My BB contract runs out on 10/24/10. I called "*639#", and att sent a text saying that I couldn't get a full discount until 10/24, however a could get a discounted iPhone at a higher price with a 2yr commitment a an $18 upgrade fee.

So I'm trying to figure out what that means. Anyone got a clue?

Interesting..

Got my 3GS day one and i just checked and im eligible.

I got the same text and I've had my 3g since February of 2008. Hmmm.... my bill is typically under $100 but I'm on a corporate discount for my company so would be over otherwise. I've also been an AT&T customer for five years so.. That may have something to do with it.

Here's my plan. If I don't become eligible for the Upgrade price I am ditching ATT. There is no reason to stay on their ****y network and Overpay $40. I would much rather switch to Sprint and save $40 and also get more features. Heck, I'll even switch to Verizon...

Then switch. Nobody cares.

When will these buffoons learn?

feb 11 for me :( upgraded from 3g to 3gs on 3gs release date. wife is on 3g still and she shows as eligible. i have a third non iphone line eligible too. perhaps i can do something crafty and switch numbers around to get myself a new phone as the third line is my mom and she doesn't need an iphone.

I'm on a family plan and pay about 160 a month. Two iPhone 3GS and two regular phones. Joined AT&T and whatnot last July. I'm not eligible for an upgrade until 3/1/2011. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Alright, here's my theory.

Just a guess....

If you bought an iPhone 3G two years ago using your full upgrade, then bought a 3GS last year for the full price ($399 or $499), your next upgrade date was in 2010, so it was bumped up to the end of June. Congrat's, you can gat an iPhone 4 for $199 or $299.

If you bought an iPhone 3GS last year with your FULL upgrade ($199 or $299) then your contract won't be up until next year, so if you want an iPhone 4 then you will need to pay the full price.

I bought my 3GS last year around the end of June with a full upgrade. I did the *639# thing on my phone and my upgrade is on June 15, 2011 so it wasn't bumped up to this month. (If your upgrade is in 2011 it doesn't get bumped up) I guess that if I want an iPhone 4, I'll have to pay $399 for it. Right?

It's really confusing.

I bought BOTH the 3G on launch day and pre-ordered the 3GS and received 'new customer' pricing on both. Now I am not eligible for upgrade pricing until Feb 2011 and have not been "bumped up."

What was the 6 - month bump up Jobs mentioned?

I don't understand why people treat these threads as their AT&T support line. Just call AT&T, don't ask here.

Nope.

I've paid the subsidized price on day 1 three years in a row. I'm eligible. My wife isn't eligible until 2/27/2011 (18 months). My mother-in-law (I bought her a 16GB 3GS last week) isn't eligible until 2/4/2012 (20 months?).

Early upgrades, in part, have a lot to do with what you spend a month. I spend over $100 a month on my iPhone line ($79.99 family plan +$30 data) plus have a network connect 3G card at $60 a month. Losing me as a customer would be bad business, and this locks me in for another full year. Although quite frankly, an ETF isn't going to stop me from moving my business if I decide to do so.

OTOH, my wife's phone is $40 and so is my MIL's. And I'll likely knock both of them down to the $15 data plan as soon as I can get through on the AT&T website.

Went ahead to the AT&T store and paid the $169 for the 3GS, she saif the $99 had to be a glitch, oh well, Im satisfied for the next few years!

Wait. You just bought a 3GS? You really couldn't wait a few weeks to save $70? Or better yet spend an extra $30 and get the brand new iPhone?

Really?

In retrospect, I shouldn't have upgraded my mother-in-law's phone last week, but she went and got some crappy Samsung that wouldn't connect to my microcell so I took it back and got her a 3GS. I know the iPhone 3GS models do connect, and I also knew that I'd have a bunch of paraphernalia that come June 24, I wouldn't need anymore and she could have (cases, including a Mophie Air battery cases). It's more phone than she'll ever need.

Does anyone know how to find out what the early termination fee is after one year? I'll just call AT&T later to find out if nobody knows.

Not about to read the whole thread, probably already brought up, but I wouldn't be surprised if this early upgrade option is to upgrade to the 3GS only (to clear out stock). Seeing as how if you go to your account to check upgrae options, guess what....3GS selection only.

SUCKER! You fell for that? They just want to clear inventory. Cancel or deny delivery! You'll be sorry if you didn't

Probably cause it's JBroken

I think musicman is on to something here!

I got the iPhone 3G in 2008 using my full upgrade. But last year, when I got my iPhone 3GS, I wasn't eligible for a full upgrade so I paid the "courtesy upgrade" price for the 3GS. That wasn't a full upgrade so, according to AT&T, I haven't used my full upgrade capability since 2008.

Thus... I would now be eligible for a full upgrade. And that's what my account is showing at AT&T's site.

But I don't plan to use it. Even without an announcement today, I still believe the iPhone and iPad are coming to Verizon this year. AT&T is just making too many changes that seem like preparation for competition. So, my plan is to wait and see.

About a week ago, I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until 11/10, but I could get a partial discount. Now, it says I am eligible for a full upgrade. I was thinking I would have to pay more for iPhone 4, so this is a nice surprise

I bought my 3GS as a new customer at the end of June 2009.

lots of mis-information being reported around this and as usual it is making alot of people mad. I got the 3gs the day it was released.....att is saying no upgrade til feb 2011 unless I am willing to pay higher unspecified price and 18.00 fee.

still need to check my wifes 3g....I purchased it as a refurb about 2 months earlier.

pretty lame

What misinformation? It clearly states that if your contract is up anytime in 2010 and you have an iPhone then you are eligible to upgrade at the subsidized price on launch day for the iPhone 4.
