I'm very curious with the 4s's that have been unlocked. No one seems to be posting how long the wait has been AND if they're bought out of the contract or what. I've got one year left on my contract (did the early ~$450 upgrade or whatever last year) but have been with them since the first iPhone launch day AND have always paid over $100/mo for service. I figure they don't really have all that much to lose with letting you unlocked it considering you still have the contracted service and would have to buy out of that or take a hit with collections if you just stopped paying them. Also, you can't get a subsidized phone from them just because this one is unlocked so they aren't forking out anything extra for you....

Awesomesauce. AT&T already unlocked my out of contract phone (using it now on a prepaid Panamanian SIM) so I bet they'll do it for a used iP4S I just bought from the Marketplace forum.

No in the USA Verizon uses CDMA for the iPhone 4S. If you have an AT&T iPhone 4S and unlock it then you can use and compatible GSM carrier or reseller but not CDMA.

Dave

But the hardware is universal, right? The Qualcomm chip supports both GSM and CDMA, right? So there is an additional lock at another layer?

The real issue is that Verizon won't add your non-Verizon phone to their system.

Also, the SIM from a Verizon iPad is for LTE. The 4s doesn't have LTE.

Got my iphone4s unlocked right when they announced unlocks were available. Just got my Gf's iphone4s unlocked over the weekend using this website. Both of our phones were purchased last October.

Usually how long does it take to get a response back? It's been 2-3 days already since I've submitted an unlock request.

Crap well AT&T turned me down for the unlock request via their site. Seems like the reports of people in-contract getting theirs unlocked via the site is indeed a crapshoot. I'm going to call them later just to see if maybe I get a rep who is willing to do it, but both myself and my wife (both still under contract on our 4S's) were turned down.

I'm able to upgrade with the extra $250 plus fee, my wife has to pay full retail for ip5.

Is this the same message you're getting?

"We cannot complete your request because we found no valid current or former mobile or account number for this request.
If you have questions, review the general eligibility requirements for unlocking an iPhone."

I can't tell if that's saying they won't unlock because I'm still in contract, or they are having some problem and don't "see" any line on my account that's an iPhone...

Acarney that is the same message that I got. Doesn't really make any sense to me so I just resubmitted my request.

Worked great for me. Submitted the information on the AT&T website and received an e-mail the next day with instructions on unlocking through iTunes. It did tell me to wait 24 hours before trying (which I did). So, it took a total of just two days to unlock my iPhone 4.

I promptly sold it on Craigslist for $360. The unlock was a big part of this as a T-Mobile owner was the one who purchased my phone and verified that it worked with a T-Mobile sim when we met up. I will be applying this $ towards iPhone 5. :)

Yes I got the same message... I didn't want to waste time resubmitting so I just paid the $8 or whatever it is to the seller unlock_fusion on eBay and an hour later I have a working, unlocked 4S still under contract up on sale on eBay.

If anyone's interested in either a 64GB White or 64GB Black, unlocked GSM iPhone 4S, my eBay seller ID is james_lepage. Phones are in awesome condition with AppleCare+ until 10/2013.

Explain this unlock... Does it hold up between iOS upgrades? Is it any hacking on your end or just wait for the heads up and then restore from iTunes? If its not kosher to post a link here can you direct message me? ^_^
