Surely an order placed today won’t arrive before one placed a week ago?
Actually it can vary since there is not a First In First Out (FIFO) system but they try to fulfill earlier orders first. AT&T orders are not direct fill from the FoxConn OEM but bulk orders that are broken down at the Major distribution points.

The bulk of the Apple orders are individually filled from the FoxConn OEM but shipped in bulk to the USA, and are broken down at the UPS WorldPort in KY.

I'm curious being the last four digits of the IMEI are showing does that mean there's a device ready to ship? I'm not trying to activate this device but I'm trying to activate the other device they sent me A26 and this is popping up?

Yes that is the information that would have been scanned from a physical iPhone box before it ships.

So even though my order for the iPhone won't ship till the end of October that means they should have an iPhone in hand and they're ready to ship?

Your iPhone 17 Pro Max Cosmic Orange is in a box, and the box has been scanned, and is ready to ship. It is not something that is assigned to an un-built device that will not have a box to scan until late October.

By scanning the box, the system loads all the activation information into the backend system so it is ready to activate as soon as you get your delivery.

So on my way to the ATT store I got the strange email below. Claimed they were holding orders because they couldn’t charge my card for two prepaid SIM cards, which makes no sense.

Did you order any Prepaid eSIMs, and are you on an AT&T Prepaid plan? It really looks Fake, and worse trying to get you to enter information on a Fake site.

No I have a regular ATT account with 10 lines - not prepaid - this was after two of my three phones were delayed. Email was def from ATT, just some sort of f’up on launch day.

How did u get to this screen?

Is ready to ship before preparing to ship or after new to Att? I ordered watched yesterday that now says preparing to ship and my iPhone still says ready to ship.

What status was it in mines still say ready to ship
It now says "Shipped" - even though UPS hasn't picked it up, yet. It changes to "Shipped" when the shipping label is created and the tracking number is assigned. Mine changed from "Preparing to Ship" to "Shipped" last night.

Since it is UPS Next Day, I'm expecting it to be picked up today and delivered tomorrow.

Order: Preparing to ship is before Ready to ship.

Preparing to Ship - Activities like order picking, packing, and labeling are in progress. Then it will move to Ready to Ship. Ready to ship - just means everything is done. The package is waiting for the shipping carrier (FedEx or UPS) to collect it.

My 256GB deep blue Pro just shipped (original delivery dates September 30 - October 14)

Two 256GB silver Pro Max are preparing to ship (original delivery dates October 28 - November 11)

Just to show you how wildly inaccurate those estimates are. These were ordered last Monday (Sept 15).
