Well I just spoke with another agent for the third time. This one at least was easier to understand, He asked me how old was my sim card, I told him its about 4 years old now. He put me on hold and told me that he needed to check it. He came back and said that its either too old or defective, He made notes in my account so that I can get a free one from ATT. Idk if that will work but I've heard people with older sim cards haven't had an issue. At this point ill try a new sim card and see if that fixes it.

Something is messed up in their systems or processes. When I upgraded to Elite last week that should have automatically triggered my sim to be provisioned for 5G. It didn't.
You have to call to get them to provision. The 5G card that came with my 12 wasn't showing the 5G carrier settings in the iphone. I'm sure they'll eventually get it straightened out automatically but the workaround is getting a rep to do it.

Already went through the hassle and thankfully I was ultimately successful. But my point is that my efforts should not have been necessary.

It's a similar issue when the Series 3 watch came out. You had to call AT&T and get them to activate the cellular option. They're just not very good when new features are made available.

Plus, it also sounds like you will be 'saving' on battery life, too...

Yeah, the reality is that LTE is very fast and dependable at my home and at work. At this time I don't feel the need for a speed boost and certainly not the drain to the wallet and the battery.

Be sure to push for them to give you some kind of credit for paying for something you are unable to get. I find that pushing for a credit while 'killing them with kindness' works best

I'm on prepaid lol, not sure if they can give me anything, at this point ill be happy if it works and i get 5G

Well, I went to ATT store, the guy said "Yeah you need a new 5G sim card for you to get 5G" He gave me the new SIM and in the store I did see the 5G on and 5G auto options in my menu but as soon as I walked out the store it went back to the 4G/LTE options. I asked them why and they said because there's no 5G in the area.. Now that I'm home I still don't see the 5G option... Its back to what it was before. I took screen shot of my phone while I was in the 5G menu, oddly enough I couldn't select 5G on or auto, only LTE, which I found weird. Either my area doesn't have 5G (Which the map says I do) or not sure what's going on. Here's a photo of the 5G sim card I got and the 5G options before they went away

I'm not in a 5G area, yet I have the 5G options showing, so I think he's wrong

Don’t think that’s true. I would call and have them update it on their end.

Glad you are all sorted. It is definitely possible that in your case it was indeed related to the physical SIM.
Yes finally, my only concern is how much more trouble it will be when I get the Pro Max phone lol. And yes I needed a new SIM in my case. Whoever has an older case you should go to ATT for a new one. Mine said 5G on it and the employee said they just released them

I have new SIM that came with the iPhone 12 pro, ELITE plan, and still no 5G option in cellular data - spoke to ATT 5x, bunch of different people - said updated my IMEI/ICCID several times - still no good, only 4G/LTE options - should I ask for a new SIM?

I would, not sure why yours isn't working. Go to ATT store and see if they can swap it out. Mine worked right away, although it went back to 4G/LTE, but i rebooted an hour after I got home and it went to 5G

Something is definitely not right on the AT&T system side. Even prior to the fix, when i logged into myAT&T it was showing my new iPhone 12. So their system did know about the knew phone and should have handled the new IMEI correctly. But obviously did not, for me and many others.
It’s computers and software....what could go wrong? Works every time without fail.....righttttt. All I know is I am not getting into any autonomous vehicle ever. What if it needs a reboot while doing 70 mph on a curve !

Boys and girls, the SIM card age has nothing to do with 5G support. You need a plan that aupports 5G. I didn't, so when I went to AT&T web site, it even asked me through a wizard if I want to upgrade to an "elite" plan. Doing so (which was actually slightly sheaper than my old ultimate plan) made the 5G option appear.

Anything else you did? I did same but still no 5G option on phone - upgraded to ELITE on 10-14

Did you confirm that the start date of your new plan is effective on 10/14 and not on the start date of your next billing period? I know this sounds simplistic, but sometimes this kind of stuff gets overlooked. Hope you get this resolved!
