Lets say they get 1000 new orders across the 23 countries.
they have to proportion it. so instead of USA getting all 1000 phones. USA gets just 40. And Turkey gets 40 and germany gets 40 etc. on down the line.
So since its split like that, they cant keep up with demand.
But what other choice do they have? Only launch in one country and not in any other? Only launch when 25 million phones are ready? But then thats a huge risk if they dont sell. So they are in a pinch either way.
To me, this is where a "pre-order" should get priority over a phone that happens to be on shelf at an att store somewhere or at an apple store somewhere. that is bs.
Agreed on all points. With demand so high and supply so constrained, there are several things at fault here. Weeks ago we weren't even sure if Apple was going to release the 5.5 Plus along with the 6, they surprised us all by launching both. In retrospect, I would have much rather waited for the launch of the Plus in order to begin pre-orders on that device, but I hope many lessons have been learned from this flop of a release.
I think alot has to do also with the fact that many carriers were offering $0 down free financing for the device through various programs, in efforts to lock you in, which contributed to the large number of sales as well.
Next time around I'll bite the bullet and order through Apple, regardless if the site goes live as scheduled or delayed by hours like this time around. I can only imagine what the iWatch release will be like, I don't even want to think about that.

Does anyone else think that ordering on 9/19 or later does not constitute as a pre-order. In that case it wouldn't it just be a regular order?
I appreciate the frustrations a lot of people are having with AT&T and/or Apple over the long wait times but you should have been well aware of the supply constraints if you ordered your phone after its official launch. Many people on this thread ordered on 9/12 (including myself) and have yet to receive any news on when our phones would be delivered. I just don't think you "orderers" (vs. pre-orderers) have as much right to complain as those of us who have been waiting since the 12th for some kind of word on our devices. Its just my personal opinion, however unpopular.
I understand what you're saying and it makes complete sense, unfortunately we all know that many who have ordered after launch have already received their devices. We're talking days even weeks after 09/12. This only adds to the frustration and makes it seem as if AT&T is literally pulling names out of a hat when it comes to these orders.
