I ended up just going to an AT&T store.
There's a hyperlink on your order confirmation email from ATT - you can see it under the bullet "Activate your device." (Why send this link on your order confirmation and not refer you back to it on the packing slip? A bit of an obvious misstep on AT&T's part.) After you activate, it takes a while until the activation hits your phone (about 45m for me; the website warns it can take 2h). Good luck!
You can also just call 611 from your currently active phone. It will recognize your phone number, send you through an automated prompt to accept some terms, then tell you to power the iPhone off and back on and it'll be activated.

Anyone else not able to activate their phone? I've never had a problem before with ATT....I've tried plugging it into itunes and then went to the website and entered the #s and it said "those numbers weren't found" .... im starting to lose my patience

For whatever reason, https://www.att.com/activate didn't work for me...so I called 611 and it was a breeze! "Signing" the agreement and activating the new phone was done under 2 minutes. 611 is the way to go!
That's weird because 611 should work whether or not the phone is activated because the phone should be able to make emergency calls.
Plane looks to be delayed. It took off at 10:30 HST and won't get here until 6:30....
I try calling it and the screen flashes black and goes right back to the keypad..what is going on lol
You can't do 611 from the new phone, you have to use the old phone.

I feel so dumb...thank you. Called from my current iphone, went through the setup prompts, and said I have to turn my new one off for about 5 minutes and it should be good.
In the past i've always had luck just connecting through itunes, it just threw me for a loop. Thx

My tracking shows that too, shipped this morning from Ft. Worth. Sucks because it could easily be here tomorrow as I'm only about 8 hours away near New Orleans.

It's funny I went to the mall to get Ghost Armor for the screen and noticed a sales person in BestBuy Mobile holding a sign indicating that they had the iPhone 6S (not the Plus) IN STOCK (!) at 6PM pacific.
But yet, there was a line in front of the Apple store right next store.
Go figure!
