I'm sure it's been stated over and over by now, but i truly believe this was their way of sticking it to those customers who are legacy "subsidized" phone customers. Maybe folks who are the "Next" program can comment or have before, but i think this is a clear effort to get people to purchase phones via Next or Apple's program, albeit my opinion may be completely uninformed.
I had att next and mine was middle of october..

one would think if the number of pre-orders were overwhelming, you would start packing and shipping as soon as possible, and then have all the boxes picked up at once early am on the 24th.

I am on the next program and the only reason I ordered from AT&T was because I was told by them that I had to order through them. I had to pay around $40 to be able to do the next program this month so that's why I wasn't sure if I could do that through apple. Actually the first time I asked I was told I had to order the phone in store and the second time I asked they said I could order it online through them.

Especially since there was an extra week this year. This year it was 2 weeks from preorder to launch day. Years past it has been only 1 week.

So I thought this year since there were 2 weeks that they would produce more iPhones and all would get the 6S+ on launch day.

Guess we will see.

The thing is see that option for all stores, in all models around me. I don't believe that's accurate.
I am very hesitant too, I mean regardless I get it early or still wait till mid october like everyone else lol.

After calling in this morning though, they told me they are having a party thing for the buyers and store opens at 8 am and that I will have it on hold and be getting an iPhone 6s+ on friday..I am going to call back tonight to speak to another customer rep to see if they tell me the same exact thing..

Depending on where i check my order status, one say "in progress" (from my confirmation email) and from the AT&T order status look up by phone number, it says "preparing to ship" I honestly believe we will receive our devices a lot sooner than they are estimating. I've mentioned this before in this thread (so all you h8rs can bypass this before becoming salty with me about repeating myself) I ordered my 6+ last year via AT&T and ordered an hour after they went live for preorders due to the heavy website traffic. This year,l ordered mine 10 minutes before the preorders were suppoesed to go live (& i'm still getting a 10/16 ship datE). My estimated delivery date was very very similar to what we're all seeing now. About 1 day before the phone was launched i received notice that my phone had shipped. I received my phone the day after launch. At that time, it was estimated that I would receive it in october, as we are all seeing now. But i have high hopes that we should have our devices long before their projected shipment dates!

I just did what you stated and mines is the same way. If I am signed in or check from my e-mail is says "in progress" and if i log out and check by number it says "preparing to ship", strange but lets hope the 2nd one is the correct one!! :)

To think of it I got nothing in return (couldn't push up my ship date, was told "he couldn't" when I asked for a bill credit for the inconvenience) I ultimately cancelled my pre order in an AT&T line when I knew I was getting a phone there.
Honestly, I'd be pissed that I didn't get anything - credit. I think you were sorta screwed over.

I'm on next and had November for 6s+ rose gold. Canceled and jumped over to Best Buy this morning and I've got confirmation for store pick up on Friday. It's definetly something with Att, maybe not next vs 2 year, but something.

Theres going to be a lot of disappointments from those going to best buy.
each store doesn't know their exact allotment until the day before when they get the phones in.
and I believe they used to call the customers on Thursday to confirm their pre-order could be picked up.

Honestly I'd put the blame on AT&T more than Apple. AT&T is the one forcing you to purchase from them to get the discounted pricing. If they had just let you order through Apple then you'd get the device on time without the worrying. I think in past years Apple has generally done preorders more reliably than AT&T, and I always recommended people order from Apple when that option is available.
I've always ordered from Apple in the past and always received my phone on launch day every time, so yes I agree the issue is most likely with AT&T. Even if they simply didn't receive any 6S+ stock from Apple in time to deliver on 9/25, the whole idea of "pre-order" has lost all meaning. While we don't know the agreements between Apple and AT&T on supply it appears that, assuming the shipping delay proves accurate, there's a lack of concern on someone's part as to whether or not they can deliver. It's only a phone and it won't kill us to wait, but it's still frustrating for those of us who stayed up all night to be the first to order. They're getting our money that's all they care about.

It's us two year contracts that are forced to go to AT&T. If I were on NEXT I would stay far away from AT&T and be ordering straight from Apple.

I have been watching this thread for a few days as I pre-ordered my phone through AT&T, cause the Apple Store app was having trouble retrieving my Next contract. Couple of observations.

1) Someone should name this thread AT&T iPhone 6s+ Pre-order thread
2) AT&T only sells phones, they do not make them, so...they can only sell the phones that Apple allocates to them
3) The conversation earlier about someone calling the president of AT&T's office is ludicrous
4) The iPhone 6s+ had inventory issues due to backlight display issues - this is why you are not getting your phone on launch day, AT&T is not trying to screw you.

Att front end system vs back end system? Escalation team mentioned 3 separate systems that can have different dates

For everyone waiting on a 6S plus, I called AT&T and asked them about the "preparing to ship" and "processing". My end said preparing to ship and she said on her end it still said "processing". Hope my end is true!

Well yes it is no guarantee but normally when doing a pre order right when the site goes live should indicate you get the product on launch day or at least soon after. It's just a bit annoying but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. The only sleep I lost was the night of the pre order .

Preorder your phone today with AT&T and be guaranteed a spot sometime in the first two months after launch! Imagine Impossible.

While I agree that a preorder guarantees nothing, usually you get what you are preordering on the release day, especially if your order is logged 11 minutes after orders open up. Thats pretty much the only reason I set an alarm to wake up at 2am. I sure didn't do it so I could get my phone in mid October. AT&T is just special. Hoping this is all just a lack of AT&T updating their info and we all get ship notices tomorrow. That would be nice.

I would love to agree with that given how dishonest AT&T is, however while my 6S+ shows to be shipping mid-late Oct, my wife's 6S, as well as most other 6S orders are still showing shipping on 9/24, both subsidized.

Retweet.

one would think if the number of pre-orders were overwhelming, you would start packing and shipping as soon as possible, and then have all the boxes picked up at once early am on the 24th.

It may be purely a logistical issue for AT&T and one that they have no financial incentive to improve. I mentioned earlier here somewhere that in looking up my current phone's manufacture date, I found that it was made the week leading up to the last year's pre-order, but it didn't get delivered to me until 9/26 (and I got it a week ahead of scheduled delivery so there is still some hope for many of you here). So it may very well have sat on a pallet in a warehouse for almost 2 weeks until employees worked their way through the million or so other phones ahead of mine, which are packed and labeled by hand.

Part of our enjoyment when ordering products from Apple is their commitment to exceptional customer service. It's why we purchase time and time again. And they set the expectation that if they say it will be delivered on a certain date, they deliver and they do whatever is necessary to make that happen. Their on-time supply chain game is without compare.

AT&T? The people that make those kinds of decisions don't seem nearly as invested in their customer base. I'm sure there are many, many, many employees at AT&T that do their best to make it a better experience for us, but they have limited resources to really go the extra mile like Apple does. At Apple, if there is a yield issue on a part they fire up the back-up suppliers. At AT&T if there is a backlog of phones waiting to get packed/shipped, there is no way they are going to hire on a battalion of employees to clear it just for this two weeks of crazy.

Can you people just knock it off already? There is no issue. AT&T does this with every phone. It'll ship out Thursday. The end.

Valid point. My tin foil conspiracy theory has just been debunked!

Found the AT&T employee...

I'm kidding of course. Waiting for our phones to arrive is part of the fun (for most of us). You're right, though. We can't really complain about estimated ship dates until those dates come and go, then the real complaining can begin! Hopefully we'll all have our phones by then.
