It's really generous of AT&T to waive Early term fees considering that anyone who still has this plan would be years (like at least 5) past having to pay them since changing your contract would void the unlimited plan. So generous of you AT&T.
They (AT&T and Verizon) did throttle them, and got a nasty letter from the FCC. By the time the letter arrived, Verizon had done something to thwart the letter, and AT&T quietly changed the throttling to "we'll do it when we're busy at those towers". I saw this in Skagway, AK, when the cruise ship docked, and I got on the network early, downloaded all my e-mail, and then was unable to surf the net while the other 9,999 people were on their cell phones in the town of 600 people. My wife's cell phone had no issues, as she was under her cap, but I was way over the 5GB limit.Imagine believing this.
Capped data started because AT&T and Verizon realized there was a growing demand for data and that with a flat rate all you can eat model, they weren't gaining additional profit for that demand.
If it were about abuse of the network then they would be throttling their tiered plans rather than charging overages. Follow the money and you'll always get the answer as to why.
Can they add tethering for the increase in price?
The termination fees renew at every cell phone purchase, so if you're still packing that 3GS, then yes, your point would apply. It's really generous of AT&T to waive Early term fees considering that anyone who still has this plan would be years (like at least 5) past having to pay them since changing your contract would void the unlimited plan. What are you talking about, most customers that have and unlimited plan are probably still under a contract. A number of the including my self just signed a new one to get a subsidy on the 6s.It's really generous of AT&T to waive Early term fees considering that anyone who still has this plan would be years (like at least 5) past having to pay them since changing your contract would void the unlimited plan. I wish, but I seriously doubt it. Unless it happens, I'm going to switch to T-Mobile. My wife did a couple of months ago and I haven't heard a single complaint from her.So will AT&T finally allow tethering and other functions with their "unlimited" data?
It's funny how $5.00 doesn't seem like a big revenue grab until you see the money that Cards against humanity made on their give us $5 for nothing deal. They got 80K without blinking in ppl just giving them $5. AT&T will increase their revenues by much higher than that a month. Probably a mil or so. It's sickening to see that fat cat smoking his cigar and charging 750 for a pill er upping customers bills by $5 a month. It's funny how we tolerate such greed...
GREEDY are the people who abused this in the first place and caused all this.
I'm thinking it is a good way to get out of my contract 7 months early.
If the plan launched in July of 2007 and the throttling didn't start until October of 2011, isn't that a little over four years where the plan remain unchanged? For an unlimited plan that was never really unlimited. For all the sneaky practices by AT&T and lies told about throttling.
Unlike Verizon, AT&T still lets you keep unlimited data if you buy a phone on contract. It's really generous of AT&T to waive Early term fees considering that anyone who still has this plan would be years (like at least 5) past having to pay them since changing your contract would void the unlimited plan. Yeah....if it's worth losing your phone number for. The only way to end a contract is to terminate it, which terminates the line along with the contract.
Price goes up $5 for the first time since iPhone 3G... And people are gonna complain. America is great.
This is nowhere near the levels of evil that is Verizon.
Yes they can. The grandfathering rules apply only to voice plans. Data is an add-on. If they want to they can force us all off unlimited data but they have done the minimum to avoid angering all of us. It's been carrots more than sticks. Given that Verizon now charges $50 I'm OK with $35 for now. They can't do this
Yes, the phone. But not your phone number. So I can get out of my iPhone 6s contract for free and keep the phone?
You can keep your number. It's called porting.Yes, the phone. But not your phone number.

Nice sentiment. Evil is everywhere, and it's not att.Capped data plans started because of people who abused the unlimited service in the past.
Hike it up more so they suffer like the rest of us.
Only one comment :
Greedy bastards !!!
Let this $5 stuck in their throats !

Strange that you neglect to mention the cost of your new plan. How can you possibly be saving $30 a month unless you have NO data plan. Sounds like the kind of underhanded and deceitful actions people accuse att of.So will AT&T finally allow tethering and other functions with their "unlimited" data? I'm glad I gave mine up for the Shared plans. I'm saving $30 a month and have more data than I need.
