i'm predicting steve announces a big FU to at$t tomorrow for all their rate plan BS in the last week. one can only hope.

I bet tins is AT&T's last play before they loose exclusivity. Get all of you 3GS adopters in for another 2 years.

I think that's a reasonable supposition especially in light of the recently increased early termination fee. ATT wants to secure its ranks against the possible incursion of iPhone on Verizon.

No luck for me, upgraded to the 3GS on the first day, but I only have the 450 minute plan, plus data.

I should be eligilble because I didn't sign a new contract when upgrading to the 3GS. I paid the unsubsidized price. But when I checked it said:

As a valued AT&T customer, you may be eligible for a standard upgrade on this line, with reduced equipment pricing when signing a 2-year commitment. Click 'Upgrade Eligibility' to view your upgrade options.

Which sounds much less certain than what MR posted in the article.

Does anyone know if Canada will be offering a subsidized upgrade price? I signed a 3 year contract with Fido when the 3gs came out but I really hope I can get the iPhone 4 for cheaper than full price

For those who get an upgrade at one year because they got the 3GS. How do you feel about extending your contract three years for your new phone? And qualms?

This is weird. A few months ago ATT told me I would not be eligible for an upgrade at standard upgrade pricing till November. A few minutes ago I checked my account and got a message telling me to call ATT and speak to a rep about my upgrade eligibility.

error

When I check my eligibility it has an error for both lines:

We're sorry, but we are experiencing a temporary system error that prevents us from retrieving your account information. Please wait a few moments and try again. If this issue persists please contact Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500.

One of my lines has been eligible since May. The other would be eligible in September and I'm hoping it gets bumped up.

Anyone else getting this error?

I don't feel any way about it, because that's not what will happen.

I signed a two-year contract in 2008 for the fully subsidized 3G, got a half discount for the 3GS, resetting my two-year contract to begin again on June 2009, and now I'll be getting a fully subsidized phone and resetting my contract again.

I'll sign yet another two-year contract, which supersedes last year's contract. No biggie. I did the same thing every 16 months for 11 years when I was with Verizon.

I believe the contract resets to two years actually, it doesn't add an additional two years to your remaining time.

I got mine mid July last year and am eligible for the new one

Your contract is reset to two years from the date you upgrade.. you don't add two years to the previous contract.

Does anyone think that there's any advantage to waiting until iPhone OS 4.0 is released before buying the iPhone HD (or whatever it's called) if availability of iPhone OS 4.0 is not immediate? Or is the upgrade process probably pretty seamless?

4.0 should be preloaded right out of the gate with the new iPhone. I wouldn't worry.
