This is awesome. I just gave up my unlimited plan a few weeks ago to jump on the 30gb offer even though I felt it was a bit much for my two lines. 20gb seems the way to go. Going to call once they open to save a few bucks. Thanks for posting!

Was able to call and get this done. I asked the CS rep for the retention department and she seemed a little irritated and asked "well can I help you with anything?" lol.

Transferred to another Lady who helped me and was much nicer. Saved me $30 bucks.

I called, got retentions. Instead of being helpful, I was told that my value with AT&T was in the cost per line, but that there were no deals to double data to 20GB, and that they had been receiving a rash of calls asking about it, and all of them were being told no. So... YMMV?

I told her that we were considering Sprint, since their data deal was a better price. I told her that "a coworker" had called about the same thing and had their data doubled from 10GB to 20GB. Nope.

Eh. It'd be nice, but I hate calling customer service, and I especially hate being treated like I'm crazy. Not worth doing that again.

Do. It. Again. You're letting a rep on a power trip win. Most of the people have been very helpful and have done it with no trouble. Please do it again.

Thanks OP!

I did it! The first CSR said she'd have to transfer me to get it done, but she knew what I was talking about. While on hold for #2, I had to get back to work. The CSR#1 agreed to take over for me. She sent me a text when completed.

Then I texted by 71 yr old dad. He doesn't have patience for "CSR games" but he uses a lot of data (parents phones are their laptop hotspots instead of wifi) He managed to get it too! And he's the kind of guy likely to hang up at the first "no"

Quite literally.. The most PLEASEANT call I've ever made to any company.

Called to cancel my service and got connected to a guy named Wilson In Florida. Asked me how I was and what he could do to help. I said I was well and asked him how he was. Small talk. And then I said the punch line,

"I was shopping around for another carrier and noticed sprints 20gb for the same price im paying now with ATT"

He response:

"We don't match other carriers plans. But what I will do for you today, is double your data to 20gb for the same price you are paying for the 10gb. how does that sound?"

I said "thank you Wilson, that would be wonderful"

He didn't want to get off the phone with me until I got the confirmation text and email. And sent it twice to make sure it got to me. In the mean time we talked football and beer (hes a chargers fan and loves IPAs - he's from California :)) And then asked me to log on to my account and check to confirm it"

I checked, confirmed and that was it. Seriously, the nicest guy I spoke with dealing with a company in a while.

You have to speak with Retentions. And it helps to be polite.

THANK YOU OP! AWESOME FIRST POST!!!

So I called back and they saw the notes in there that showed they were changing me but no actual change in my account. He said maybe someone clicked the wrong box. Anyway he changed me over and I saw the change while on the phone with the guy.

He also gave me a $200 credit on my account, he made my day.

If you're telling the truth you would be crazy not to call back and talk to someone else.

Just called and got a really nice lady ! I said I saw that Sprint was offering this 20gb/$100 deal and if they are willing to match the deal and she said of course she would be calling and doing the same thing to save money :D Just checked my account and 20gb is active with no change in my bill :p

Edit: Make sure you call 611 and I think it was option 5 and then 6. Basically the options to terminate your service with AT&T

Thanks OP!

Would have taken the 30gb for $7 additional, but that was not offered to me.

Needless to say, took 4 minutes and 13 seconds to make the change. :)

My first post on this forum. First of all, thank you! I want to confirm that it was easy to upgrade to 20 GB from the retention department. The customer svc rep stated right away that it would be no problem and transferred me to the Retention Dept. The lady in retention first mentioned that I didn't qualify and said that social media is blowing this out of proportion. I simply stated that it is very competitive and that Sprint is offering the 20GB plan for $100. Once I mentioned that I was thinking about switching, the lady said not to worry and that her supervisor was approving on the spot.

I am looking forward to learning more about everything Apple-related from this forum! Thanks again!

...I'm telling the truth.

I'll probably try it again later, she just really pissed me off and frankly I don't want to restart the process with that frame of mind.

Just got off the phone. The first option he gave me was to upgrade from 10gb to 30gb for $7/month extra. I have a FAN discount too which drops that down to $5.60. Not sure if he would have offered 20gb for no extra charge but I was happy with the results.

Took about 5 minutes.

I was on 10GB and upgraded to the promotional 30GB for $30 more a month. In light of ATT now willing to double the 10GB (to 20GB), I am tempted to call retentions and drop back down to save $30/month. However, if there is a way I can instead get the 30GB for only $7/month extra I think I would definitely stick with that! How did you do it??

After getting changed to the 20GB plan metntion here, I now see this message when trying to view my plan online.

Looks like you have the only Mobile Share plan currently available to you. For further assistance, call 1-800-331-0500.

Is anyone else seeing the same? Just want to confirm.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing as well. I wonder if we will eventually be able to see the other plans available after our next billing period. Or are we stuck to calling or chatting with an AT&T CSR when exploring future available plans?

Totally worked for me. I just did 0 at the first menu, selected cancel account at the second menu, and got straight to retention. The woman on the phone knew exactly what I was talking about when I asked if they could apply the double data rate promotion to the 10G plan, didn't even have to threaten to cancel. Many thanks to the OP.

I try the first time failed, 2 minutes later try again with another rep and about 5 minutes later. It works. 10GB to 20GB same price.

I'm a pretty new MacRumors forum member, so hopefully I'm not committing a huge faux pas by doing this. It has come to light that AT&T is now willing to match Sprint's 20GB for $100 family share plan by bumping their 10GB to 20GB and leaving the price at $100.

This is covered on page 10 of the AT&T Double Mobile Share Data Pool thread. The short version is, you have to call and talk to the retentions department. Tell them you're considering canceling and going Sprint for the 20GB for 10GB price, but you heard they would match. It's pretty easy. Must be done by 10/31.

However, I think this is pretty big news, especially for folks like me who took the 30GB offer, but really only needed a bit more than 10GB.

Thus, I started a new thread about a topic in an existing thread. I know, people get flamed for this. I think it is warranted in this case because the news is located on page 10 of the thread and I doubt most interested parties will see it. If you disagree, please flag this thread for a moderator to delete.

Thanks for this Roland ! I just did this, took like 5 minutes. We never use our 10gb, the most we ever used was 8gb, but I did get a warning text when we got to 8gb, and we slowed down our data use. Now with 20gb, we don't have to worry. Thanks again ! Best thread I ever read, lol.

Wife did this on the first try today, and the retentions rep was super nice about the upgrade. Now, as to what we are going to do with all of that data...

This is speculation, but:

I would not recommend anyone calling and referencing the existence of this deal. In other words don't say "I heard people are getting their 10GB plans doubled." I imagine the rule of the deal is that the customer has to express a competition-based desire for the 10GB->20GB doubling, or at least bring up AT&T's public promotion (15->30)

In other words I'd suggest focusing on the existing AT&T doubling deal and Sprint's 20/100 deal.

In my case I recently activated a phone, not sure if that has an impact on success (you'd think it would hurt your chances of a retention deal, but at the same time the data doubling promotion says you have to activate a new phone).

Thanks again to the OP and everyone who confirmed.

Yeah, my CSR actually told me they've been doing this for a couple of weeks (bumping people from 10gb to 20gb). I guess it's not as publicized as the 15gb to 30gb, but they are matching the 10gb to 20gb. But I'd definitely go through retentions if I was trying to do it again, it works, and they did it fast (5-7 minutes). Even was updated on the my AT&T app instantly.

Worked for me through the chat. Asked about matching the Sprint offer and was transferred to retentions. She did it without a hitch and I have 20 GB already.

I do note that when I go to look at my current plan online it says that I have the only plan available for my account, which others have also seen.

Very good advice. I didn't even mention AT&T's doubling from 15-30, I only mentioned Sprint doubling people's data for free, told them I was thinking about switching, asked if they were willing to match, and he said yes immediately. The rep himself was the one who told me they've been doing this for a couple of weeks, but I wouldn't mention that if I was tryinng to get mine doubled.

Has anyone had an issue doubling their data with an outstanding order? The rep said it wouldn't allow her to Doyle my data because I had an iPad on order?

Thanks

Jason

I placed an order for an iphone 6 yesterday and I had no trouble getting the data doubled on the same day!

Hundreds of people already confirmed and roughly 5 said they couldn't get it. Definitely not YMMV.

Just called and got this deal. Dialed 611, said "retentions" to the computer, and it forwarded me right to them. The lady was very pleasant, and I explained to her that I was disappointed that I had recently had a data overage on my 10GB plan. Then I mentioned that Sprint was offering 20GB for the same price I was paying ATT. As soon as I said that, she repeated it under her breath like she was looking for it in a drop down menu or something, then offered to reverse the overage, give me 20 GB for the price of 10GB, and gave me a $25 credit to boot. They also seem to have reset my data counter to zero for the month so far. Thanks OP, you got me 10 extra gigs a month for free and put $40 in my pocket:D
