Dear AT&T, Verizon & Others:

Offer a plan that has it all unlimited for an affordable rate (~ $40/mo) and we'll use it.

Sooooo tired of this BS from the phone companies. Quit nickel & diming us - just give us the plans we want. The phone can do all these things, why not let it?

They know they have us over a barrel. Wait until they phase out 3G for LTE....data caps, 20-40% increase in price and new onerous terms.

Nice! That means I'm grandfathered in without having paid for data I'm not using for the last six months (I'm on the $15/mo plan).

Competition is Good

Even though I kept my unlimited anyways, it's always nice to know that competition is making it accessible for others to get theirs back.

ATT Won't Let me Change Back

I just tired and they said no!! I had unlimited since 2007. I got rid of it a few months ago, but I'd like to go back and they said, "No Way!". Has anyone had any luck in switching back? If so, please share.

Wow, people think there's competition? This is not even confirmed. Besides, Verizon themselves are only offering the unlimited data for a limited time, and will switch to tiered plans. If there's a real competition, we won't have the ever decreasing bandwidth allowance. I smell bull. In any case, for those that are grandfathered on the unlimited plan, hold that as tight as you can.

I kinda hate this idea. To be frank, AT&T works great where I live, very few dropped calls or problems at all. However, given the option of doing this in bigger markets will just keep making the bandwith usage multiply once again in those areas, making things suck. My wife and I are planning a vacation to Philidelphia and New York City in March, and I hope that my phone works fine while I'm there.

Edit: I should also add that I am on the $25 2GB plan, and I have no probelms with it because most of the places that I go to daily have Wi-Fi anyways.

I've been an AT&T/Cingular/SW Bell customer since the mid-90's, but they have been extremely anti-consumer of late.

They should just suck it up and offer the $30 unlmited plan to all iPhone customers (publicized, like before). It's not like it's a "real" unlimited data plan anyway. Apple has placed lots of restrictions within iOS to help AT&T's network including limits on streaming bitrates for audio and video and a hard maximum limit of 20MB for video, podcast and app over-the-air downloads.

About the only way to accumulate lots of data on 3G, is to stream Pandora and Netflix all day long.

Not to mention, there are probably millions of AT&T iPhone customers paying for 3G plans that do not even have 3G in their areas because a data plan is required to even purchase an iPhone.

Then there's the outragous tethering plan that cost $15 extra, doesn't include a separate pool for data and forces you to downgrade from unlimited to a 2GB "DataPro" package.

It'll be interesting to see if the competition's offerings force any changes between the two of them over the long haul.

The problem are the people, who go: NOT IN MY BACKYARD to every new cell tower. No new cell tower = no new capacity = no unlimited plans.

i just want unlimited data with tethering, or a reasonable (not 2 gigs that is too little) plan with tethering (because the tethering comes out of your data plan).

Yep. Those people are the worst. I wouldn't mind getting one installed in my backyard, literally. Yet somehow I am sure I'd still drop a call.

Did I read it wrong? I thought they are giving you the option to return to the more expensive plan @29.99 for unlimited data.

Thanks Apple for adding some competition to the mix
Thanks to Verizon for offering unlimited plan

good for those who are not grandfathered and don't want to switch to AT&T - but I don't think too many of those who want to switch will stay because of this.

I'm happy with coverage and don't have dropped calls (guess I'm lucky with where I life) and I have the grandfathered plan and don't need tethering. So I'm all good. The only thing that annoys me with AT&T is how slow they were enabling newer iPhone features while the iPhone users in the rest of the world were already enjoying it. For now I stay, but next time they are slow in enabling things, I switch (assuming that Verizon offers it)

Well, maybe it'd work in the backyard. We had a tower we could see from our front yard and we still got dropped calls and terrible data lag. (Really great signal strength though!)

I thought it was stupid they moved away from it anyway; the only possibility I saw for them doing it was to give the option back with 4G, but obvious that has been refuted.

The reason I thought it was stupid to do it in the first place is because they were trying to stop people from overloading their networks(for example techies who were trying to crash their networks) but anyone who really cared about being able to do that, or even downloaded enough data to pose a problem to the networks already had an iPhone, so they were grandfathered into it anyway!

so true, $30 for unlimited phone internet is just ridiculous.
it should be somewhere around $10 unlimited 3g, $15 unlimited 4g (when it comes out)

quick question my cousin has windows 7 phone can he get the unlimited data or is it just for iphone users?

I was last year twice in Philadelphia - most of the time I didn't even have a signal. Those two times were the only times ever that I had problems, but I was there only a day each time and had WiFi most of the time - but if you really depend on the phone being available 24/7 you might have a problem.

I wont switch, but then again I already have unlimited. I get 24% off my bill from employee hospital discount. I dont even work for any hospital. Thank the ATT employee for making the mistake. My brother got the iphone 4 in june with a 2 GB plan. Any new customers try to call ATT and demand an unlimited plan or they will switch to Verizon?

I was an idiot for changing to the 2gb plan last June so I just called in and after the rep talked to the "floor supervisor", she went ahead and changed me back to unlimited.

Now I don't have to keep an eye on my data usage every week :D

I need to call. I don't get within 500 megs of my 2gb limit but if I can have it back...I'll take it.
