Anyone recall when several carriers were doing something similar for the iPhone 7 (IIRC) launch? I remember trading in several iPhones in order to get all of my family members free iPhone 7s (I think $100 more for my 128 GB model).

Verizon announced their trade in after the other carriers. They paid out the credit over 24 months.

Wondering if Verizon might do that again this year? Would be sweet, but my XS has a broken back glass so probably won't be able to do it with that one.

Yep, it was all the US carriers and it was an iPhone 7 for free (2 years of credits) if you traded in an iPhone 6 or newer. Sprint and AT&T also accepted Galaxies.

I traded in my work’s iPhone 6S, used my personal 5 for work after that, and kept the 7.

Will AT&T accept old phones to be traded in that only work on other networks?
Or does it have to be a phone that is unlocked or locked to AT&T?
For instance if I have an iPhone 8 that is locked to Verizon or T-Mobile will AT&T accept it for trade-in?

Don’t lie on the trade-in calculator.
Guaranteed disappointment.
Do the repair first or take it in to a corporate store and get their opinion first but make sure you leave yourself enough time to get the repair done if they say you need to before the deadline.

I wasn’t going to lie on the trade-in calculator. I plan on taking it to the Best Buy Geek Squad - Authorized Apple Service Provider for an assessment. Hopefully it’s just the $149 screen replacement that they mentioned over the phone. Even if it’s more, is it worthwhile to fix for the max $800 billing credits?

I even traded it an iPhone 5 I had laying around for a credit. Didn't cover the full price of the 7, but was definitely a better price than selling directly online.

If you’re going to stick with the 12 for 30 months I’d say it’s worth it.

That is the plan or hand it down to a family member.

If I had to shell out $349 for the Apple Other iPhone repairs, Other damage (out of warranty), then it may be questionable to go through with the repair.

Tried calling loyalty to see what else available. Only gave this. Can be good deal but not for everyone.
Pretty lame attempt to potentially save me from switching.

Also if we trade it in at a ATT store , will we get confirmation that the value is $700?

I checked with Loyalty this morning and was told there isn't anything other than this deal in the system yet. The rep said that this promo is running at least 15-30 days, so check back in a couple of weeks.

To be fair, it’s actually an amazing deal. More than half off the new iPhone on launch day. And it’s available to existing customers without having to start a new line or anything. Obviously there are hoops to jump through to get it, but I don’t think there has ever been anything even close to this on iPhone launch day.

What more would you be looking for? They’re giving away a lot here, so they want a 30 month commitment. I don’t like it either, but I understand why they are doing it. If they gave everyone an $800 credit for a phone that was bought outright and then half the people left ATT two months later they would go bankrupt.

Agree, more than we have seen in some time. Somewhat carrier wars with Apple devices.
Mostly think should be no more 24 months and include upgrade option after 12 months without having to pay $5 monthly dollar ’surcharge’ to be allowed. Would feel less restraining even though not really stuck or on contract for 30 months.

If I would payoff device and still have account do the credit still keep coming for the full 30 months?

Got address changed to mine from my family's, just in the nick of time because my status changed from processing to preparing to ship :D glad I tried again with live chat, because earlier they said can take a few days and I was worried about that and the processing aspect going quick.

I will get it Friday,

128GB Pro Pacific Blue

trying my luck with a good looking 8 unlocked I got too for $210 shipped or so on ebay, to hold onto my SE 2 / sell it later if I feel like it or when a new JB comes along. But probably will keep it as a backup / beta or jb device. SE1 is becoming a bit long in the tooth for that even though 14.0 runs alright on it imo.

How does this work if the installment plan is only 24 months? If you want a new iPhone in 24 months, your installment plan would technically be finished in 24 months. Shouldn't you still be eligible for the last 6 months of credits if you upgrade in 24 months with a PAID OFF installment plan? Does ATT expect you to go two years on this iphone, installment plan completed in 24 months and they want you to still keep the phone and not upgrade for an additional six months to get those last six months of credits?
My experience is at changes the credits to be 24 months ($800/24). You will get a larger credit each month but also pay $5 extra each month for the up next option.

Unfortunately not. As soon as the device is paid off the credits stop.
This might not be true. I paid off a device 2 months early when I remembered that I had $29 credits coming in for that device. The next 2 months I still received those $29 credits. I’m not saying this will happen each time but in my experience I still got the credits.

Congrats! I get my Silver 128GB between 28th and 30th here’s hoping it gets bumped up to come earlier.

The deal is only available on installment plans of 30 months, so your scenario of 24 months wouldn't work.

If you're like me and want to get a new phone in 24 months, even if you are on a 30 month plan, you can just pay off the remaining 6 months at that point in time an forfeit 6 months worth of credits. It's still a great deal even if you get $640 in credits and not $800.
It doesn’t say the offer isn’t available on the 24 month plan just that you will receive 30 payment credits of $800 total. In my experience at adjusts the credits to which ever plan you choose. I’ve always chosen the 24 month plan even if at says the credits are for 30 month plans and have never not received my credits.

Don’t see how can select anything less than 30 months on AT&T installment

  • To get all the credits, the discounted device must remain on installment agreement and you must keep eligible service for entire installment term.
  • If you upgrade or pay up/off the installment agreement on the discounted device early, your credits may cease.

Yes and no. If they bring back the previously offered $450 off deal with a 24 month contract (no trade-in), then I would be tempted to go with that and sell my X outright.

Ok. Got my order thru the Apple app and selected ‘No’ on Trade in (as Apple said to do). But didn’t receive anything about turning my prior iPhone in and what the process is. If I log into MyATT account, it just offers an upgrade if I purchase a new iPhone.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

You have to go to the att.com/tradein link and put in the promo code.
