I'm pretty sure any increase in your bill without them notifying you entitles you to end your contract for $0.

You do know that the AT&T TOS gives them exclusive rights to your first born, any body part of yours for their CEO upon 30 day notice, and domain over all your property real or otherwise.

I doubt it would be that easy. Its not like you can take them to court, as you agree to settle all disputes via arbitration.

In other news, AT&T has also begun allowing users to keep their call going rather than drop it in order to keep them from defecting to Verizon.

Ain't competition grand!!

Competition is grand...to a point when it involves two greedy companies like AT&T and VZW. If/when Sprint and T-Mobile get in on the iPhone action, maybe then things will get interesting and hopefully better for the consumer. Personally, I would like to see 1GB data for $15 a month being offered.

Here's a secret: Sprint and T-Mobile are also greedy. They're just less good at it.

This "to a few customers" and Verizon's "for a limited time" is crap.

They should introduce a permanent unlimited data plan. Make it a bit more expensive is fine - like, for $40 or $50 a month, including tethering. But having (eventually) no option for unlimited data is crap.

I'm grandfathered too, but I suspect a lot of people are getting all excited about paying $5/month more for a feature they will never use.
I'm always curious in what ways people are using their phones that they are going over 2gb a month. I use my phone quite a bit, but rarely am I in situations where I'm going to to stream an entire movie over 3g. I don't think I've ever gone over 300mb in a single month, and generally however around the 200mb mark.

ATT -- Just include a base amount of data with each of your smart phones as part of the standard contract. Then tier for those that use more data.

For example, kill the $15 dollar 200mb plan and build this into your base rates so there is no add on. As you say, most people don't even get close to this data usage, therefore, they are little to no burden on your network. The burden is with those using up more than 200mb, and for that, you can tier the charges. I would suggest $15 for 2GB and $30 for unlimited.

IF your goal is to keep your current customers or woo those over from Verizon to ATT, then be an INDUSTRY LEADER for your data pricing, and include a bundle of data for each account at your current base rates.

I agree... such a fine line between "competition" and "price fixing"

You're serious? Lowering your price to match someone elses lower price is what you would call price fixing? Now, if AT&T raised their rate, and so did Verizon, that would be price fixing. Look into the lawsuits about raising the price of texts from 10 cents to 20 cents. All the carriers did it from what I understand. Hmmm...

Isn't every company that wants to make money greedy to some degree? They have to, so they can survive. Good things are not for free. As long as there are enough people 'wanting' it and paying for it they will charge what they can - if not, than they are bad business people.

True. However more iPhone carrier options would still help. It might also help when the day comes that these companies realize that connected mobile devices have become necessities of life rather than the luxury convenience that they were perceived as a few years ago and offer more reasonable plans. Wireless companies in Europe and Asia have come to this realization and offer their customers better plans/service.

I'll keep my capped plan and save $5 a month. I live off my iPhone and have never used more than 950 MB/month - and that was when I was tethering. Usually I use about 300-500 MB. And I'm constantly on my iPhone. Granted, I have WiFi at home and work.

Personally, I prefer the option to save some money and go with a capped plan. I understand the appeal of unlimited plans, but I'd rather there be choices, rather than forcing me onto unlimited and effectively subsidizing others usage.

I gave up my unlimited plan when AT&T added tethering. It allowed me to cancel my laptop connect card so I saved about 60 USD/month.

Even on heavy months of tethering I only use between 1 and 1.5GB of data, so the cap has never bothered me.

I would love for AT&T to add an option for mobile hotspot use to the people who already pay for tethering.

But unlimited data days are sadly probably coming to an end in the mobile world.

Well it's better than nothing. Not sure why some people switched to the lower plans in the first place other than for tethering.

oh great im still f-ed.. i switched to att for the iphone 4 and i will never get unlimited data plan. att need to step up more!!!! verizon is apparently much more attractive, better reception + iphone 4 + unlimited data plan. come on att!!!

Nope

I just called AT&T and inquired about ending my current 2GB+Tethering option and switching back to regular unlimited (for jailbreak+mywi). They let me remove tethering no problem (which is a partial victory). But they didn't let me switch back to unlimited. I was surprised to actually hear them say grandfathering, but they said since I switched, I cannot switch back.

Don't know if I just didn't talk to the 'right person,' but I have a FAN number from my previous employer so it was Enterprise support that I spoke to. I intend to try again after Verizon actually releases the phone and say I am planning to switch. Anyone else have similar results?

Just had the same result with the same situation (FAN number from previous employer). The rep I talked to put me on hold for a few minutes to check with someone else to see if it was possible to add unlimited back on, but they apparently concluded that their system would not allow them to do so.

Oh well.

Nice! Well done...

I'm still using the 2G, so I should be good either way when I get the 4 next month...

I'm just curious, why get it next month? I'm also still on the original 2G iPhone the day it came out and since I waited this long, am waiting for the next new iPhone 4X or 5. Why would you upgrade next month when your so close to the annual refresh?
