You cannot have unlimited on Next. I currently have unlimited and need to add two lines. Need to determine if I should finally give it up.

Just check your data usage. I have been doing prepaid, and it is the best decision I have made. $40 in my pocket every month.

I have the unlimited data as well. Usually I upgrade through apple.com. This year, I guess I'll have to do it through the at&t website as well.

Also looking into selling my 5S to NextWorth, as they hold prices for 1 month, which wuld give some leeway in keeping your phone while you wait for the new one.

Expect the AT&T site to be really really bad on launch day though.

The apple store app has been a godsend these last few years. I know the pain you will experience =/

Hi guys so with the announcement coming next week I am going to preorder the 6s plus to replace my 6 plus, I know I will have to trade it in or pay off the remaining payments to own the phone. I have decided that I am just going to trade it in and do it that way, I know I have one payment of the 12 I will have to pay and trade my phone in to be eligible. I was just wondering though can I preorder through apple if I am doing that or do I have to preorder through AT&T. Last year I tried to preorder through AT&T but it didn't work out very well and ended up preordering through apple instead.

AT&T website is absolutely horrible, good luck to everyone going that route...tried that last year and failed big time so this year I will be going outright through the app store app. Been hearing good success rates going that route.

What is the "app store app"? Are you referring to Apple's (app) online store or does AT&T have an app store?

I work at AT&T. You CAN utilize NEXT on your current UDP. If you only use that second line for the ability to have an upgrade every year, drop it. Jump onto NEXT 12 with your UDP. You'll be free to upgrade every year as you wish.

I did a trial Next upgrade on a 6 Plus. It seems like as long as you've made 12 months worth of installment payments on the Next 12 plan, you're good to go. I'm guessing they'll just have you ship back your old iPhone or bring it to an Apple/AT&T store once you've received the replacement.

My phone has gotten dinged up this time (dropped it on a tile floor and didn't damage the screen, but there's a definite ding on the top), so I'll be turning it back in and upgrading through Next that way. I just made the last payment that renders me eligible for upgrade.

Otherwise, if it were pristine (as all of my other phones have been), I'd pay it off, sell it, and get a new phone through Next.

^^^^This. You have a few options but you can either 1. Go to ATT on launch day and do a trade in and upgrade at the same time OR 2. Online the night of the pre order you go ahead and pre order the phone and select that you are doing a trade in and when the new phone gets to your door you will have 7 days to ship the old phone back to ATT.

Do we have to order through AT&T or can we order through Apple? I seem to recall Apple can deal with Next but I'm not sure.

I hear ya w/ the bad experiences. We just had a bad one on Craigslist, so giving eBay another go around. If this falls through, it's Gazelle or trading in w/ the carrier. Sometimes it's just not worth it

I've always had a good experience with Gazelle. The trade in values seem to be pretty much in line with similar companies and it definitely tops Apple's trade in value.

Does anyone know if I can make an early payment to make myself eligible? My 12th payment is still "Pending." According to the Apple Store app, I won't be eligible until 9/19. It's probably because the 12th payment hasn't cleared.

If I upgrade through the AT&T web site, I can make this 12th payment during checkout. However, because their web site couldn't handle the demand last year, I would rather not go through this option.

You can actually do it now. Just go to your AT&T account and you can make the 12th installment payment.

Maybe I'm not seeing it. When I choose to Make a Payment, there isn't an option to make an installment payment. Only option is to pay off remaining installments.

I've noticed the same thing. There's no option to make that 12th payment if you order through Apple, you would have to pay full price for the phone. I would love to just make that last payment for $37.50, but my current billing cycle runs through the 13th, which is two days after the date that preorders will probably start.

I'm in the same boat with NEXT. I have 2 payments left since I got the last iPhone late and when I called in to ATT they wouldn't allow me to pay to upgrade. I made an additional payment to cover my phones but it's still unclear as to how this is going to work out. I'm getting really tired of doing this through ATT and am considering switching providers just to avoid the BS.

You can literally go to the ATT store and do it all there. I went last week and paid off the rest of my iPhone 6 plus which was on the ATT next 12 and it hit my account the moment they did it. I was not able to do it on the phone and over the phone they said if i paid it online that they were not going to count it towards my account until my next billing cycle. So just go into the store and all your problems will be fixed. You can even do it on day one like I did last year. I paid off my 5s and got the 6 Plus the same day.

I didn't check Make A Payment. It shows up for me when I go to View Upgrade Options for a specific line:

This is what I did a few days ago, too -- went to the AT&T store and paid off my iPhone in full, so now I own my iPhone 6 Plus and this gives me more options when it comes to buying the iPhone 6s Plus. I just had the feeling that things were going to get pretty snarled up at AT&T on Launch Day and rather than trying to deal with that, I'd rather just be able to buy the iPhone at Apple and start up a new NEXT plan there.....

The one option that doesn't give you is trading the phone back to AT&T though, which was kind of the point of NEXT in the first place.

Yes, but you can only do that on AT&T's site. Many people would rather avoid AT&T on preorder night and order through Apple and it doesn't look like that's possible without paying off the phone entirely first.
Apple website directs you to AT&T website in order to do Pay to Upgrade for Next. You can do it now to get that out of the way so when pre-order time comes, you're already Next upgrade eligible.

I just got to that screen by logging in to My Account > Devices > View Upgrade Options. You don't have to actually upgrade your device right now.
