The 1GB over 3 months makes a ton of sense for me.

all those who call it rediculous need to realize just because it doesnt make sense for you, doesn't mean it doesnt for other people.

I work two jobs. At the first one we dont have wifi but its a desk job. The second one I have to send contracts to buyers / sellers. The business is infrequent, so I dont need a monthly data plan. When I do need to send them, they are time sensitive, so waiting till I get back home isn't an option. For $100 a year, I say sign me up.

The $25 for 3 months and 1GB doesnt seem bad.

I don't own an ipad but will be getting one of the new ones. seeing as i spend 50+ hours at work a week where there is wifi, and wifi at home, i think this will cover the weekends when i'm out and about. Not to mention the thousands of places that have wifi free for customers, starbucks, restaurants, bars... etc etc.

Is it great, no, better, YES!

This will be a good fit when I'm going on a day trip with a friend and want her to look up some things to do, or where to eat while I'm driving. It killer to get the $30 plan that lasts a month when I'm going to be away from home a total of like 18 hours....

I kinda wish that was 500mb, or a 3 day pass. But this will really save money and make me reach for my ipad when I'm jumping in the car MUCH more then the previous options.

These are options now on the iPad too, right?

lots of other things to do with that other than watch movies

Which doesn't make the cost any less exorbitant or the comparison any less valid. A single day of service AND a cap of 250MB on that single day for $5 is absurd.

att can suck a ****. i quit those bitches ages ago. not once have i thought about going back. they blow. don't use their service and capitalism will take care of the rest...or not.

This is ridiculous. In Portugal my dad got an iPad Mini 16GB Cellular model for 250€ and pays a monthly fee of 25€ and gets 3GB a month.

Who ever thinks this is a deal is an idiot. You should be able to use your data how you choose tethering or not. Its nickel and diming and that is all.

I already pay $145 for 2 iphones, 550 min, unlimited text, and 2GB and unlimited internet. And they are getting rid of these plans! Customers love paying 160+ for the same thing I am getting minus the unlimited internet. What a deal!

You think $36 upgrade fees are a deal too? You are already paying the monthly service charges and they need $36 so you can sign another 2 year contract?

Can't wait until I can jailbreak my iPhone 5S and activate the free tethering again.

Obviously they are encouraging you to watch your movies over wifi. The wireless cellular network is sufficiently expensive and new they do need capital recovery. So rather than complain about the price, knowing it is high, I like the fact I can buy a "bucket" of data and have it not expire every month. I would like to see them sell it by the GB without a time limit, or a long one like a year. That way if I want to watch a movie over cellular and am perfectly willing to pay for it, I can do that when I want, but to just check email, do some mobile maps and browsing, the data I buy does not expire unused after a month or a quarter. This is one step in that direction.

When Verizon copies this I will purchase it for 5 pads.

Well, $5/day for 250MB isn't aimed at those that are looking for monthly subscription. It's for those that need cellular on few occassions.

AT&T offers no contract plan at $15/month (250MB), $30/month (3GB), and $50/month (5GB). And as $10/month add-on for those on expensive Mobile Share plan.

Having said that, I think $25 for 3 months (1GB), which adds up to $100/year (4GB), is interesting for those on Wi-Fi most of the time.

I feel so sorry for you (Americans) guys!

Here in UK I pay £15/MONTH (Not day) for all I can "eat" data. I love you Three!

250MB $5... are they serious?!

How much do you pay for your Smartphone?

Mobile phones in the U.S. have historically been subsidized and this subsidy is reflected in the pricing structure of cellular service. AT&T is slowly coming to realize that they aren't subsidizing the tablets and this new pricing structure is the first to reflect that.

How good is the 4G LTE service in the UK and across Europe?

Whoever thinks this deal might not be good for some is an idiot. See what I did there? What about those that don't already have phone data plans and would use very little data on a tablet? Or use it heavier sometimes and not so much other times? Drives me crazy those that call anyone else stupid just because they might have different wants or needs. Think outside your extremely small and narrow viewpoint.

That's US$34 at the current exchange rate. AT&T charges US$30 for 3GB per month if you want that.

For someone like me who uses less than 200 mb of data monthly the $25/3 month plan is perfect. The only question I have is whether there is an activation fee or not.

There isn't. The new passes can already be activated directly in the iPad settings just like the older ones. There have never been any additional fees for those, and they are contract-free. It's actually very convenient. It seems though that there is no automatic renewal option for the new passes, so you may have to renew manually every 3 months.

I've got to wonder if AT&T has gotten wind of how T-mobile may be intending to price access and is "preacting" to it? Nice to finally see some competition in the market.

Thank you all you europeans for chiming in and telling me how awesome service is in your country which is the size of one of our states. Unlike your carriers, our carriers cover us coast to coast, border to border. Not that I agree with it, that's just what we get. Your cost in a ratio for service offered over size of coverage I'm thinking is probably actually more than ours in the US. Again, not that I need.. oh I don't know 95% of the coverage available to me. I'd be more than happy to pay 75% less for only 10% of the coverage offered.

Well, your Portugal is the equivalent size to Maine. One of our 50 states.. and it's not even all that big to begin with. So it's not apple to apples. Your carrier, in your country... vs our carrier in our country. Size & coverage couldn't be move obviously different.

This is wonderful and just what I needed so I can GPS a route on my iPad instead of the smaller iphone on occasional day trips. YAY!

If you buy TomTom, the maps are downloaded into your device and you wouldn't need a data plan.

Verizon needs to follow suit and needs to make all data for the iPad roll over for three or six months for only $5 more than their current rates.

I would purchase cellular data for the iPad from Verizon more often if I knew I wasn't going to have to try to go out of my way to use even 1 GB of data in a single month.

If I'm going somewhere where I'll only need cellular data on the iPad for one weekend a month for three months, it's a tough sell for me to justify spending $20 each of those months so I'll likely just "rough it" with Wi-Fi on the iPad or tether the iPad to my iPhone Share Everything Plan.

However, I would pay $25 for 1 GB of data or $35 for 2 GB of data if I knew I had either three or six months to use it. It's a win-win -- Verizon gets more of my money for the same amount of data; and at the end of the day, I get more time to use the data I'm paying for so I feel better because I'm less likely to be paying for data I'm not using.

I'm re-thinking whether I should get a new iPhone now or instead change to a cellular iPad + dumb phone.

I like it! The recurring $30 Verizon plan is killing me considering I hardly use it. $25 for 3 months sounds good

"We really think that a Wi-Fi only tablet is good, but it is not good enough," said AT&T senior VP Chris Penrose, speaking at the event. The cost of adding a cellular module to tablets is also going down, Penrose said.

"We've seen that price go down substantially over the past several years," Penrose said. "Ultimately we'd like to see tablet manufacturers build just one tablet."

This guy is calling out Apple. He's basically saying that we're getting ripped off by Apple still charging us a $130 premium in 2013 for the cellular module.

I may not like AT&T or its business tactics (he obviously wants more cellular devices in the market), but he's right. Still charging $130 for the cellular module and $100 for each GB capacity upgrade is a crime IMO.
