AT&T - iPhone 3G on Backorder for 5-7 Days.

Made a large jump (compared to the weekend) up to 22 from 27, but assuming the black 16gb black is what most ahead of me ordered and is most backordered, I had a few ship out ahead of the bulk of people, so if that is my base, I am either 1,2,3 or 4 in line for the black 8 gb one. Had two ship out after 10 days ahead of me, and I am the last one that ordered on the 19th, so I am hoping it is my phone shipped by tomorrow!!!
We will see soon. I am hoping even for a late ship notice to show up tonight!!!

You use the stores zip, and you have to keep picking lower numbers than yours to determine the true start place of the line, and then you can see where you are on the list.
No not really, i've noticed some people in my queue must have ordered white iphones which those have been shipping the next day or 2 days after the orders are placed the black 16GB's are the longest wait, i ordered mine last monday 7/21/08 i just noticed i went to 0 on the backorder list hopefully AT&T will ship a ton out tonight as i'm #6 in line.
I hear you on the white units, but this is why companies test products before a launch. You need to have an understanding of demand prior to selling a product (and a worldwide launch in multiple countries certainly complicates this). Apple is a well-run company, and Jobs is a visionary, but his obsession with secrecy makes it impossible to test a product. This is annoying. It affects sales initially, and with the advent of the app store, it affects quality of the software. I'm all for surprising the market, but there needs to be a balance.
It kind of bugs me to see on the iphone availability link on apple.com, that all three apple stores in manhattan will have Black 3G 16s available tomorrow, but those of us who order 10 days ago are still waiting...

Been watching the que for the store I ordered mine from in Lexington KY. Seems to be taking about 10 calendars days. A few ship out the next day after order, so I assume those are white or some 8gb model. But right now, I don't see any unfilled orders older than about 10 days. Looks like the entire que is moving up at about the same pace of 10-15 a day.
Since I have a 1st Gen phone, I am not in that much of a hurry. I am having too much fun with the apps, and games in particular. 3G will be nice, but I can wait another week or two. Everyone hang in there. This is probably the peak slow period. A couple of weeks after launch. The initial pipeline has been sold out, and they are being filled based on production and allocation by store.

question - the person below me has #18 below them, but the two before that says shipped. then one is canceled and the next three are 17, 16, 15.
what would that put me as, 19?
i am going to college. i was trying to get an iphone because i need gps in the new city and i will be traveling alot for my major.
so i will be out of town and will have no way of getting the iphone

so i just checked att.com to see if my phone was backorderd or not. and it seems that the webmaster put a anti-bot code where you enter ur fields so then i looked at that website were you can find you position in the queue and it said "No Order XXXX found Or ATT server is slow...."for all of them... if any one can get http://www.herebethedragons.com to work please tell me....

Nope, it is down. ATT put a verifier to be sure that people aren't doing what that script did, and just compile info. Now, if you want to check, you can only check by seeing how your order is doing, or the ones ahead of you. Thankfully, I am fairly certain mine will ship over the next two days from how it looked when I checked earlier. But the days of getting quick checks seem to be over!!
Confirmed. They put a captcha on the page, so more screen scraping. It was fun while it lasted, though. I'd love to see stats on how much traffic was generated by The Scripts.
