There is really no rhyme or reason to how this process works.
My details:
Ordered 126GB SG iPhone 6+ on 09/12 at 11:17am CST in an AT&T corporate store for a premiere account. Account switch from a 2yr. contract account to an AT&T Next account.
Finally switched from "Backordered" to "processing" two days ago. The website has not updated and I haven't received an e-mail with shipping notification as yet. My card has been charged the tax for my phone as of Friday - again two days ago.
This suggests that I should receive shipping information in the next day or two with the delivery by the end of the week. Original ship dates were for 11/09-11/27 so I will beat my window by a week and a half if things continue to progress. I, like many people, assumed that the reported ship windows were wildly inaccurate to cover liability issues for AT&T if Apple stock didn't meet the expected levels. Wow, were we overly optimistic.
I'm not really put off by people ordering from Apple, or T-Mobile, or Verizon getting their phones before me - that's the way it goes with different corporate leadership and processes sometimes. I had become rather pissed by the end of the week when many people who ordered the same phone configuration after me using both premier and non-premier accounts having had received theirs or at least their shipping information.
My takeaway, as someone who has had almost every iPhone model released so far and has never preordered any of them (let alone from AT&T), is that I will never engage in a preorder from this company again. Serious consideration has even been given to canceling my cell phone service for both me and my wife and our U-verse service and jumping ship to another provider just because of customer service issues regarding this process.
I'm glad that some of you have phones and hope they are living up to your expectations. If you have a 128GB phone, be sure not to put more than about 500 apps on it until Apple sorts out their glitch with machine reboots and lock-ups with that configuration.
