think again

to justify waiting until the iPhone is available with multiple carriers.

Right now AT&T is a monopoly and they are rubbing our noses in it.

I will bide my time.......

if you really think that verizon sprint or t-mobile will do things any different then youve got another thing coming. Once again were still talking about companies who trade contracts for discounts. They are not your friend nor do they care about your cellular experience. The reason the iphone is appealing to me regardless of its carrier is because if i have any problems i get to go to apple and not to a commission based cellular employee who knows little to nothing about the 30 phones they sell.

What a mother****ing joke.

13.99? Really? Lets see... two year contract period... thats $336, plus the deductible. In cash I'd never see again. I'd rather just pay for a new iPhone outright if anything did happen, or pay for the repair, as at least that outlay isn't wasting money, and the statistical chances of having repeat high-expense issues are null if you take care of your product.

Ridiculous.

Can't say Verizon's any better though-- their insurance is still $$, but their data plans suck even harder. I've never seen such lack of value before, especially the one their trying to force on me now, 25 MB for 10.00/mo. Such value right? Can anybody overseas comment on their carrier, because it seems like US carriers are really giving us the shaft hard.

/rant.

It covers theft. That might be a huge selling point right there.

I might even consider this, knowing a lot of people who have had iPhones stolen.

I agree. You have to measure your risk. One time of paying full price and this doesnt look bad at all!

EPIC FAIL for AT&T!!! The guy that put this together needs to get kicked straight in the nuts! People are not that dumb to shell out an extra 13.99 a month for insurance and then pay a deducible on top of it. Over the course of a 2 year contract you would have thrown away 335.00 to AT&T IF you did not use the Insurance.

I'll keep my Apple Care for the iPhone but I will not add no 13.99 charge to my phone bill.

Lmao this is absolutely hilarious how ignorant are people on here. Do you not realize that if there will be no deductible or very low deductible(eg $20) 9 out of 10 people will make a claim within 1st year?? If that would happen this insurance company will lose BIG bucks while goal of every company is make big bucks.

If you lived without official iphone warranty for so long why buy it now especially if you don't like it?

I'm thumbing UP this thread and definitely buying this when it comes out

Since insurance generally is a money purchase arrangement, having a higher rate per dollar coverage for iPhone is a pricing choice not a risk based choice. They are targeting iPhone buyers as premium price and lower price discrimination buyers.

One hopes after a year of experience (and price gouging), they normalize pricing.

No wonder fully 10% of AT&T buyers consider the lack of viable insurance options a primary issue. First you couldn't get damage coverage at all, now you can only get it at steep pricing.

Are they expecting adverse selection?

There are different levels of MasterCards. The benefits are dependent on the issuer.

My credit card is a "World Elite" class card from Citi (Premier Pass brand) and that has these benefits.

With the amount that people are putting on their credit card, anytime anything breaks, your CC should be your first source of insurance coverage. You'd be surprised what is covered.

Buy something and you end up not liking it and the retailer won't let you return it? Look at MC's Satisfaction Guarantee

Buy a shirt from Macy's and spill coffee on it the first time you wear it? Look at the Purchase Assurance Program

Bought a iPhone last week and now Walmart is offering it for cheaper? Look at the Price Protection Program

Don't pay for AAA or rental car's roadside assistance when your Mastercard has Roadside Assistance Benefit

You fly to Vegas and your luggage is delayed by a day? Buy a change of toothbrush, razor, hair gel, underwear, change of clothes and have Mastercard pay for it.

Awesome! thanks:) I have been researching mine. Easy to forget about those benfits

Insurance

This is crazy considering if you were to purchase the phone from Best Buy instead of At&T directly they offer the same coverage for "accidental" damage for $5 a month with no addtional charges other than purchasing another protection plan for the replaced phone.

I've used Asurion before. I'm not going to lie, the process is pretty easy. Somerthing happens to your phone (the screen on mine died), called up asurion, they'll start a case on the website. You pay the deductible and they send you a phone, then you put the broken one back in the box.

The prices are a little (ok alot) outrageous but the service isn't too bad.

The iPhone I'm using to post this with is a replacement. My old phone was inoperable after being dropped in water. The price to pay is $199 for a replacement.

Hmmm....the genius at the Apple store must have felt sorry for you:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3302

Summary

If an iPhone or iPod has been damaged by liquid (for example, coffee or a soft drink), the service is not covered by the Apple one (1) year limited warranty or an AppleCare Protection Plan (APP). iPhone models and iPod models that were built after 2006 have built-in Liquid Contact Indicators that will show (as described below) whether the device has been in contact with water or a liquid containing water.

Applecare doesn't cover liquid damage

Ahhh, that's expensive!!! I have rental insurance with $30k in personal property coverage for about that much yearly (aside from the higher deductable)!

Or you could get a rider on your rental/home insurance and pay like $36 a year to cover the phone with a $25 deductible.

over 2 years:

$97 if NO replacement is needed
$699 if you Do need a new phone

If that is worth it depends on how and where you use your phone. For me it is, but for some it wouldn't be. Either way it's MUCH cheaper than this crap at&t or best buy is peddling!

Not too bad as it breaks down to about $2.69 a month.

They will still replace it for the $199, as he described. They offered to do that when I had my screen cracked... I said "no thank you" and had the screen replaced myself by a 3rd party for $60.

The $199 replacement is their standard for out-of-warranty repairs.

I don't think insurance companies want you to know this, but you can add your iphone or ipad onto your homeowners or renters insurance.

That's good to know. When I first saw this I thought "My wife's diamond ring is insured for $4 month" and it's worth A LOT more than an iPhone.

This is really outrageous. You are STUPID if you buy this product.
