My bank is now not showing the charge from AT&T and the money is back in. What does that usually mean?

I'm not really sure, but I read on this forum pages and pages back that maybe it means they put a temporary hold on the funds, kinda as a result of "charging" the card when you ordered. That temporary hold comes off until your order ships when they'll officially charge it or something. Same thing happened with my credit card too for whatever it's worth.
 
Really? The parrots that are the AT&T CSR's are still repeating the same tired line: 'You'll be able to track your order once it ships.' WRONG. I should be able to track the order and see either 'pending' or 'backordered,' but I still see nothing.

Next time I'm just going to pay the early upgrade fee and be done with it!

I can't get one in the store because my upgrade date is 11/25. Only a manager can authorize an early upgrade. The store says 11/1 is the soonest. 21 days from my order is 10/29. That's till sooner than 11/25, so I am stuck in limbo.

If I could just track it, I'd be OK-even if only to see the word 'pending.' Oh well...:(

BTW my CC also no longer shows the pre-authorization hold. I'm hoping that's a good sign, buy who knows...
 
Girlfriend and I ordered 10/7 in store. Have been backordered ever since. Went to AT&T this morning and spoke with manager, they had no White 16g in stock, but he ended up giving us one month free service, $90 and $84, they also are going to hold two for us as soon as they come into stock unless ours ship first. Still bummed I don't have my phone, but at least the people at the store did their best to make it right and I appreciate the awesome local AT&T customer service.

After having to get somewhat hostile, I finally talked the manager of the store that I preordered my phone at let me know he would let me reverse my preorder as long as its not already shipped blah! blah! He told me he would see what he could do and get me a phone, but all they have is 64gb left and those are too pricey, So Im still not gonna have a new iPhone too soon. I wish att could just understand the customers feelings and take care of them without them having to get mad! So with all of you I was offered a alternative to my "preorder" but I am NOT gonna drop almost 1k on new phones. I CAN WAIT... So I tell myself, When I finally get my phone me getting so angry will seem so silly, Children are dying, folks don't have jobs, I can wait for a stupid phone. So I think..

Will update when I get shipment info. (iphone 4s ordered 5pm 10/7) In backorder BS:mad::apple:

I told my store I was willing to spring for a 64GB, but I want white. I'm not sure if he realizes that my upgrade is not until 11/25, so I'm not sure he could have helped even if he had one.

Lucky you, I was given the you're crazy look and told that I must have heard them wrong when I said that I was told that I would have the phone this Friday if I preordered. They said AT&T tells every customer that it will take 14-21 days to get their iPhone. I told them I wasn't old that. And asked them if that's the case what's the point of preordering? I got a blank look after that. They said they wouldn't hold a phone for me even when I explained that I was without a phone, not even a home phone. I'm very irritated. I know it's just a phone but I expect to be treated better for signing a 2 year contract with them and paying $330 a week in advance.
 
Just got off the phone with a few inquiries (reminder: preordered white 16gb at 10 am EST over the phone with AT&T). Same stuff about not being able to cancel preorder, etc. As far as the bank stuff, as I suspected, the initial charge was a hold and then the actual charge will happen when it ships. I was given an estimated ship date of 21-28 days (from October 8) and so I can begin to expect it next week. And, honestly, at this point, I can wait.

You need to find a phone and call AT&T and talk to retention. Explain your situation strongly, but not over-the-top angry.

Also, you can email:CareFollowUp@att.com. They responded to me right away. They were willing to cancel, but as I said, my upgrade is not until 11/25, so I need to wait for this order.
 
back in town but every apple store and att is sold out of the 32gig i ordered, so no canceling, unless there's new shipments tomorrow. but i finally got a really nice csr (ok they were all nice just not very helpful) who said she was even still waiting on her iphone. she told me that mine was in a processing center and that backordered items would not show up being there, but she couldn't guarantee it would ship out tomorrow. she said mine was put on a 14-21 holding but that since i ordered it 10/7 i was really in a 14 day hold, the 21 day was just to save their ass if i was the 1/10 people who did have to wait longer than 14 days. she told me that i should have it by the latest this friday.

i'm hoping that between now and 9am it goes from backordered to processing, but if it doesn't i'm hoping someone gets more shipments tomorrow and i'll just go ahead and cancel it. but i can wait until friday at this point. it was nice to hear that she was in the same boat as all of us, and she did note that a lot of people have been yelling and screaming at her that she has the power to get one out to people. i know i'm frustrated with ATT, but it's really not their fault. theyre just the messengers. it's really a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. A fail on the corporate suits.

I don't believe anything the CSR's say over the phone. They make things up because they have absolutely no power to help you. All I know for sure is that AT&T dropped the ball when it came to releasing this phone. I'll never preorder again, might as well wait in line at the store.

i agree with this, but she was def domestic. she sounded really honest, but obviously i have no way of telling. she told me she was tired of her 3gs and antsy for the 4s.
 
Heres my story, i pre-ordered an iphone 4s the 7th by phone at 10 am confirmation email received in minutes but the terms and condition came late at 7pm and i inmediatly accepted them. They give me the order number but in any of their order status link my order show up. I call them like 15 times in all the week they never resolve me the problem but they tell me that my order show processing in their system. Well the 14 came and still cant check my status by the morning i called them again. When i called them a nice person attend me i give him all my information and he let me waiting. He told me that he called UPS and told me that my iphone will arrive today(14) at my home. I was very happy go to collage take a test and when i finish the test i called them again just to make sure my iphone will det home the same they. When i called the guy told me that my order got an unexpected cancelling. very angry i told him that i called like 3 hours ago and blah blah blah. Finally i just ask him if i could get the iphone 4s in a store if it was available. I wait in phone line like 45 minutes waiting that he fixes my phone plan so i could get the upgrade discount. I go to an att store talking with the CS guy and when i get to the store there was only one iphone 4s available and the CS guy finish fixing my account. So i get the iphone 4s in the store.
My tip for all of you that pre-ordered and know an att store that the iphone is available is that you call your credit card operator or bank and tell them to cancel the payment att will automaticaly cancel your order just call 611 and tell them to fix your phone line to be able to receive the upgrade discount. Atleast this worked for me. Hope that this work for all of you!

i'm in the same boat. ordered on the 7th, around 2:45 cdt. my wife's came on friday (her email was 2:39) but mine is still "backordered". my email said 2:46. anyway, tomorrow i'm going to the at&t store at lunch and throwing the hammer down. i'm way pissed and feel it's the same as making a dinner reservation for 7 and not being seated until 8:30. what's the point? i'll let everyone know what happens.

I did get mine yesterday morning and it's up and running. However, I wanted to take care of getting AppleCare+, so I went in to the Apple Store later in the afternoon but they turned me away. Seems Apple will not sell you AC+ if you preordered from the carriers, so I was instructed to go to the AT&T Store in the same mall where I waited in line. Finally after a 1/2 hour of waiting in line and assurance from the manager that they could add it, they ran into a problem. Another 1/2 hour or so, with the manager calling every other store managers (even some out of state) they figured out the problem. Apple's records were not yet up to date and my phone was not recognized in the system. UGH!

The manager took my info, said he would personally get AC+ registered on my phone and call me to come in to pay so they wouldn't waste anymore of my time (which was nice). Still waiting to hear from him.
 
If your order says backordered trying calling FedEx they can do a search of your address. I called FedEx and got the representive to do a search of my address. And it looks like it was shipped Friday and it should arrive this Tuesday. The package is 3 pounds so I'm positive it the two iPhones I preordered.
 
Anyone think its realistic that tomorrow (Monday) there will be another push of shipments for the backorders? Something about a new week beginning makes me hopeful.

Still in progress/Pending shipment. Called the order status people a few times and they keep saying - you'll receive an email with tracking when it ships. But when will it ship? They have no clue.

Who do you have to call to get some customer service?! I'll gladly take a month of free service as an apology.

What was the point of ordering it at 5AM Friday (after 2 hours of refreshing) if your friends who ordered it after you got theirs on time?! I should have known better then to use the AT&T website- my twitter friends told me to do it.

Yeah that's how I feel too... like I am hopeful I'll wake up to see "back ordered" has been replaced by "shipped" or "processing" or whatever it'll change to.

Yep. Its pure wishful thinking. I was hanging with some friends today and they all had their 4s in hand. I refused to look at them lol. Not till its mine. Mine is on backorder (32gb white) even though I ordered it on the 7th. Also I cant view the order online? Annoying.
 
Upadate: delivered

Final update on my iPhone 4S.

  • Ordered black iPhone 4S 64GB on Friday, October 7 at about 10:30 a.m. at my local AT&T store.
  • Received an email later that day saying that I should expect shipment in 14-21 days. Phone showed as backordered on the AT&T order status page.
  • Monday, October 10 the phone switched to 0 backordered.
  • Wednesday, October 12 I received an email from AT&T with my shipping notification and FedEx tracking number.
  • Thursday, October 13 the order showed tracking information on the FedEx website.
  • Friday, October 14 at 10:48 a.m. my iPhone 4S was delivered.
  • Friday, October 14 around 1:00 p.m. I was able to get to my office and activate my new phone. It activated with no issues at all.

A big thanks to my local AT&T store for helping me and being so efficient. Thanks to AT&T for the activation process working so smoothly with the crazy number of activations they were processing that day. Thanks to Apple for having enough phones manufactured so that I got one.

I have called at&t and they told told me it's ordered but it's "parked"? They say I I can't view the status till it ships. It's BS but I was so mad I just didn't want to fight.
 
I did the same thing except Apple told me to call Apple Care & they can sell me Apple Care + directly. But like you, when I called & provided my serial number Apple claimed that AT&T systems didn't yet update their records. They told me to try again on Monday or Tuesday.
