Now every T-mobile tower will be servicing ATT customers and vice versa.

That means much better coverage. The combined coverage of both companies.

Here is ATT coverage:

And T-Mobile:

This should solve the complaints of weak ATT coverage in SF and NY.
I don't know how quickly AT&T/T-Mobile USA can implement this, but for sure, access to more cellular sites will probably help alleviate dropped connections in key metropolitan areas like SF and NYC.

The cellular permit process is horrifically slow in SF, it would be far faster to add additional equipment to existing sites for better coverage.

Everyone is going to have an iPhone now. :)

Not sure how I like this though. Now theres not much competition. I hope they keep the AT&T name

This is the stupidest things I've ever heard. The technology behind the phone doesn't matter and doesn't make them anticompetitive.
Just because switching carriers while keeping your handset is not very common in the US does not mean that completely taking away that option will have no negative influence on competition between carriers.

To spell it out, currently if you get an unlocked GSM handset, T-Mobile and AT&T compete for you, you have a choice between two carriers and in the pre-paid market you can switch very easily between which makes them compete. Once they have merged and you have bought a GSM handset, the barriers to switching carriers are higher (since it means getting a new handset) and thus there is less competitive pressure.

(Apart from the fact that competition with three carriers, even if all used the same technology, is most likely less intense than with four carriers.)

i want better building penetration. im not sure if thats exclusive to only cdma signal though.

i wouldnt mind service on the train either

Woah i didn't see this coming. The irony is i used to work for AT&T and left them to go work for t-mobile and now i will be working again for AT&T

Wow didn't see that one coming. The last I read, it appeared that Sprint of all carriers may be the one getting T-Mobile. Makes more sense that ATT gets them because of both are GSM

Get a life!

I don't get the people who post, most talk and talk bad about ATT and they really offer a good costumer service and coverage is excellent in most cities, I lived in Miami, perfect coverage, Chicago, perfect, and now in NY and it's has not been an issue.
You just don't have shi.... to to or say and just write anything. Get a life.
This new merger with bring more coverage and for us all ATT costumers it's a good thing.

Holy bleep!

What will happen to all those users of the Google Nexus One and Nexus S cellphones?

The N1 already works on AT&T's 3G. My N1 is on AT&T.

So how many jumped from AT&T to Verizon and now are wishing they did not jump?

Feeling att will increase prices on plans - a bad thing
cost of living keeps going up
bought a mega lottery ticket

Does anybody edit these stories? Errors abound.

You obviously took the blue pill.

Sigh....

I just switched to TMo to get away from AT&T a few months ago. They're coming after me? I've had an iPhone - DO NOT WANT. I've had AT&T - DO NOT WANT.

I just hope this rumor is false, or that they let people ditch their contracts, or they keep it so TMo users keep their advantages and customer service.

Not good for the new carriers in Canada. They run on the same AWS band as T-Mobile, and typically get phones after T-Mobile gets them.

This kills the chance of a Wind or Mobilicity iPhone.
