AT&T - iPhone 3G on Backorder for 5-7 Days.

I just got a phone call from AT&T. Ran to the phone, picked it up and it was an automated survey on my experience in the store. Aaaaaarggggggh!
 
Local Store update

Here is the deal.. I called my local ATT store where I purchased the phone last Friday and the guy said he will check in the back.

To my surprise he called back and said that my phone wasn't in there, but there might be a good chance that it would come in tomorrow as they are processing orders today and tomorrow for orders placed last Friday.
Well at least in the North Dallas area that is.

Still no phone....

Best Story Ever!

Well I just got done picking my white 16GB up and getting all my stuff on it. From West Texas and ordered it on Saturday around noon.
 
cant understand why i was the first one to place an order on two 16gb black and i have yet to receive my phones....I know i was the first one to place the order because the two people in front of me got the last of ATT's stock Friday morning. I went by the store earlier today and bumped into some people i was online with AND THEY HAVE THEIR PHONES ALREADY. unbelievable. the lady at the store was telling me that they dont come in any particular order. which makes absolutely no sense to me, it should be on a first come first serve basis. you order your phone first, you get it first. its ridiculous that i waited in line for 4.5 hours and i still dont have a phone yet the people that got there 5pm after work, ordered theres, and they have it already
i havent even signed my contract yet and im already regretting ever involving myself with AT&T.
all she could say was "i dont know sir"
 
Looks like 8gig are back at the warehouse my store (Indiana) is attached to. Memphis maybe.

settle down. it's just a phone, I'm sure you'll survive if it comes a few days later.
 
Picked up white 16 gig DF today - black is still on back order - ATT says blacks are shipping slower for some reason.

I think the demand for black is much higher.
 
Enough of the "calm down..."

Ok who else here is tired of the people coming to the forum and then asking people to calm down or the it's just a phone? Everyone knows its just a phone and the world will not end if we dont get the phone in the time frame we hoped for. We are just anxious to get something we have been looking forward to, like Christmas in the middle of the summer. At the end of the day family, health, friends, is more important than any phone will ever be. With that said though let us have our fun and if you dont like it, stop reading it!
 
Got mine.

I was in line on launch day at a AT&T store, when I was at the countered I was informed only 8gig 3g's were left, so I opted for the direct fufillment option for the black 16gig. I got mine yesterday, a day after I received the backorder email. Today I went to my local mall around noon, and they had iphones instock as well.
 
I wouldn't mind waiting a few days, but the AT&T store I called said it wouldn't ship until anywhere from a week to 20 days. I rather just go to the Apple Store.

Has anyone had any luck recently checking the att order status page?
 
this is interesting. i just checked again and went back one number. if everything's correct, i'm next in line to have my phone shipped though it currently says backordered. i'll let everyone know though i'm skeptical still.

I ordered mine on Monday afternoon in NYC, and was told 3-5 business days, but I'm guessing that I'll have some more bonding time with my old Verizon phone than I had hoped.

I tried to do this today - both the CSR and the Sales person said it would put me at the back of the line - i would have to refuse the iPhone when it got to the store.
 
So, I've been stalking the status site.
I'm order number 58213.
The last one thats been shipped was 58174.

I ordered mine Sunday morning, and the man at AT&T told me it would take 7-10 days. Does this seem right or should i expect to be waiting longer?
 
I am getting pretty worried about how long we are going to have to wait. None of the orders for my store have shipped since Tuesday. The status has flipped from backordered to not backordered, but none have updated to shipped since then.

Easy for you to say. AT&T could not possibly handle this any worse.

Have no stock on Friday for a supposed launch. It was a lie. They had so few phones they should have told people not to bother. 100+ people in line for 20 phones.

And they wouldn't tell people so that they'd sucker them into ordering.

Then a totally screwed up ordering system which apparently ships things at random.

I'm starting to think I don't need this from my phone company. If they're this bad before you even have their service, they'll be much worse after the fact. And add to that their incredibly bad coverage where they say they have coverage, and 1/2 the country where they don't have any coverage, and their tiny little areas where they even claim to have 3G.
