Do you have a Small Business account? I tried again and they insisted it starts at 15GB.

I just get the FAN discount through my employer, which is a Fortune 500 company, so I doubt it.

Sorry you're having so much trouble with it. If you get through to retentions it seems like it should be easy. I'm sure you've called more than once already but you may want to keep trying.

I didnt go next. I just used the upgrade and chose the 2 year contract extention for my iphone 6 plus. Apparently the charge is 40.00 for that phone since its on a existing 2 year contact.

You will be charged $40 until your out of contract. There is no way to get that changed. It is an automatic charge and based on your contract.

Phew, I'm glad posting a new thread on an existing topic didn't get me banished to the hinterlands of MacRumors! I figured others would be as jazzed about this news as I was, but I didn't have a feel for how aggressive MR forum members are about policing threads (except for "bent phone" threads, which I completely understand trying to limit!)

It's fun to check back in this thread and see so many people saving money (a passion of mine, probably explains why I was reading SlickDeals :D)

Don't worry, you're bound to post something in the next day or two that will make you scum of the earth around here. :p

Seriously, thanks for sharing. :)

Has anyone had an issue doubling their data with an outstanding order? The rep said it wouldn't allow her to Doyle my data because I had an iPad on order?

Thanks

Jason

I have a Note 4 coming in and she still did it. She just said it won't kick in until I activate the new device. Once I do, it will automatically change to 20gb.

Did this earlier today. Call 611 from my phone, options 5 then 6. Spoke to a nice lady from retentions and she switched my plan right away from 10GB to 20GB. Got a text message on my phone a few minutes later. I think I was on-hold in their automated system longer than it took the rep to change my plan.

Spoke with retention, told him about the Sprint 20GB deal.

20GB, Microcell(free) $35 credit.

Text and email confirm

I think key is to be polite!!

Thank you.

I figured I would chime in with my details and thoughts on my call.

I called 611 from my phone, and after a minute of listening to all the options, I pressed 0. I then pressed 1 to cancel my account I believe it was.

I was on hold for about two minutes before I was transferred to someone. I was greeted by a very enthusiastic person by the name of Pratt. He wanted to know what I could do for him and I told him that I was considering switching eventually to Sprint for their $100 20GB/month plan, which is not a lie. I was also considering T-Mobile as well. He then went into saying how AT&T was the best carrier for me, how they won all these awards, and cover 99.9% of America.

He informed me he could not match the plan, since it would involve raising the prices per line compared to AT&T. He did say that since I was a loyal customer who was not throwing a fit, he would double my data at no extra cost, since this is the "new promotion silently announced three days ago". I waited on hold for five minutes for him to do what he had to do, and then he told me he was going to erase the data and back date it to the beginning of the month. He sent me a text message to confirm I received the 20GB/month deal, and then asked me to refresh AT&T website to make sure it was active on my end.

Whole call took about 10-12 minutes and it was very simple and easy to do. I now have 20GB of date, unlimited talk and text, and no increase in my bill.

Thanks to the OP!

I saw someone post that the rep said they couldn't double their data because they had an iPhone on order but that they'd do it in November and put a note in their file - something like that.

Well, there is one way: Return and rebuy on Next. Of course that only makes sense if it actually works out to be cheaper with Next (should be true for 10GB+ plans). Some might also say that it's kind of a crappy thing to do, but it's an option.

Since I replied: Huge thanks to the OP. I'm going to try this right now and will update my post with the results.

I just got it successfully on the second try. The first time I dialed 611 then 0 then 3 as I saw on this thread but it just got me to the regular CS who said they couldn't match the Sprint deal, I could upgrade to the 30GB promo etc. I called back and just said 'cancel service' and it got me to the right place, who quickly upgraded me to 20GB without a question.

Glad I read this thread. I have a 10GB plan. 2 days ago I upgraded to the 15GB to get the 30GB. Thing is even with my discount that would cost me $23 extra. Honestly 30GB is a lot for 3 lines. Just called AT&T took me 5 min. They put me back on the 10GB and now is 20GB. All I did was mentioned the sprint promo and that's it. Thanx.

Just did this myself, on a FAN account so called 611, 5,5 and before I could even complete my question about matching the Sprint deal that great lady on the phone said sure no problem and got everything done in a couple of minutes.

No need to mention canceling.

I have an iPad Air 2 on preorder, and they doubled mine to 20gb with no problem. I logged in immediately after, and it was already showing on my account. The iPad will be the eighth line on my account.

I called and it would have cost me more than the old plan I currently have. I currently pay $129.74 total a month (that includes taxes) I have 2 phones on this plan... The plan I currently have is unlimited data, 700 mins a month with 10 landline numbers that dont count against my mins. unlimited mobile to mobile and unlimited texts... Plus I get my phone at the subsidized prices. I have never been throttled. They offered me a one time $25 credit for being a long time customer. Plus a few weeks ago they credited for both my activation fees for the two iPhone 6 plus I got. I cant complain.

Okay.. my question.. can someone change their plan to this? As in my case, going from the grandfathered Family Talk plan w/unlimited data, to this?

Doing the math on this, If I went to this at NEXT-18 BYOD, I'd be paying $1080 LESS over a 24-month period versus my UDP, and with upgrading phones, I'd be paying $460 less over 18 months than the 15GB (30GB) plan.

After that, my only concern is if 20GB will be enough, as looking at my current plan, I'm averaging roughly 4GB of data on one phone, and nearly 5GB on the other for my plan (and those are already throttled at 3GB.. both iPhone 4Ses)..

Anyone here have 2 phones on their plan and have switched to this? If so, how does your data usage look so far?

BL.

Just got off the phone. The first option he gave me was to upgrade from 10gb to 30gb for $7/month extra. I have a FAN discount too which drops that down to $5.60. Not sure if he would have offered 20gb for no extra charge but I was happy with the results.

Took about 5 minutes.

Tada!

Just got my 2GB doubled to 4GB. Thanks for the tip OP!

My story

dialed 611. Automation told me to speak a sentence into the phone. Just said "RETENTION" Then auto mation said i was being sent to cancellation department

I asked the rep after they verified me... "I heard sprint is offering double the data of 20gb for same price as ATT for just 10gb. Can you match this?"

She said YES. And then said, that this is not through normal channels. But she'd be happy to take care of it.

Worked with my family's mobile share plan, even with FAN (personal) discount. Call took about 5 minutes, most of it just waiting for the system to update.

Cheers.

Just got off the phone with the rep. It took a bit of finessing, but got transferred over and everything went smoothly thereafter.

Now I've got 20GB of data. WOOOOT.

Another success story...

Called 611 - 0 - 3 and waited for a rep for about 2 minutes.

I explained that I had taken advantage of the double data on 15GB plan earlier this month, but was reconsidering the value since I was usually right around 10 GB used each month. I said I heard that AT&T was now offering double 10GB through his department and he said "Yup, I can help you out with that."

After chatting for about 2 minutes while he made the changes in his system, it was all set. I logged in to myATT and confirmed the data allotment of 20GB and a base price for Family Share of $100.

Couldn't have been more pleasant or easier to take care of. No lying, no threatening. I think the reps realize if the customer is calling in and gives them enough information that it will be an easy/pleasant interaction.

From AT&T's standpoint, the percentage of people who will actually call in and ask for the double 10GB plan is tiny... they still do better by dealing with those folks but NOT promoting it on the website or in printed materials.

The rep even congratulated me on keeping up with what was available by checking out online forums and asking for the better deal "no reason to pay extra for the data you won't use" was the exact quote, I think.

No Dice

I called, got retentions. Instead of being helpful, I was told that my value with AT&T was in the cost per line, but that there were no deals to double data to 20GB, and that they had been receiving a rash of calls asking about it, and all of them were being told no. So... YMMV?

I told her that we were considering Sprint, since their data deal was a better price. I told her that "a coworker" had called about the same thing and had their data doubled from 10GB to 20GB. Nope.

Eh. It'd be nice, but I hate calling customer service, and I especially hate being treated like I'm crazy. Not worth doing that again.
