That's good to know. When I first saw this I thought "My wife's diamond ring is insured for $4 month" and it's worth A LOT more than an iPhone.

This is really outrageous. You are STUPID if you buy this product.

Also since it seems everyone has to buy with a credit card anyway..... most of the more reputable credit cards have one or more different buyers assurance, accident protection, etc, etc type services that most of us usually forget about (me being one)... But my only credit card is an AMEX and I'm pretty sure all my purchases are covered to some degree or another. Anyway another think everyone SHOULD look into before getting suckered into this highway robbery priced service.

Maybe its time for law enforcement to give the mob a break and start to go after the REAL criminals!

Check your resources before you speak!

Hmmm....
1) Will the $13.99 charge show on your At&t bill? NOPE (Asurion)
2) Can At&t even apply it to your acct? NOPE (mobileprotect.com)
3) Does At&t benefit from this insurance? Yep, but only by selling iphones

If you dont want the insurance then dont get it. Its better then buying the phone at full retail. Those that do get it will be happy they did.

Lets say you have had your 16gb 3gs iphone for 10 days after renewing your contract. It gets stolen and you are still in contract, but wait you have insurance now on your iphone and you only have to pay $200 to get a new one instead of $599. No brainer! Can Apple replace a stolen phone for $200? ummmm.....nope!!

Lmao this is absolutely hilarious how ignorant are people on here. Do you not realize that if there will be no deductible or very low deductible(eg $20) 9 out of 10 people will make a claim within 1st year?? If that would happen this insurance company will lose BIG bucks while goal of every company is make big bucks.

If you lived without official iphone warranty for so long why buy it now especially if you don't like it?

I'm thumbing UP this thread and definitely buying this when it comes out

I see your point, but the deductible is way too high. It should be half that amount. And the ONLY situation I see this insurance as beneficial is with theft. Otherwise, you can march into any Apple store at anytime and obtain a brand new phone at the exact same price as their deductible.

the most ridiculous pricing.... i'm sure prices will drop once they realize people are not stupid

It covers theft. That might be a huge selling point right there.

I might even consider this, knowing a lot of people who have had iPhones stolen.

As someone whose 3G was robbed (literally out of my hands) I agree. I'm pretty ticked they won't cover retroactively though it is expensive.

AT&T must be using drugs, $13.99 month

The genius at AT&T that came up with the price must be using drugs, $13.99 month. Before I got my first gen iPhone, I had a Razr with AT&T and thought that $4.99 a month was high but $13.99 is outrageous. Over 24 months that is $335.76, I believe that you can buy a refurbished phone for that price; they would give you a refurbished phone anyway. SquareTrade offers iPhone warranties/insurance that covers broken screens and liquid damage starting at $7.99 for a 8gb or pay for the two year up front for $96.00.

Don't people know that you can take a fully busted iPhone into the Apple store (every model) and swap it out with a refurbished one for $199???? I little sweet talking to the manager and they might even cut that in half to $99... I'm talking from experience btw..:)

2. Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPhone with a new or refurbished iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
iPhone 3GS Out-of-Warranty Service
16GB & 32GB $199
iPhone 3G Out-of-Warranty Service
8GB, 16GB $199
Original iPhone Out-of-Warranty Service
4GB, 8GB & 16GB $199

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if you arrange service online or by calling Apple Technical Support. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.

twice as much as verizon for the same service? Way to milk it Assurion. Or their studies have shown that Iphones are more prone to breaking, explaining the higher cost.

Verizon insurance for an iPhone is a rip-off!

Right... AT&T receives no commission for selling this insurance. They are doing it just for fun.

Actually we don't! I work for At&t and I know for a fact that we dont make any money because its not billed and we dont get paid for selling it like we do with the other insurance.

I am pretty sure there are a million other company's that offer this for cheap.

Actually BestBuy offers it for 12 dollars for the lifetime of your iPhone covers drops, stolen, lost, and warranty. Think again AT&T. I have the coverage plan.

there is real data from those companies that insure iphones that for some reason a huge spike in iPhone malfunctions occurs late may or early june every year. i think the data is from england.

everyone knows that a lot of people will destroy their iphones every year so they charge accordingly

AT&T Insurance Expensive!

In the land of OZ, my local provider OPTUS only charges $A8*/month.:)

An even cheaper option is to list the iPhone on your home contents insurance policy against theft or lost, which applies even if you are away from your house. :D

 Certainly a more attractive option then AT&T offer, what were they thinking?

* $A8 = $US6.76

Insurance

I got lucky and was able to insure my iPhone 3G though State Farm because I use them for my car insurance. I have been with the same agent for 10 years so they hooked me up, I was told normally that they do not insure "personal electronics" but she asked to speak to her manager for me (at "big State Farm" I suppose) and talked him into approving the coverage. It only costs me $45 a year for $600 complete coverage (drops, theft, spills, etc.). I would try this first with your insurance company before going with Assurion, sounds like they are robbing people!

Still...check your home insurance. It is likely covered, less whatever your deductable is. Then sock $14 a month aside in a savings account to even cover what aint covered.

Man! I'm astounded at how much money some people will sink into a phone! It's truly amazing!

I would highly recommend finding another insurance source and a better way of protecting it! ;)

SafeWare, SquareTrade, anything but this...

When I got my iPhone i could not believe that AT&T did not offer any insurance, they did on other smart-phones costing the same as the iPhone to replace.

Seeing this I compared it to SafeWare...

Policy cost for 1 Year of coverage is $99.00.
Covering: Apple iPhone 3GS - 32GB ($500)
Total Coverage Amount: $500.00

So for less money, I can basically get more coverage, and they just cut you a check... which was nice when my 3G broke, the 3GS had been on the shelf for 5 months...

Never Tried SquareTrade but their quote was 2 years for 129.00 and a 50$ Accidental Damage deductable

looks like they are preparing to lose exclusivity on the iphone... gaining extra sums of money from customers on a useless insurance plan... before the iphone opens up to verizon this fall. funny they didn't offer this years ago... oh, and they doubled the early termination fee for new customers. way to go att. we are in a recession, correct? so what's with all the increased fees? gotta love corp. america.
