I guess this is the part I'm not understanding. I don't know by how much my monthly bill will be reduced once I join Next. I currently have a family plan with three lines that I plan on converting to Mobile Share, since that seems to be a bit cheaper and will offer more. I'm waiting until after receiving the phone to do so, to avoid any complication.

EDIT: Looks like I'm currently paying $50 for voice and $30 for data for my line alone, not including the other two, before fees.
Typically it's $40/month for older plans or lines that are under contract on newer plans. For lines on Next (or simply not on contract) on the newer plans there is a discount of $15/month if the shared data is under 10 GB or $25/month if the shares data is 10 GB or more.

If I change to a 5GB Mobile Share plan, I'll be paying $50 for Voice/Data/Text + $25 because it's a smart phone line.

Where does the discount for Next come into play? Would it end up being $50 + $25 (as stated above) + $47.50 (phone) - $15 (discount) or am I not understanding it correctly?
Mobile Share plan will have a base price that includes your data, voice and text. To that you add devices. The rate per phone is $40 but from that you get a discount if you use Next or own the phone outright. You cost per device will be $15 so $25 off per device. If you are on a 2-year contract for your phone, your monthly device fee will remain $40.

Edit: Posted at the same time as above but will leave the text in place.

Thanks guys, makes more sense now.

Looks like my bill will be more expensive with Next no matter what. It sucks, but I guess this is the direction things are going in. I feel like I might as well jump on it now rather than renewing one of my other two contracts again. From what it looks like, there's no discount applied to "dumb phones" on the Mobile Share plan anyway, so they can remain off contract for as long as they're being used without penalty, then I can cancel them if need be.

Not sure what you use for data but if you think you can use up to 10Gb you might want to look at the current promotion. They are offering 15Gb for the price of 10Gb plus unlimited talk and text to Canada and Mexico. Not sure when the deal ends. I took advantage of a similar deal earlier in the year.

That's still more expensive than old style plans with unlimited data and 2-year contract subsidy. I say keep the old plan until AT&T stops giving the subsidies.

Not necessarily. It depends on a few things like fan discounts, how many lines, how much data is used. There are quite a few people that save money switching from the unlimited and going with an msv plan with next

Does anyone remember if you have an ATT Premier (organizational discount) type ATT account was there issues ordering through Apple last year for ATT?

I plan on doing NEXT and have just checked and my account is eligible but it brought me to the Premier site to upgrade.

Just covering all my bases for a smooth pre-order night and prefer going through apple vs att.

This was the issue with our family plan. When I had two lines, I couldn't justify Next. I was hesitant to give up my unlimited, but now that we are going up to four lines, it will be less expensive. AT&T retention offered me a 30GB plan for $98.60 after the FAN discount. I could have gotten 20GB for $71 after FAN.

I bought through the Premier site last year, didn't have any problems.

I'm looking for help making a decision before upgrade time arrives. I'm currently a long time ATT customer that's clinging to his unlimited + 1500 messages plan. I'm eligible for a contract renewal upgrade but given the changes with ATT and contract renewals, I'm considering just giving up unlimited for a 5GB share plan and moving to Next. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this can actually save me money.

Currently my bill is as follows:

Nation 450 min w/ rollover - $40
Unlimited data - $30
1500 messages - $15
FAN Discount - ($14)
Total $71 + taxes etc.

If I move to Next w/ 5GB mobile share:

MobileShare 5GB - $50
Device fee - $40
Value discount - ($15)
FAN discount ($10)

Total - $65 + taxes etc.

As for usage I average 3 - 3.5GB/month so I really wouldn't be in danger with moving from unlimited. It just seems silly if I move to Next to not also switch to a MobileShare plan to take advantage of the discount.

Am I correct in thinking that the smart choices are 2 yr contract + unlimited or Next + MobileShare plan?

I can tell you that for a scuff, I would gladly take that as a trade in. There are four or five questions we have to answer yes to in order to take in a trade. Basically ask yourself these questions: does it include the battery, is the screen damaged, does the device power on and off, is there any water damage.
If you feel confident that you'd pass these questions, you're golden =]
Thank you!! Mine has a pretty decent scuff on the top when I dropped it without it being in a case, but it works perfectly well and is pristine in all other regards. I've been worried about that scuff for trading-in purposes.

I believe you're forgetting the device cost for Next, which varies depending on the device. It's separate from the line charge.

Hey guys I have an issue. I'm on the apple website testing things out for trade in next and such. When I get to the screen where it tells me the iPhone that needs to be traded in, it's giving me the original IMEI of the iPhone purchased last year. However, it was replaced by Apple under warranty due to antenna issues. Will AT&T accept the replacement phone?

Yes, as long as it was provided by an approved system, aka Apple Warranty, AT&T warranty, or Asurion insurance claim.

Do I have to provide proof or will they just figure it out? I will most likely be upgrading through Apple so I have to trust the mail in option unless I can bring it to a corporate location after.

You won't be able to take it to a corporate location after the fact. When you got the replacement, did you call/stop by at&t to have the IMEI updated in the system?

I'm actually one of those people who save with Next even after factoring in device costs and subsidies (4 smartphones with 10/20GB double data promo).

For Nikos though, seems like he only has 1 smartphone line and 1 or 2 dumbphone lines ($10/mo ea) for transferring upgrade eligibility. In this case, the new Mobile Share plans are more expensive.

I think the dumb phones went up by $5 to $15 from $10. Was looking at my account and I remember the dumb phone was $10 before. Now I noticed it's $15.

You can also call in to AT&T or go into the store and have them update your IMEI if it makes you feel better
