Explain the situation when you go in to the store. If it's possible, they should be able to assist you.
ive never entertained canceling. I'm still sitting out in la la land (11/27ish)...but I do get the people wanting to cancel and retry their luck because they are without a functional phone. I wish all of the eagerly waiting, iphone dreaming, pre-order fanatics -- myself included -- many memories of all the speculation and roller coaster refreshing.
P.S. I also will not know how to react when the day comes that I don't have to refresh this blog 560 times per hour!

You should be prepared to pay retail if need be and return it and repurchase the next day if need be. That way you will get the phone if they have it.
