I ordered a white 16GB on Monday at 1pm. This morning the AT&T order status page is showing that it shipped.
BTW- not gloating. Just showing how ridiculous the system is. I checked the order status page up until 1a today. It shipped yesterday, with no notification until this morning!
You must realize that due to the context of this thread there is going to be a lot of complaining and unhappy people. There's issues w/ the first come first serve process. It causes people to be frustrated.
Strongly suggest not following this thread if you're displeased reading complaints.
Most of you people are complaining who order on 7/11. You were told it would be 5-7 business days, so deal with that. Its only been 5 so far!
If your mad about people behind you getting theirs, maybe they ordered another model, or something. Point is, you were told how long it would be, how about giving ATT a little slack and honor what you were told. Who cares if they are doing it randomly, really. Wait the wait you were quoted, and then raise some hell, not before so.
I have waiting since monday, and ill wait till tues/wed of next week.
I dont mind the complaints
This thread is about more than just complaints, so thats mainly why im still here.
i was told 2-3 business days, and it's definitely been more than that now
I was just on the phone with att and they told me that in the next two days, friday 18th, and saturday the 19th, the att warehouse only expects to get a total of 11 16 gig black iphones. However, on sunday the 20th his computer told him the warehouse will receive 3,596 - 16gig blk iphones.
I realize alot of what att reps say is purely speculation, and take this information for whatever you want, to me it seems promising that i will have mine early next week.
Ordered Sunday...
As of tonight, the phone just got OFF backorder but the freight still is... Arg.
Ordered iphone 3G 16 in white tuesday at AT&T on Tuesday due to the fact that they were sold out. Didn't get my order confirmation email until yesterday where it told me once again that the phone was backordered, duh.. Then i checked this morning on the AT&T order status page and it said my phone had shipped!!!! BUT, AT&T didn't send me my shipping email until a few hours later, and when looking at the tracking number i found out that it actually shipped yesterday?![]()
Arg, and now they're both on backorder again.
Ok...we get your point regarding the 5-7 days but let us be honest. We expect this type of time window from our utility company. Even our cable company can give us a 2 hour window. These are two MAJOR global organizations that cannot effectively and efficiently manage their inventory. Ridiculous!
Now why don't we talk about all of the other stupid deployment issues? Why can't I pick up my phone at the Apple store and activate it at AT&T so I can get my corporate discount? Why did 99.9% of the staff at AT&T have no clue about anything around this launch? Why did I wait in line only to be told when I entered the store that they were out? Why did my store not know about DF until Sunday? Why when I call my store's number and go through the AT&T central IVR system did it drop me off for three days straight when I wanted to talk directly to my store (Oh..I stopped by the store and none of the phones were busy...wonder why)? How about an inventory system that tells you your iPhone is off backorder..no wait it is backordered again..no wait it is off backorder again?
The $1M question is why did Apple stick to the monopoly with AT&T as these guys cannot manage a box of squirrels let alone a deployment of any size? We should also not blame AT&T 100% as it appears that Apple has held most on the inventory for themselves. This whole process reminds me of the scene in Ghostbusters when Bill Murray is doing the test to "see the effects of negative reinforcement (electric shock for a wrong answer)" The subject says: "You want to know the effect? It is ticking me off".
Plenty of stuff to be ticked off with around this deployment and the DF process is just the last straw. I think the biggest thing is that they have us by the short hairs and why people are so ticked. Apparently the "perfect" Apple/AT&T customer is someone who has plenty of disposable income and likes to take !@#$![]()
i agree, but... This phone is an option, nothing more. Its not mandatory to have one (as much of us have come to believe, including me).
So to be so ticked about something that is purely optional, well...
I have better things to worry aboutlast straw or not.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread yet. I have talked to two people I know, both of whom had their companies order it from AT&T and they both have their phones in hand. One had his ordered this past Tuesday and got it YESTERDAY. It looks like corporate customers are being moved to the front of the line.

I would say that is incorrect. We're all getting the shaft. I think it's funny how people are so quick to blame AT&T. From what I've been reading, the problem is the result of two issues, both with Apple.
#1 - Iphone was release in 21 countries as opposed to last year, when it was just a US Release.
#2 - Apple did not anticiapte the demand.
To go along with this, of course as any good business would, Apple has the majority of phones being sent to their stores directly. I would think with a worldwide release on the same day, they would have better anticiapted the demand. Oh well. We'll get them eventually.
