You are now chatting with 'Ronnie Robinson'

Ronnie Robinson: Thank you for choosing AT&T ,how may I assist you today?

Lougle: Good evening. I recently signed a 2 year contract extension and upgraded to a new iPhone. I was hoping I could have my upgrade fee waived or credited to my account.

Ronnie Robinson: I would be happy to see what I can do about your upgrade charge,Can you please verify the last four of the social that is on the account?

Lougle: Thank you so much.
Lougle: ####

Ronnie Robinson: Thank you ,please allow 2-3 minutes to access your account.
Ronnie Robinson: Is the upgrade charge on your current bill?

Lougle: I upgraded on Friday so I don't think so.
Lougle: Not yet.

Ronnie Robinson: Ok, so what I will do ,because it is not on your account yet ,is give you a credit for something else that is around the same price or you can always chat back in ,when the charges appear on your bill.Just let me know what you would like me to do?

Lougle: That sounds OK.
Lougle: Can you credit my data plan ($30) for one month? That's around the same amount.

Ronnie Robinson: Ok

Lougle: Great! Do you need anything from me?

Ronnie Robinson: No ,I am almost finished ,just having some system issues .I do apologize for the delay.

Lougle: OK

Ronnie Robinson: So the credit is a little over 39.00 because it also adjusts the tax for the charge ,Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?

Lougle: Thank you so much!

Worked for me.

I literally copied and pasted his message, changed it up to make it plural as I had upgraded two lines. He told me this was a 1 time act of courtesy for being a loyal customer. :D

Would they offer anything like this to a new customer? I'm thinking of using ATT and would jump on if they offered unlimited texting for $10 instead of $20

Just called 611 support to request waiver for two iPhone 5's.
Was told I already had discounts and was not eligible but rep said that he would see what he could do.
After further checking, he informed me that the 2 upgrade fees had already been waived and would show up as a credit on my next bill.
Strange -- but happy that I won't be paying an upgrade fee for the phones.
If I recall, I didn't pay an upgrade fee the last time -- although I was initially billed for the fee.

Worked for me! Two lines, total savings of $82.04.

rep: Thank you for your patience. It was done now!
rep: You will see the charge on the next bill but the credits were given in advance.
...
rep: Including tax, it is $82.04.

I don't see the online chat available. The only options for chat I see available are Data Support and International Care ...

Thx just called and had a really nice rep that offered even before I requested to take it off. I would of thought they would of dropped that B.S charge by now considering for one we don't need them to do anything to activate our iPhones and two they are not the only iPhone carrier anymore. You know how much money I can save if I leave AT&T?

Tried chat first time, said no. Said the following:

"Thanks for your business. Our upgrade fees are applied to all customers regardless of tenure with us."

Second, said the same exact thing, wanted to know who was telling me I could receive a waiver, responded I am a loyal customer and I was hoping to have the upgrade fees taken off.

Next, she said she is looking into options and finally gave me the waiver for two lines totaling $79.88.

Something I noticed with previous interactions, first one was male, second female, the female reps seem to be more responsive to customer requests.

Got the $36 waived on my wife's line (full upgrade eligible).
They wouldn't budge on waiving the $250 for me to upgrade my line.

XXX: Thank you but my question was regarding the 9451 line. There is no way to waive the $250 early upgrade? Considering that I already ordered another phone for my wife's line?

Sherry Taylor: No that is the early upgrade pricing.

Sherry Taylor: That can not be waived.

Sherry Taylor: Do you have any other questions?

XXX: So basically, i can terminate early for a lesser price and move to another carrier for a total cost that is lower than paying the early upgrade pricing?

Sherry Taylor: Yes.

Me: Hi, I'm an awesome customer and have been for quite some time. Can you waive the $36 activation fee for my new phone?

Them: Why yes, you have been awesome. I will waive the fee now.

They've always waived the 36.00 fee (bogus to begin with) on every upgrade I've had. We have 3 iphones on our plan all eligible at different times and I just call in and ask to have them waived and never had any guff from them on waiving the fee.

Thanks for this thread.

Haven't been with AT&T long enough to ever upgrade before and didn't even think they would try and charge a fee for the privilege of signing up for another two years (agree, it is a bogus fee) but at least they have agreed to waive it before I spend $400 on more iPhones.

I asked before and never got an answer.

Did anyone not get charged an upgrade fee?

I don't see it on my credit card.

Do they put it on your wireless bill?

How did you know you got charged?

Got the 2 from the preordered Apple.com iphones (supposed to be delivered the 27th) waived through an online att rep. She did comment this would be the last ones waived - I have 6 lines through att and may upgrade 2 more of them. Funny, I've never requested the upgrades be waived before. Wonder if they really keep track...

It will be on your first wireless bill after you new purchase. It wasn't on my bill yet so the rep made some notes and I will be credited as soon as it appears.

I saw mine on my bill that cut 3 days after I preordered the phones. Didn't even have the damn things in my hand and I was charged...

I told them I thought it was ridiculous that I had to pay an upgrade fee when I could just go an buy a phone off of eBay or Craigslist and throw my SIM card in it... And that it would work just fine.

They tried to give me those pre-scripted lines about all customers and what not. So I told the rep "thats fine, I have no problem returning this phone and switching to Verizon."

Then I got, "If you give me a moment, I will look into your account further to see what I can do" (something like this).

Then they waived the fee, and told me that "This fee will be waived this time, but you will have to pay them in the future."

I responded with "And that will be when I cancel my service with AT&T, so no I won't."
