Thanks it worked for me.

The chat operator gave me some BS about needing to charge the fee in order to save me money on the cost of the phone. I told him VZ had LTE in my area and yet I still stayed with AT&T and it made me sad that they wanted to punish me with a fee for staying with them. He came right back and removed it.

If they still would have given you trouble, your next move would have been to say you will just return the phone then and go to VZW.

I saved $36.00 getting my fee removed.

Spoke with Charity Sumer, she was excellent! I had my fee waived in less than 5mins. Thank you OP.

Online chat was not available for me. Perhaps it was my corporate discount.

After getting a 3rd representative, I got my $38.44 $36 plus taxes). Of course she gave me the script about how activation fees are not usually waived. I go the confirmation email too.

It seemed like a lot more work for me, but thank you!

Worked for me! They asked why I think the fee should be waived. I explained that I've had a long term account with them and just chose to extend that another 2 years, and I was unhappy that I was expected to pay $36 to do that. They said they completely understood and told me they would waive it. Easy!

I did not get an email of my fee being waved (but it is on the next bill, where the guy said he would apply the credits). Do you think that matters?

Thanks for the info, worked for me.

"I can explain this fee to you. The upgrade fee is to allow us to assist customers with recommending new equipment, offering special offers and discounts, providing assistance with the upgrade process if needed, and supporting the returns process within 30 days. These specialized processes help us to ensure you are satisfied with your new equipment, and are ready to use it the day you receive it. The upgrade fee allows us to defray some of these additional service costs. I can get the fee waived for you as a one time thing but in the future, you might get charged again if you will get a phone at a subsidized rate.
"

YEAH!!

I used the wording in the OP and also he asked why again, and I mentioned been with them for 6-8 years and just renewed a 2 year contract, and that they did it for my other lines. I would appreciate the same for this line. You guys will get it back anyways over the 2 years. Done. Credited. :)

And most of the people still don't like Att. Most like t-mo with no outcity coverage or VZW with dragonic rate plans "all you can spare". I called att and have no activation plus a-list on 700 min plan.
I was about to switch Straight Talk, but decided to stay.

VZW wants 80 dollars more now, t-mo - no coverage, Sprint(!?!) slow internet with grandfather network.

I don't work Att or their affiliates.

Tried the first time and only got 50 dollars credit. Tried later on and Got 3 lines waived. Thank you OP you saved me a lot of money.

It just worked for me - saved me $72. Thank you OP and everyone else for keeping this thread going.

tried this today. it worked and i got my $36 fee waived.

they tried to work around my question by explaining what they use the upgrade fee for, however, i just mentioned that i have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and that i just signed another 2 year contract

will try again when my sister upgrades

got 1 set of fees waived with no questions, but not a second. will try again tomorrow. lady took forever and didn't budge when i said i've been with them well over 10 years and have no problems switching providers

thanks for the tip

I am having a hell of a time trying to find live chat. Anyone have a direct link?

Worked for me today by calling 611 and using the same line as the original poster. I also mentioned I felt like I was being punished by staying with AT&T instead of going to Verizon.

$36 credit to my account will be posted.

I asked about my unlock status but she wasn't any help.

I hopped on the chat yesterday and in less than 5 minutes they removed the fee. :)

I just said that I had been a customer with them since 2008, and that it seemed wrong for them to charge me $36 when I was out of contract and that by upgrading I was basically committing to stay with them another 2 years. He removed it immediately with no issues at all.
