They blocked the domain of the original script (at least it was the first one that I used), which prompted me to write my ruby script. I expected that they would block by browser signature. For some reason a captcha never occurred to me.
It really should have been in there from the start, though. Think about how much fuss there is over PII (personally identifiable information), and what you could get from running a series of lookups on that page -- name and a general geographical location. AOL got hammered a couple of years ago for making web search strings public for a research project (or some-such). Someone was able to piece together enough search queries to find a specific person - and they didn't have any names in the searches.
