Well my wife’s desert titanium was scheduled to ship Oct 11th and it just shipped today.

Meanwhile my natural titanium is still scheduled for Oct 11

I visited my local AT&T company store yesterday and spoke with the store manager. Here's what I confirmed:

1. The store cannot process the trade-in for my iPhone 16 Pro Max, which I ordered AT&T online, because their system already has the information about the trade-in device I pledged during the order process, including the IMEI. (I'm not entirely sure whether they cannot or simply will not process it.)

2. Since I had already entered the IMEI for my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I asked if I could turn in another eligible device, like an iPhone 12, which also qualifies for the $1,000 credit. The manager suggested contacting AT&T customer service to check, but she couldn’t confirm whether this would be possible.

I will follow up with customer service to inquire about the second question.
I just finished a chat with AT&T's trade-in customer service, and here’s the outcome:
  1. I am unable to modify the trade-in made through my online order. In my case, I pledged to trade in my iPhone 14 Pro Max when ordering the iPhone 16 Pro Max. To make any changes, I would need to cancel the current trade-in and start a new trade-in process.
  2. Once the trade-in is canceled(which I have done with the chat rep.), I have two options:
2-1. Visit tradein.att.com to submit a new trade-in for a different device. In this case, I’ll be trading in my iPhone 12, which qualifies for the $1,000 credit.
2-2. Alternatively, I can visit my local AT&T store and process the new trade-in with the iPhone 12.
Once I receive the iPhone 12 from my son, I’ll visit the local AT&T store to proceed with the new trade-in. I’ll keep you updated.

(edit: the instruction from the chat rep.)
Taylar: Go to the link above I sent https://tradein.att.com/ Select the Device you want to TRADE IN, Make, Model, Storage Capacity (If you do not see your device, use the 'Search' function at the bottom of the screen.) Answer questions and enter * pieces of information you will need to create the Trade. PROMO CODE: TRADEOFFER24 Click on Continue Enter Personal information Select a Shipping method and you will have the options. “Print Shipping Label” “Shipping Materials” or “Drop off to the Store” Select to continue to complete the trade.

Taylar: Yes you can resubmit it once I make the cancellation for you. This is only for the trade in portion that you are doing you will not be reprocessing for a new phone.

Thanks for the update on your saga to make a simple change to your trade-in device. Keep us updated on your trade-in attempt at your local AT&T store.

For all the people who are patiently waiting for thier iPhone 16 (or various versions) how early did you get up and had access to the Apple Store or the Apple Store app? I had mine saved and ready to purchase on the 13th on the Apple Store App. (Thanks to my brother(-in-law) because he told my sister about it and she told my mom about it and I got it all set up. (I don't understand why I wasn't told directly, but oh well. I have it now and I am learning things every day.)

I preordered through AT&Ts website at maybe 8pm that Friday night and received on launch day. Remember it depends entirely on inventory and demand for the device they picked.

I just wanted to try the process above but it actually went through. How do I cancel it? since I want to trade in store when iphone 16 pro max is available in store

How come the steps above mentions nothing about the new iphone 16? what is the point of trade in old iphone without new one?

You don't need to cancel anything at the moment. Which Option did you chose and did you receive an email? We need a little more information to determine if you even need to cancel before you go the store to purchase your new iPhone. If you do nothing it will expire in 30 days.

Simply because you don't have to tie this "old" device to a new purchase. You can just trade it in for a Promotional Card that can be used towards accessories or to make a bill payment both online and at your local AT&T store.

What you want is the Device offers via monthly bill credits on your account to take advantage of the $1000 Promotion. You get it setup when you purchase your new iPhone in-store and just make your trade-in at the same time.

ETA: add last sentence.

I got an email with 3 steps and the last step quoted below. so I can trade in my old phone without even buying anything? Then buying iphone 16 later when it is available in store and this credit would be applied to monthly bill?

I was planning to drop off the old phone when I know the store has iphone 16 so that I can pick up and drop off on the same visit.

Step 3
Visit a nearby AT&T Retail store and let them know you are here to drop your trade-in device. The Store Rep will complete the drop off process for you.

Specifically, if you are wanting the $1,000 in bill credits over 36 months, you'd have to buy a new device, a new 16 Pro or Pro Max. Then, you'd also trade in your old device. This is assuming the device you trade in will be eligible for the $1,000 in bill credits. The amount of the credits is different for the 16 and 16 Plus.

You can trade in your device without a purchase, and they'll mail you a gift card or a promotional card or you can get bill credits. I'm not sure what amount you'd get in that case. My belief is that you'd get the the trade-in value on a card or in bill credits, but I'm not entire sure.

It seems like you've already ordered a new device, correct?

Yes you can turn your device in for the trade-in price. However you can't take the Promotional card and then get the monthly credits worth up to $1000. It is one or the other.

my intention is to buy iphone 16 pro max with $1000 credit. However, my trade-in on online did not include iphone purchase (just trade in). Do I need to cancel it before going to ATT story to trade in and purchase iphone 16 pro max? I tried to cancel through Chat but ATT chat couldn't cancel and ask me to do it in store

Also the offer from ATT mentioned that I would get iphone 16 pro max for free ($1200) if I also have ATT home internet. I am not sure if it would mean signing up for new home internet. or if it would work for exisiting home internet.

Cancel that.

You have to initiate the trade-in process when you purchase your 16 Pro Max. When you start the process of ordering the phone, they will ask if you want to trade in an old device and that's where you select that you want to trade-in.

I just saw this earlier today. It looks like it's for people that sign up for new AT&T Fiber service. Too bad for me, they stopped servicing my area few years ago.

GET $200 IN BILL CREDITS WHEN YOU Sign up for AT&T FIBER

Additional $200 Offer Details

  • Discounts: Up to an additional $200 off when you sign up for new AT&T Fiber (300M or higher) service and meet all other iPhone 16 Pro Max trade-in offer requirements
  • $200 in credits applied monthly in equal amounts ($5.56/mo.) over 36 months
  • Requirements: AT&T Fiber service address must match address on wireless account. Install must be completed within 30 days of new device purchase

Not sure what you meant. Did you mean I have to cancel it first (trade-in without purchase) before I can initiate a new trade-in with iphone 16 purchase?

If I go through trade using link below, it said that my old iphone already in trade in process and can't trade again. and that I have to cancel the previous trade-in first, see below.

A trade-in with this Device ID was recently completed. Please check and re-input the correct Device ID for the device being traded, or have the previous trade-in canceled before proceeding with the same Device ID.

Yes, that's what I meant.

You want to use to your trade-in toward your iPhone 16 Pro Max purchase, but you haven't ordered the device yet. When you are ready to order your new iPhone 16 PM, they will ask if you want to trade in your old device during the ordering process. That is where you will indicate that you wish to trade in an old device for the bill credits.

Yes you will need to cancel your trade-in you started earlier today or wait 30 days and it will expire. When did you want to try an in-store purchase? They usually don't have store inventory until later in October or early November.

As soon as they have iphone 16 Pro max in store, I want to trade in for it. I don't want to request trade in online and deal with shipping old phone.

I asked AT&T chat to cancel my trade-in and they said they couldn't do it and told me to do it in store. I couldn't find a way to cancel online either. The status link from the trade-in email did not work either. Can ATT store cancel it ?

Call them and talk with a rep.

When I ran estimate trade-in value from ATT online and answered 3 questions below. As long as you answer Yes to the first 2 questions (device power on and lock turned off), then I get $230 value. that would qualify min of $180 value to get $1000 credit for iphone 16 pro max.

Does that mean AT&T does not care if my iphone does not work correctly? for example, front camera does not work.

Does the Device Power On and Off?
Is the Activation Lock turned off? (e.g. Find My iPhone or Reactivation Lock)
Is the screen and device functioning correctly, free of

This is what they ask when you order online:

Is your device in good condition?
Select Yes if the following are true:
  • It turns on and off, and functions normally
  • The buttons and cameras work
  • It’s free of dents and scratches
  • The touchscreen and back glass aren’t damaged

I ran through online buy and trade in. it has the same result and my iphone 14 pro max quality for $1000 credit even if I answered No to the questions "Is your device or screen function correctly". As long as the phone turn on and lock disable, it qualifies.

Also, it did not block me from using my iPhone 14 IMEI that I already requested for trade-in ONLY (without purchase) earlier today.
