Frustrating day watching this thread.
Checked my order first thing this morning and no change. So I checked these forums and saw others saying that local Apple stores had stock and they were cancelling to order from Apple and pick up in store. So I checked and sure enough, my local store had stock! So I cancelled my premier order and placed an order with Apple. Just to find out that Next upgrades cannot be picked up in store. I completed my order with Apple anyway and now have a ship date later than my "promised" date from my original AT&T order.
Then I see all these people on the forums today saying they started getting tracking numbers on their premier orders. Crap. My impatience has screwed me again. However, I did order a 64GB gold which seems to be the last to be getting tracking numbers.
Then I read that some have tricked the system and placed an order with Apple on a 2-year contract, paying full price to allow for in store pick up, and then when they pick up, returning it and getting the Apple store to do the Next upgrade. So that is my new plan to get my phone early!
I will be checking the local Apple store stock first thing in the morning and if they have them, I will be placing an order using my wife's number, paying the full price for a new 2 year contract and heading to the Apple store to do the old switch-a-roo. It seems like the Apple employees are more then helpful and willing to get you your phone no matter what.
If they laugh in my face and tell me I can't do it when I get there, well, I guess I just return the phone I pre-ordered and wait 3-4 weeks for my original order with Apple.
And all because AT&T couldn't get their act together for the pre-orders. *sigh*
