Wow, $5!
Last time I had an outage with Spectrum, they gave me a $2.5 discount lol
Gotta love these corporations. They barely pay anything to their regular employees, charge their customers an arm and a leg for mediocre services, but the c-level crowd there makes all the money in the world.
Sounds like you got it all figured out! Why don’t you start your own corporation and solve all those problems 😂

I get the (monthly fee / number days in month) * # days outage = refund you get thinking, but I have to wonder what the indirect costs are? What if your business uses AT&T for company phones, and your job requires a lot of calling people, especially where there's no wifi? What if a family member goes to the hospital, and need to contact you immediately? Sure, there's email or whatever, but sometimes wifi isn't always available.

You put in an insurance claim with your insurance company if you have a business. My sister deals wit this all the time.

Double it and buy a Big Mac. Oh wait, I think they are 11.99 now.

$5 doesn’t even buy you food at McDonalds anymore with inflation, smh 🤦‍♀️
I regularly get a Big Mac, Fries and medium drink for $6 using their app. This week it's double cheeseburger, fries and med drink for $6. Or you can get any two -- Quarter Pounder w/cheese, Big Mac, or 10pc nuggets for about $6 or less.

I don't see what the joke is. Issuing a credit to THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of subscribers is no joke to their bottom line and a pretty commendable admission of their error.
By issuing such blank credits, AT&T basically tells their customer: your inconvenience only worth $5, no Matter how you are being impacted during the downtime. As for the claim of “hurting their bottom line”, come on, give me a break of that. They can easily recoup that amount Of “loss” in no time from customer base.

Wow, what are the mobile rates like in America?! Here in the UK I'm charged $0.94 a day and that's for unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and unlimited 5G data (sim only).
Mobile rates in the US are absurd. The more lines you get, the cheaper it is for the lines.

Most start out around $65 for 1 line and go from there. Here is an example from AT&T:

Mobile rates can vary widely in the U.S. and depend on what additional features (besides talk, text and data) one may want, prepaid vs. postpaid, carrier, etc. The cheapest postpaid AT&T plan with unlimited talk, text and data is $50.99/month (1 line, plus taxes/fees). AT&T has unlimited prepaid plans for as little as $25/month ($300 paid upfront for 1 line and 1 year of service, plus taxes/fees).

What did people do before there were cell phones? To wrap one's life around a technology that is prone to failure, either from network outages, or dead zones while traveling, is strange.

For me, my cell phone gets put on my desk in my office and ignored starting at 8:00 PM until 8:00 AM the next morning.

Actually, your inconvenience is worth nothing. Not to AT&T, not to doctors, not to people that cause accidents and traffic backups, not to the fool at the grocery store that does not know how to use a credit card. Your inconvenience is not anyone else's problem or worth anything to anybody. Be glad you got $5.00.

You're either on an old plan, have a promo plan or aren't on any of the big 3 carriers.
I use xfinity wireless and have been for almost five years. Xfinity is not one of the big three, but it certainly is a viable service. Xfinity uses Verizon towers so the service is quite good. The same as what I had on Verizon and for half the price.

I am not on an old plan or a promo plan.

Oh I agree. Thats why I mentioned those because you def were on an MVNO, which is more than suitable. I dont disagree with you at all.

Following this logic, AT&T should be able to walk away and face no consequences and provide no compensation even if the breakdown lasts more than 24 hours, or much longer. I guess that’s how US works nowadays.
