Ok. Got my order thru the Apple app and selected ‘No’ on Trade in (as Apple said to do). But didn’t receive anything about turning my prior iPhone in and what the process is. If I log into MyATT account, it just offers an upgrade if I purchase a new iPhone.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Make sure to use TRADEINOFFER20 during checkout of trade in for the deal. :)

would this work with a $5 Next Up, or would you lose all the credits if you trade in before 30 months? I’d love to get this deal but don’t want to be force locked into 30 months of ownership

Hell ya you will lose all the credits. That’s the whole point of this offer is to keep people for 2.5 years. So I did this with my daughters line 2 years ago. I am still getting the credits, so I have to pay that off($100) to get this deal. But still worth it. If you upgrade every year this deal is not for you. Unless you just get a years worth of credits, pay off and do another deal next year. Assuming they even have one like this.

I think it applies to existing customers, no new line required. if you're on an unlimited plan, you should be good to go.

Here is the fine print most don’t know. You HAVE to have their top tier unlimited plan to qualify for the trade in. $75 one

So, this deal seemed too good to pass up in order to upgrade to a 12 Pro and trade in my 2-year old 128gb XR for $800. I am going for it. My big fear is giving up my 10-year old+ OG ATT unlimited plan for one of the new plans. I pay around $106/month now with a FAN discount. So the $75 or $85/mo new unlimited plans don’t really seem like I’ll be giving much of anything up? The only thing I don’t understand with the advertisements for the new tiered unlimited plans is when they say “stream in SD” or “stream in HD.” On my plan now, on YouTube for example, I just pick what resolution I want to watch in. On a lower tier new unlimited plan, can they block you from choosing max resolution? As long as going to a newer ATT plan and letting go of a “lifetime” ATT legacy plan isn’t going to hurt me, I think this new offer on one of the new iPhones seems good (but worried it’s too good to be true and ATT is hiding something?). Thanks for any insight. Hoping that a 256gb Pacific Blue 12 Pro for me on one of these new plans is a good choice!

Don’t see how can select anything less than 30 months on AT&T installment
Yes I see. I did some research and misread what att up next is. Last time I upgraded it was different but now it’s $5 just to be able to upgrade earlier which I don’t want. And the $5 a month doesn’t go towards paying the device. I will call att after I receive my iPhone and see if I can cancel that option, if not that iPhone is being returned and I will order another one without that option. Thank you for pointing this out!

UPDATE: If you did the same things as me and got the AT&T Next Up for $5 a month you can cancel within 14 days of receiving your new iPhone. Online you just need to login to your AT&T account manage your installment agreement and there's a button to cancel AT&T Next Up plan.

Only if your a new customer. In the fine print it states you must activate on an unlimited plan (new customers must be $75 before discounts) something like that. Honestly if you have an older plan like I did it’s worth it to upgrade to the new ones. I saved $40 a month by doing this. Also if you have an older plan and want to keep it I would call once you get your iPhone before you do the trade in an confirm your plan counts.

In the fine print it just says you need an unlimited plan doesn’t specify which ones. I would call or chat to confirm your plan is fine. As about the video streaming they can only allow streaming of 480p through the network so even if you select 1080p it will only stream 480p as far as I know. I just upgraded my plan to the elite with us streaming and by default they have the “stream saver” on which limits videos to 480p I have to go online to change this which is stupid because I pay for the higher plan just to get better video streaming lol

just a thought - If 2.5 years is overkill

I’d recommend doing it and getting the base 12

paying off 6 months early you lose roughly $150 in credits. 800 in credits for an 800 dollar phone was the initial deal

Effectively $150 net for a 64gb 12 with two years ain’t too shabby!

If you’re going to stick with the 12 for 30 months I’d say it’s worth it.

It is probably a better deal if you are part of a group plan on ATT. I'm currently on a MVNO with a paid in advance 1 year plan. More flexible than signing up for 30 months, and even with the credits my ATT bill as an individual line would be higher on average.

See that is the kind of sneaky thing I like to know about - thank you so much for telling me. Pay for HD, but limit it to 480 by default so you have to go to your account online and turn a selection off to be able to actually stream HD - shaking my head, haha. Hope I’ll pick the right plan for this deal. I’ll go into the store to talk to them, just want to be armed with info like this so I know going in.

Good luck and let us know what info they give you!

One of the questions on the ATT trade in questionaire is to provide the phone number and IMEI/Serial of the trade in device. I currently own a XS Max and will upgrade to Pro Max using the $800 credit. I also plan to purchase a used unlocked iphone 8 on ebay which will be used as the trade in. Then I sell the XS Max on Facebook marketplace. I assume I use the line # on my XS Max (soon to be ProMax) when completing the question on phone number even though that iphone 8 was never used on that line?

Anyone else get the email from Apple in regards to buying phone through ATT plan? They did confirm online or store drop off for your traded in device.

Yep just got it as well! Good confirmation - although it should have been a better process through Apple. The Verizon promo works by trading in directly to Apple and also verifies your plan. Less things to go wrong.

Why the heck don’t they just list the eligible AT&T data plans in the email? I am on the Unlimited & More (SM) $120/month for 4 lines plan. Does this one qualify?

Seriously! Why must one contact AT&T and deal with one of their highly qualified representatives 😂 I was told by them my Unlimited & More plan didn’t qualify, but I’m not so sure that’s true anymore.

Let’s hope it’s not true. I am going to contact them via phone or chat this afternoon and hopefully get to the bottom of this.

Where is the fine print or terms. On the trade in page or when enroll.

So you were told there separate times that the Unlimited & More plan didn’t qualify? If so, dang!
Yeah I was told by three separate AT&T representatives that it had to be the newer unlimited plans (Elite, Extra or Starter). Actually, the first time I called, the guy told me it had to be Elite or Extra only! They don’t know.

I just got off the AT&T chat:

“Yes, your plan is the Unlimited &More(SM), you can get the AT&T trade in deal.”

Yasss!

im sure it will be fine. if you're that worried about it, pop the SIM card into the iPhone 8 even if briefly if for no other reason than verifying functionality works

I think this is a good strategy!

Makes me wonder if iPhone 8 will be part of the deal by the time mini and max preorders roll around :p
