Has anybody here traded in their phone through the mail for the Next plan? How did it go? Is it a simple process or a frustrating one? I work the Friday-Sunday of the weekend the 6s is supposed to come out so I want to preorder it but I don't know if it's worth it if I have to mail my current phone in.

Don't mail it in, just take it to AT&T Corporate store turn it in there. Last year there were some horror stories on here about AT&T not receiving returned phones in properly. so person was not receiving credit. I took my 5s to get $300 credit for turning in old phone after I got 6 Plus. Has to be Corporate store not franchise AT&T outlet. Many of the problems and lies people receive are from these franchise outlet stores.

It has always been hilarious to me that people actually thought they were getting a $600 - $1000 phone for $199 or $299. The brainwashing....err advertising/marketing was so good, even after you explained it to they the would still argue the phone cost $199.
There are no amount of thumbs up I could give this that would convey my excitement that you understand this lol

Is anybody here going to use the share upgrade option?

Using another line that's eligible for next , transfer the upgrade

Not sure where this should have been posted.

We have a shared data plan with AT&T and I hope to get the new phone using their Next plan. I will be using my wife's upgrade eligibility. Previously we did the "new phone with 2 year plan". It's been a long while. Does anyone know if (in the US) I can go to the Apple Store when they're available and the folks there will be able to handle the situation (i.e. the Next "purchase plan" setup)? Or must I deal with the AT&T store?

Thanks for any information/insights.

You can do NEXT through the Apple Store.

Well. I finally did it. I begrudgingly gave up my unlimited plan on AT&T that I've had since the introduction of the iPhone. However, I needed to add two lines and every option from having the unlimited on it's own line to having the new lines on a separate account or moving to T-Mobile just didn't make financial sense.

I was about to cancel service and switch everyone to T-Mobile, but after a few calls to retention, I was able to get 20GB for $76 or 30 GB for $98.80 after FAN discount. I went for the 30GB. I then have my existing 6 and 6 Plus off contract and will purchase two additional 6s models for $25/month per line. Overall my bill increases about $40, but I have two additional lines and the 30GB meets our data needs where I don't have to worry. Sorry to see unlimited to, but it was time when kids needed to be added to the account.

If they order online and have a Next trade in, the trade in has to be completed through the mail. There's no way for reps in the store to take the trade in for a next upgrade initiated online.

Does anyone know the process for turning in the old phone? If I preorder on the Apple Store app, Apple ships me the new iPhone... do they also send me a box for the old phone? Does AT&T automatically send it to me? Am I responsible to find a box and pay for shipping?

If there are horror stories about AT&T not receiving trade-ins, I wonder if adding insurance + signature confirmation to the shipping would help.

preordering 2 phones when available on the ATT site. Would it be better to do so as two separate orders on two separate credits cards or is it safe to use one card for both phones?

You could but Apple and carrier websites tend to be screwy once iPhone pre-orders start. You might want to have another person pre-ordering at the same time for one of the phones if you want to get them both at or close to release.

If you're trading in a next phone with an order online, they'll send a shipping label with your order to send your old phone back. You can use the box your phone came in. There will be instructions as well.

You will receive a return label in the box that your new phone ships in. Slap it on the box and drop it off at post office. You must ship it though, you can't turn it into a store

You cannot have unlimited on Next. I currently have unlimited and need to add two lines. Need to determine if I should finally give it up.

Incorrect. U can do next on unlimited data.

But u have to "qualify for an upgrade first". Which makes it idiotic to do "next" when u qualify for a full subsidy upgrade. It simply makes more sense to pay $199/299/399 plus $45 upgrade price than to do full price installment with at&t next if u qualify for upgrade

I really despise AT&T. I went to the store just now to pay off next month's installment of $37.50 for my phone and the same for my wife's phone. They wouldn't let me do it. I was told if I couldn't pay the $37.50 without turning in my phone and my wife's phone today. When I look online where it says pay to upgrade I see the price of $37.50 but no option to just pay that. Any help with this would be great. Thanks.

Why don't you just pay it off when you process your upgrade (Pre-order or otherwise)? It'll be no different than doing it now....

Just choose a phone as if you were going to upgrade today. As you go through the purchase process, you'll be charged the $37.50 as a separate transaction. Then just stop and don't complete the purchase of the new phone. You'll now be eligible for a new NEXT upgrade you can use later when the new phones go on sale.

That would require pre-ordering on AT&T's website on pre-order night, which is going to be completely slammed. Getting the upgrade eligibility now allows one the option to order it through Apple.

That's why I decided to just go ahead and pay off my iPhone in full, so that this then gives me more options in where I purchase my iPhone 6S Plus. This way, I own my phone now free and clear, no need to give it back to AT&T if I choose to instead trade it in at the Apple store or to sell it to someone.

I'm trying to do that right now, and you're right I don't wanna preorder on AT&T, I'd rather buy it on Apple. So you went through the whole process even though it says you must trade in your phone within 14 days? The screen below makes me worried that they will make me send in my phone before the 18th.

You would only have to trade it in if you actually went ahead and completed the purchase of another phone. You're fine if you just stop after you pay the NEXT installment.

It worked. You are awesome. Thanks for the advice. AT&T employees had no idea how to make this happen.

Posted this on a separate thread and didn't receive a response. Thought I would try it here:

I ported two lines to AT&T for the DirecTV credit per line. I signed up for the next plan on both lines since it was required for the credit. 10 days later I paid off next plans to prepare for the upcoming iPhone preorder. During the 10 days I also combined my accounts into a unified billing account (wireless and directv service). Fast forward to today, when I check my upgrade eligibility on AT&T's website it shows that I am currently eligible for an upgrade on both lines. When I check the Apple website it shows that I am not eligible for an upgrade and directs me to contact AT&T. I would prefer (and I always have) to pre-order my iPhones from Apple. I have contacted multiple people at AT&T and received several responses as to why Apple's website isn't showing my account as upgrade eligible. At this point I don't know what to do.

I've been told by AT&T that things are not working right because:
1. I need to contact Apple -it's their fault
2. You can only do the next plan once per line, every 30 days.
3. You're account is too new...wait until your next billing cycle.
4. You have to order from AT&T because your account has been flagged for fraud as you paid of two next plans early.
5. You have unified billing (combined wireless and directv account) and the system won't allow you to order for Apple.

My question to you all: Has this happened to you? Any suggestions?

I'm going to go with #2 and #4. Att has systems in place restricting how many times people can start installments and pay them off in a certain period of time since it's a method used by fraudsters who have stolen people's identities. They go to one city, buy phones using someone else's info/fake id. Pay off the installments, go to the next city and do the same. They pay very little up front for the phone, sell it full retail in USA or over seas.
