AT&T - iPhone 3G on Backorder for 5-7 Days.

For Those of You Keeping Score At Home...

The DF order for a white 3G I placed around 6 pm on Saturday just flipped to "Shipped", and is scheduled by FedEx to arrive at 3 pm on Friday. I had in the interim picked up the same phone at an Apple retail store in suburban Atlanta, so I'll be canceling the order, but FWIW, there's one more data point.

Thanks to all on this thread for moral support and guidance, and I'm enrolling in Order Status Compulsive Checking therapy in the morning.

Mine went from back ordered to 0, and now it's back ordered again.
 
I just wanted to say farewall to all in this thread. I gave up on AT&T today and took a chance at my local Apple store. I showed up at 10am and sure enough, they got a healthy shipment of black iPhones in today. No white, only black in 16 and 8gb versions. I was 15 in line and snagged me a black 16GB. I am now trying to decide if I should cancel my DF order or let it come and see if someone in my family wants it.

Hey, how much did you end up having to spend on the one in the Apple store? Did you get the discounted price on it, just like the one from DF or did you have to pay full price?
 
There IS hope...3 phones ordered on 7/15...all shipped 7/17

So Apple and ATT seem to be getting their sheet together. I ordered 3 16 gb phones on Tuesday the 15th and all have shipped, with tracking numbers, as of 7/17. Cool....

Ordered Sunday...

As of tonight, the phone just got OFF backorder but the freight still is... Arg.
 
I ordered my 16gig White on Monday 7/14 and it was shipped last nite!! :D:D im in the bronx btw.

edit: theirs at least 10 people ahead of me that still havent been shipped. i guess what they said about the white iphones shipping faster is true!:confused:
 
seems like a lot of iphones shipped yesterday...black 16GB included. I have absolutely no idea how they are deciding the order they ship in. From my store there were 71 DF orders on 7/11...about 10 of us right at the beginning of the list have not gotten ours...almost everyone else has with one or two skipped here and there. But that string at the beginning hasnt. It is beginning to feel like they forgot about us...congrats to all of you who at least have a tracking number...many of us are still wondering if we'll ever get ours...:confused:
 
What a good day today is... I know this may make some people mad but THERE IS HOPE for people that ordered after monday. I kid you not, I ordered mine monday july 14th and my 16gb white just shipped today, friday (or yesterday) and will be in today (friday) at 3pm.... hurray!
 
Finally shipped!

Well I was one of those 7/11 on line people that missed the cut and had to order from my local ATT Store. I was promised a phone in 5-7 business days.
Started checking online like all of us and was discovering people with orders later than mine were getting their phones. I called ATT and this is key, selected to take the customer survey after the call, spoke to a very nice lady who said she really cold do nothing. I took the survey and gave low marks. 30 minutes later a rep from ATT called. I explained my problems and she gave me her direct line and said she would try to help. Both ATT employees were very nice and did what they could.

After the calls, back to the online order status checking. Low and behold at 11 pm est last night my phone shows shipped and available today! Not 100 percent sure but I have a feeling the 2nd rep that called did help me.

Picking up my 16 gig Black 3G I phone around 3 pm est! Finally............

All that re in the same boat as I was try the customer survey option....

I'm so happy right now! Last night, around 2 AM, I got an email (Pushed to my iPhone, thanks Mobile Me!:)) while I was in a showing of The Dark Knight that my iPhone 3G had shipped!!! What's so incredible is that I ordered on MONDAY 7/14 AROUND 3:00 PM! :eek: So AT&T actually exceeded my expectations and shipped ahead of schedule. I ordered the white iPhone, which could be why it shipped so fast, but after checking my place in line with the online checker, it showed that I was 50 something in line. Just wanted to let everyone know that you might have happy ending in all this mess! I know its hard to be patient, but keep hope alive! Your phone is on the way!
 
Mine shipped today! White 16. My wife's ... not so much (Blk 16).

There are 12 order AFTER ours... one that was ordered on 7/16 shipped 7/18!!!!!

Nuts.

My phones still haven't shipped, but looking at the orders from my AT&T store last night the very first order has not shipped. Lots have. I think there are 30-40 in front of me still to ship.

I spoke with an Apple iphone support person yesterday who said the Apple stores were generally getting 2 shipments a week. I was transferred to that Apple person from an AT&T person that I called to try to get clarification on how the backorder status could keep flip-flopping.

I think the iphoneconvert site just did some screen scraping of the order status screen. I am planning on working up a quick ruby script when I get into the office to do the same sort of thing. I'll post a link when I have it ready.

Hey cc999 - I got the call to take the survey as well but was stubborn to take it until i got the phone. Do you have the number they gave you to call back?

I ordered my 16GB BLK on friday morning as well and still nothing.... :mad:
 
Wife and I ordered 16g Blacks on 7/11 around 9am and have been waiting all week. Finally shipped late last night.

You and me both brother. I was one of the first people in my store not to get a phone and I am still waiting one week later.

Logic?

I would just like to have someone from AT&T explain the logic for how they are doing DF? Looked at the inventory screen scrape from last night and AT&T appears to fill the first order of people who have ordered two and then move along to the next person. The system jumped the guy that only ordered one on the 12th and filled the 1st order of the guy who ordered two on the 13th.

The process is not a bunch of Monkeys with darts as that would be more random. This is more of a sick and evil logic that they are using in their inventory system.:mad:

I'm one who ordered two (or rather, my husband & I each ordered one but the family plan is in my name so both orders show as my name. We ordered 8 Gig phones on Friday at 6:00 PM. We were order numbers 67 & 70. Order 67 shipped on Tuesday. Order 70 is still backordered. I don't mind waiting another couple of days but what worries me is that as more & more people order, how will they decide what orders to fill?
 
ATT Store completly Lost!

So I have been following the tracking progress of my iphone and finally it comes in! Call the store to make sure its there and they say it is. Walk into the ATT store and the guy goes, "well did you get a call?" I say no but I called and checked the site and its in. So he goes in the back and finally comes out and after about an hour of trying to reach a guy to "get his codes" I have a wokring phone. While I was waiting a guy comes in who ordered a phone last friday comes in to check out if the phone is in yet gets told, "sir if you didnt get a call its not in." I tell the guy "i didnt get a call and look at tme." Then I told him how he can check.

Ohh yeah plus the guy didnt check my id or credit card used. He just asked my name and went back and got a little box. Since you can look up anyones order I'm scared of someone just walking in and saying "my phone is in this is my name" and some poor person getting shafted.

Moral of the story? Dont trust the ATT store people they are clueless. By the way the wait is way worth it!

I would think they would do what every other store or service would do.. Do the one's that came in first.. Almost like forst come forst service.. The orders that came in first should be the one's that get filled.. But what I don't understand is I ordered mine on Tues at 10am and people behind me already had there's shipped.. SO I think it's really the luck of the draw..
