How are employees at Apple store suppose to sell us phones? They don't have these info available.

How will they activate our phone and charge us accordingly? Anyone have any info on this????

what I heard, which was from the boyfriend of an employee so he could be talking from his butt is that in the apple stores, they would basically link the phone and your credit card so if you don't sign for service within like 30 days ATT can charge you the extra $200 (you have to sign an agreement to pay the money at the store. but you are paying Apple the $199/$299 only. all other money is ATT.

then you go home and deal with ATT. and if you aren't approved you have to return the phone or pay the fee.

Now, considering the FCC has a law on the books saying that I can call up my cell provider and have my phone unlocked from the carrier, couldnt I do that with my original iPhone, thereby freeing it up to be used on other GSM networks without having to resort to "jailbreaking" it? Isnt AT&T legally obligated to unlock my original iphone at my request if I made one?
I would LOVE to know the answer to that one.

talk to a lawyer. depending on the exact rules of the law, a class action suit might force ATT into essentially letting Apple out of the exclusive contract. which would be go for all parties.

although we'd potentially still have a similar mess with other companies if you cancel a contract early etc but at least you'd be with the company you want and can deal with using "i've been a customer for X years" as leverage.

One other question: when you get the new 3G phone and get rid of the other one, do you leave the SIM in the iPhone or transfer it to the new one? Because if I remember right, the 3G phone comes with a SIM ejector tool. I'm confused.

That's what the SIM ejector tool is for: eject SIM from original iPhone (or other phone), insert in 3G iPhone. Sync with iTunes. Done.

AT&T is NOT allowing early credit checks!

The AT&T store I visited today told me that they would be doing credit checks at the time of purchase for the new iPhone, and that they could do a credit check now, but that I would still have to do one at the time of purchase. So anyone that does an early credit check will end up with TWO dings on their credit score-- every time someone checks your credit record your FICO score goes down!

Eager buyer thinking twice

I plan on getting two iPhones soon after they come out. I had made this decision several months ago and I was waiting to see if there would be some breakthrough before I made the purchase. My patience was rewarded with the unveiling of the new 3G and the price break.

So put me near the front of the line, but wait a minute, what will the monthly charges be. I am currently playing about $85/month for two lines from Verizon and I see the AT&T charge is going to be $129. Ouch! That is over 50% more than I am now paying. Yes, I know that I will be getting more but that extra $540/yr. does a lot to take the shine off of the reduction in the price of the phone.

I also cringe when I think of a two year contract. Do they require all of their users to have contracts? I am reminded of Lilly Tomlin's comedy routine. "We don't care!, we are the phone company, we don't need to!"

Neither video helped me at all, nor did the AT&T reps in store.

My situation: I thought I was smart by porting the number over to AT&T on 6/14/08 in order to avoid the crowd and just pick up a new iphone 3G come 7/11.

Boy was I ever so wrong!!!!!

AT&T contract clearly STATES I have 30 days to return/exchange or completely cancel my phone or services without any penalty.

So I ported my number at a KIOSK at Costco....saved me activation fee for two phone and got myself a family plan. So I speak with the AT&T rep in store. He tells me it's no good. I can't get an iPhone for 199/$299. I probably need to pay $399/$499. WTF??? He says that I MUST activate a NEW line in AT&T store not any kiosk. I show him the AT&T contract that says I have the right to return/exchange. He says sure, you can port the number back to T-mobile and port it back..............Asshxxx.

I called 611. The AT&T customer service agent was actually very nice and told me that I am within my rights so if I return the phone to Costco, I will be elgible for $199/$299. So you would think I have the problem solved right? Being as anal as I am, I went to another AT&T store......yadayada....give me more run around and says that they must check with management again because I got the line through Costco....

Shxt!!! why don't they know what they are doing? if AT&T rep at 611 (2 different ones btw) says it's ok for me to get an iPhone 3G comes 7/11....what the hell is AT&T store problem?! I already returned the subsidized phone.

:mad::confused:
