When did you order and when did you get that email?
I never got a backorder email, just the acknowledgment email

Ordered on Friday at around 9:45am CST. Got that e-mail the middle of the next day. I had received an order confirmation e-mail a few hours after I made the order.

i ordered 8g iphone friday around 10am. got the "placed order" email. yesterday status changed to backordered. this morning it was still backordered and just a minute ago, it changed to not backordered. still not shipped though. what is the deal?!?!

nevermind...it has changed once more. it's backordered again!

yup mine just did the same thing. i thought it was gonna ship, but nope :(

Stopped at a corp AT&T store this afternoon. Talked to a salesdroid he quoted 10-21 day order time on DF`s now.
I asked him 'Between you me and the wall here, did you guys only get 1 shipment on thursday 7/10 and split it up between fri/sat then know it was going to be DF`s from then on?'
His only response a blank look a blink and 'Uhhh no, we do not know why we have not got any shipments since saturday'

I love my 2g and will wait for the 32gig in Nov/Dec and upgrade then.

It's beginning to really bother me to read about folks still walking into the Apple Stores and buy any model of the phone, ad here we are waiting with no idea at all when ours will come in.

The nearest Apple Store for me is 3+ hours away and isn't an option.

I know its absolute BS.

I agree. I called my "local" (2 hours away) Apple store and they got a bunch of them in today. But I'm stuck in "Direct Fulfillment" world, so the prospect of actually GETTING an iPhone has long ago left my brain.

I feel like I'm stuck in iPhone purgatory. What do I have to do to just get the iPhone that I've paid for?

If i could find an email address for Apple customer service,i was certain there'd be one, and I am probably overlooking it, I'd send a note expressing my extreme disappointment in them for not looking out for those of us who do not have ready access to one of their stores.

They can't possibly be unaware of what's going on.

At My ATT&T store, 35 phones were ordered on Friday. Of the 18 that have shipped:

2 on the 13th
5 on the 14th
9 on the 15th
2 on the 16th

This looks ominous, none of the remaining backorders have switched to "shipped" yet today. Think I'm gonna go to the Apple Store.

just changed to NOT backordered. how and why is this status changing 3 times in one day? this is completely ridiculous!

how do you check how many orders the stores are getting?

Just talked to an At&t rep about the status of "back ordered"

According to the At&t rep that I spoke with, they were originally given specific instructions to inform customers that iphone orders would take "5-7 business days" for delivery from the point where you ordered the phone through Direct Fulfillment.

Then, as orders increased, the time-frame became "7-10" business days. This is the time-frame I was given.

Now, orders for the iphone 3g are back-ordered...and it will here is what they are told to tell customers now.

Iphones ordered on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th will begin to ship on July 14th. This does not mean all of them will ship, but it does mean they will start to ship from the beginning of the list and work their way down the list. This is why some phones were shipped from the 14th to the 16th.. and will continue to ship as they become available.

Now, iphones that were ordered after sunday the 13th will be SHIPPED 10-14 business days after the day they were ordered. Emails will come out when they are shipped, and nothing else can be done.

This is total crap. If I had known it was going to be that long, I would have never ordered my iphone.... instead, I would have gone through the apple iphone store about 45 minutes from my house WHERE THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE.

To make things worse, I called the apple store.
Question: "Hey how many iphones do you have available in 3g, black 16gb"?
Answer: "I don't know, I didn't bring my crystal ball to work today.... do you know how often i'm asked that"?

Question: "Ok... so, i'm going to let that go. Well, can you tell me if you have any available and if you have a long line... do you THINK it's worth my hour drive to come get one... do you THINK you'll have one for me when i get there?"
Answer: "We have a line, we have some available, i'm not sure what else to tell you".

Thanks At&t and Apple for taking my money, making me run around, and ultimately wait it out... for what? I don't have anything but stress to show for this large scandal.

i did a DF on friday at about 10am PST and have experienced the switching b/t backordered and not. for the past 2 days, the phone has shown that it isnt back ordered but it hasnt shipped. i dont know whats going on here. i dont understand why people waiting for DF cant go to the apple store, buy one, and take it to ATT to deal with all the FAN and other stuff there?

I got mine last Sunday but are people still lining up at stores for one of these things? If so, that's ridiculous.

because we've already given At&t our money??!?!?! So, many of us might not have another 300 bucks to dish out?

Also.. since At&t has already ordered the phone, you'd have to pay FULL NO-CONTRACT price from apple to get it, not the cheaper price.

Then, you'd have to STRUGGLE with at&t to get the other amount refunded, IF THEY WOULD EVEN DO IT.... which I doubt.

So, you'd be screwed. Make sense?

While that apple employee shouldn't have responded like that, I think we are all just plain sick of waiting. Employees are sick of us asking for them, and we are sick of them NOT having them. Everyone's just getting pissed at this whole thing.

At least you have the option to drive- if I wanted to go to an apple store I would have to pay $180 bucks for a 20 minute plane ride, plus taxi fares, or pay $400 to bring my car on a three hour ferry ride and a hotel room for the night! We have two AT&T stores here and they have both been sold out since Friday at like 10:00 AM and won't have any more stock until all DF's are in, so It's gonna be faster to get one through DF for me even if it takes a month!

While I understand that it is probably annoying to receive those calls all day long, it IS their job. They knew they'd be getting those calls. There is no excuse for the sarcasm.

I don't see a damned thing wrong with anyone of us calling to check inventory before we go and waste our time.

While I was sitting at AT&T placing my order the phone rang and a CSR just picked it up and hung it up. Now that's what I call Customer Service. She made the comment that she was tired of the calls...What in the world did they expect was going to happen.

Simple, if you don't want to be bothered don't work in a public service industry.

Here is something to make the plot thicken...

My girlfriend and I went into our local AT&T store on Friday July 11th at around 5pm. No surprise, iPhone sold out. We order them anyway, 2 8gb iPhones, and played the back order waiting game.

On Tuesday, my girlfriend gets a call from AT&T that says her iPhone has arrived. Awesome. I should be receiving the same call. No such call came and I'm still waiting.

Now... playing devil's advocate... maybe hers was the last one shipped and I should be next on the list. However, I placed my order before her. My order placed 5:13pm and hers on 5:18pm. W T F.

I think I have been skipped over. I'm pretty pissed.

I was under the impression that your card wouldn't be charged until the order as shipped? Anyway, AmEx could sort that out for you, assuming you have/paid with it.

Yeah its a bit ridiculous that At&t can't keep there word on first come first serve. I found it unbelievable that a bunch of people that ordered theres on Saturday when i bought mine on Friday morning recieved theirs before mine.

I'm sick of their lies

My guess is they have monkeys throwing darts at a board deciding on what order to ship next

I would go to apple.com/retail and tell them. I did that before and not 24 hours later had the manager calling me back.

Hey, I am a first time poster that has been following this thread for a while.

Anyways, I ordered my Iphone (16gb black) on Friday at like 9:00est on this DF BS. My order number is 19. The order before me got his shipped and a few orders after me had theirs shipped but for all I know they ordered an 8gb or a white one. The last few days it has been going back and forth between backorder to instock like everyone else. Right now its on backorder. When I bought it they authorized my card but the authorization fell off after a few days. I expected that. But I just checked my bank account online and Att has reauthorized it again which is really strange. Is that a good indication that it will ship soon or am I just getting my hopes up again all to have them crushed?

reading from another thread that debit holds only last a few days then they expire and the company (att) will send another request.
