ATT is hands down the worst company in the world.
An evil empire.
What kind of scoundrels blatantly do this kind of thing, one would have to be insane to buy into this!

They are trying to be like the credit card companies. They take $14 from your pocket every month, you get nothing for it, and they spend the $14 times thousands of people on excessive wealth while people's lives are destroyed and people starve. Same thing with BP Oil executives. ....okay, I don't want to get started, but I could go on and on.

I'm all for people working hard for their money and having millions, but for these credit card companies and cell phone service providers, they just stick their hands in people's pockets and eat people's lunches. It's sad. I remember when my cell phone bill used to be $24.99 per month in the 1990s. Today, the "minimum required" is $39.99 per month. I only make about ten calls per month. The government needs to investigate this crap! I don't need FOUR BILLION MINUTES !!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

instead of having to pay it by electing this in the off chance it is stolen and possibly never need it, I would much rather spend the cost when I need to as chances are it won't and then that is money down the drain

But you're forgetting about everything else dukebound... Add the chance of dropping it in a beer or off the boat into a lake. Factor in the odds of your friend kicking it off the table, or the waiter knocking the phone off the table when he is setting down the fries and the phone slides 4 feet on the dock and PLOOP into the water (I literally saw that happen to an iPhone today).

Now I don't know about you DB but I tar care of my stuff and will not be needing it. I assume you and most other macrumors co ntributers take good care of their stuff too and also will not buy it. As it is a voluntary service, i would ask you and everyone not to complain... You don't need it and what did you expect from AT&******

blindsighted

This is pointless, if they give you the new one you won't be able to jailbreak it.

It covers theft. That might be a huge selling point right there.

I might even consider this, knowing a lot of people who have had iPhones stolen.

And so does american express, for 90 days free when you buy with an Amex card.

Between 90 and 360 days, there are 270 days

If you lose your iPhone once, you've paid for a new one regardless.

If you never lose it, you've paid for another one through your premiums

If you lose 2 or more iPhones in that 270 day time period, you've got more important problems to worry about.

The iPhone enables me to do so much and saves me tons of aggravation and probably brings me about $3000 worth of utils each year. I get a new one every year, if I lose one past 90 days, I'll just chalk up the cost of a new one as a cost of living.

I also keep a special savings account as my "insurance fund" for a replacement iPhone. I've been "paying" that account $20 a month for years now, it has plenty of funds now, never had to use it.

Please don't go on and on, no one knows WTF you are talking about. They don't take anything, you'd be electing to pay them to cover accidental damage and theft. Not required.

Then get a pay as you go phone. I know, complicated right?

i

I am on my 6th iPhone right now (Enter ur fanboy joke right here) 1st got stolen, 2nd got water damaged, 3rd got physical damaged and last two I lost and I still would not buy this insurance.

But I still will not complain. It is free economy. They can charge 500 a month for insurance plus 1000 dollar deductible. People who dont like the pricing, please dont buy. They are not forcing you.

You Americans seriously get raped by your phone companies! I'm still shocked you have to pay to receive a text message! If they tried that over here everyone would "kick off".
I've got a silver account with my bank which gives me full cover against my iPhone and loads of other little features like breakdown service with the AA etc, first two months £3, after that £7.95.

Even our phone contracts are much more generous, for £45 a month I got a free iPhone, 1200 mins, unlimited email and Internet, and unlimited texts, why do your companies feel they can treat you all that way?

RAC cover is £8 for the year, insurance/extra warranty/extra goodies/etc are often free with credit card purchases.

For £8.50 a month I get a 'free sim card', 1200 minutes and unlimited texts on a 12month contract (which I think is expensive compared to what I've been able to get in the past) - There's always going to be people that don't shop around to suit their needs and subsidize others (not that I have any experience of US phone contracts).

Denver/Boulder Mac Repair

I called Denver Mac Repair and they can fix all of those problems for less than the annual cost of this insurance.

iPhone glass = $100
iPhone LCD = $100
iPhone glass & LCD = $160
iPhone liquid damage = $90 + parts (usually about $20-40)
iPhone battery upgrade = $80

Any of these repairs would cost you less than the premium, let alone the deductible.

Squaretrade. That is all.

That's what I use for my iPad. :D this insurance is a rip off. Go squaretrade everyone!!

Never Tried SquareTrade but their quote was 2 years for 129.00 and a 50$ Accidental Damage deductable

They regularly put 30% or more coupons out there. You just have to watch slickdeals or get on their email list and one should pop up within the warrantable period after you buy your phone. At the very least you can almost always find a 20% off coupon by googling.

Go squaretrade everyone!!

From their website, it looks like they'll replace your iPhone with a completely new type:

who cares? i mean, really? why waste your breath whining about this news...

Facts: If you lose your iPhone, you're going to pay several hundred dollars (possibly as much as $600) for a replacement, if you seek that. If this concerns you, then ANY other option that's cheaper is a gift to you...

Furthermore, who cares? We haven't had this for 3 years and it hasn't yet mattered. The big news here is the date. June 6th? Yet more definitive evidence that iPhone HD is released on June 7th.

Way to Expensive

My homeowners insurance for a $130,000 house is about the same cost. What a rip off. Now, how about if you pay the iPhone insurance and never use it... you should get a new iPhone for free after 2-3 years with your new contract.

You're paying $168 per year for homeowners insurance?? You must have like a $10,000 deductible or something. I shopped around heavily for my homeowners and no one could go below $850 to $900 and that was pretty sparse coverage. I have a $1000 deductible as it is.

I won't get into the obvious political debate that your post inspires but being that you are iphones4evry1, perhaps you would be happy if the $14 a month would go into a fund to do just that? We could all chip in to buy iPhones for everyone who cannot afford one and while we're at it subsidize your bill to the rate you paid in the 90's.

Consider too that if you only make 10 calls a month (really?) maybe an iPhone with talk and data is overkill for you. AT&T has a pay as you go plan for $.25 a minute and free nationwide LD. You could talk for about 100 minutes and pay right at $25.

There is also a plan for $3.00 a day on the days you make calls with unlimited minutes. If you don't make calls, no bill. If you make all 10 of your calls the same day, you'll only pay $3.00 +tax. (Talk for 24 hours straight and your average rate drops to $.0008 per minute.)

I'm just here to help.:):):):)
