn't know if this applied to lines that were ported over from Sprint...but did it anyways...

Rep said the upgrade fees are valid charges but she will see what she can DO....

Guess what she DID...

She waived them!

$72 waived.

No this doesn't apply to all FAN accounts, my FAN doesn't wave the upgrade fee.

Same here...

this thread saved me 250 + 36 fee, plus another from an upgrade 3 weeks ago. Thanks Guys..

Registered just to say that this thread not only allowed me to get $40 credited back for my activation fee, but after a couple tries I got $217 of my $250 early upgrade fee credited back as well!

iPhone 5: $500
Sold 4S on eBay: -$340
Credit: -$217
--------------
= $57 profit and a new iPhone without an upgrade. :apple:

Got my $36 fee waived, plus $250 credited back to my account for early upgrade fee, $25 instant credit, and $10 monthly fee for unlimited text messaging for as long as I ave a text messaging plan. Thanks AT&T!!
