Would they double a 30gb plan to 60gb ? Or this is only good for going from 10 to 20gb ?
Thanks

They will double anything over 15GB per month just for asking, pretty sure you can do it on the website. Promotion ends 10/31.

This thread is for people who had the plans under 15GB, those technically aren't included in the promotion.

There is no need to lie or threaten to cancel. You can state that Sprint has the double data promotion and you were wondering if AT&T would match that offer. It's quite simple. Just be sure that you're speaking with someone from the retention department.

As many others have shown by example, it's very easy to figure a way to do this while stating the truth.

In my case I stated that if I couldn't get the double-data on the 10GB plan I'd need to consider alternate carriers as I expected my data needs to go up and didn't want to pay more than my current bill.

There's absolutely nothing untrue in what I said above. Who doesn't consider alternate carriers periodically?

(FWIW, I wasn't aware of the Sprint promo when I called yesterday, just that they were giving the double data promo to 10GB mobile share customers if you asked. Otherwise it'd have been even easier)

No doubt. Even WITH AT&T giving you double data for "free" you're still paying $15 a month line charges (which Sprint is waiving through 2015). We have 3 phones, that's $45 per month - so during that time we're paying around $700 more than we'd pay Sprint for the same plan.

Tried twice and failed. I think they were regular customer service reps not willing to do anything.

This time I called the main number, option 5 then option 5. Got the retentions guy, said "i want to know what the procedure to cancel is because Sprint is offering a 20gb plan for the same price".

Rep said "I think i can help you with that....."

Success.

Yay! This thread is just awesome. Never before has a forum newbie caused so much unbridled happiness round here :)

Just to remind everyone: You've got to get through to retentions.

  • Retentions get paid by being nice to you and giving freebies to retain you as a customer.
  • Regular Customer service folks get paid by selling you more stuff.

They will not do each others jobs.

It sucks because you have to lie to someone ("I am going to leave AT&T if you don't.."). A lot of people don't feel comfortable lying to another human being.

There is no reason to lie. I, and many others, called AT&T and stated:

"I just noticed that Sprint is offering 20GB with unlimited text and talk for the same price of our 10GB. Can you help me?"

And without much hesitation, the rep matches the deal.

I called and was able to obtain the deal. I just said that a colleague was looking to move to Sprint because they offered more data for the same price and I was wondering if I could get the same deal. No hassles, the rep added it to the account.

It's been a couple of hours and still waiting for mine to show up. I believe it will, rep said it would, but I will not rest easy until I see it on my account.

Did you get a text or email to confirm the change? I ended up calling them again today to have the retention department confirm that the plan was changed and that it's permanent.

same here they are saying it only starts at 15gb....talking to retentions now...see if they can see something else....

edit:retentions say that they would like to keep me as a customer since i've been so loyal and will upgrade the 10 gb for free!

Worked like a charm. Took a few minutes, rep told me to wait until I get my upgrade in (should be tomorrow), activate it and my new plan will kick in. 20gb for life of the plan is not bad. Looks like I'm staying with AT&T for a few more years.

No confirmation email or text here but...

I just did this, called 611. Said "Retention" and was transferred. Told the lady that there was a promotion on Sprint for 20 GB for the same price of my 10 GB and I'd prefer to match it if possible. Then she asked me "So you're saying that if we don't match the 20 GB promotion, you will cancel your service and switch to Sprint?". Told her that sounded right, and she immediately doubled my data for the same price. Took 5 mins tops.

Good point. I called them last night and as soon as I hung up the phone I got a text: "Thank you for allowing me to assist you today, blah , blah" with the name of the very nice lady I'd spoken to. I also checked online immediately and it had changed to 20GB. Surprised how fast it showed up. It never used to.

FWIW, I have four lines on a Mobile Value iPhone on 4G LTE plan: 2 Next and 2 out of contract.

Thank you!!! Took 2 calls and 3 people but once I finally got to the retention dept. She said no problem! Other 2 people said there is no way they would match it.

Some reps will tell you that offer is good only if you want to actually cancel. Of course they tell you that so it's on file for a supervisor and by telling you that, they give you a hint to threaten to cancel.

Phew, I'm glad posting a new thread on an existing topic didn't get me banished to the hinterlands of MacRumors! I figured others would be as jazzed about this news as I was, but I didn't have a feel for how aggressive MR forum members are about policing threads (except for "bent phone" threads, which I completely understand trying to limit!)

It's fun to check back in this thread and see so many people saving money (a passion of mine, probably explains why I was reading SlickDeals :D)

Unfortunlatey this is only for Mobile share plans.

I have a Nationwide plan 700 mins + 2gb (wife's) $25 + add a line $10 + unlimited data (mine) $30 = 145 a month (including tax)

Id have to switch to mobile share for them to upgrade my wifes 2gb to 4gb.

if i did contract for 20gb 100$ - discount = 77$ + 2 x $40 access = 157$+tax
if i did next for 20gb = 77$ + 2 x $15 = 107 + about 66$ for devices = 169+ tax

depending on how much tax is( I hear its about 20-25$). I'd be going up 10-20 a month + tax . so possibly $40 more a month to have 20gb instead of fake unlimited thats throttled after 5gb, and a 2gb plan. ( I avg around 11gb now)

I dont see us using a full 20 gb even if i continued to go bonkers on the netflix.
