if trading in the device in store, you can still fill out the form on trade in.att.com to confirm its worth the qualified amount in advance right? with serial # , IMEI, and condition questions?

im assuming so.

I was looking at the 12 pro max, and trading in a X for $220 each, so that's a $1020.00 discount between the $220 trade in and the $800 for each line\phone?

I wasn't considering upgrading now, but for the discount I will be!

The $800 credit requires a phone trade in, so if you trade in the X then you will get $800 in credit. There is no additional $220 credit. They are basically just bumping up the value of the trade to $800.

You can’t add them together. The promo gives you $800 instead of $220 when trading in.

I think you may be confused as to how this offer works. You don't get $220 trade-in and $800 from the offer. You get $800, period (as long as your trade $95 or higher). This is the relevant part of the offer:
  • Up to $800 in bill credits with smartphone trade-in value of $95 or higher (Up to $350 with trade-in value of $35 to $94) applied in equal amounts over 30 monthly installments

Yeah if the screen were cracked I wouldn't even have to wonder, but its actually not and is still functional...its just detaching from the device now, I believe due to battery swelling.
If it was me, I'd trade-in IN PERSON at a corporate AT&T store so you'd know what you're getting before it leaves your hands.

Have you notified Apple?
I know the phone is off-warranty but that still seems weird to have a swollen battery on a <3-year old phone.
But to answer your question I would expect AT&T to reject it.

"Is the device otherwise free of breaks or cracks in the housing, keypad, hinge, or battery door?"
It would be hard to argue that a lifted screen isn't a crack in the housing.
Not crack like fracture but crack like leave the door open a crack.
;)
I've thought about notifying Apple though I don't know what the point would be.

Tell Apple it stated smoking and could fry egg. Might get their attention.

I would hope not but I’d be a bit
Worried this deal will dry up before mini and max release

or maybe if you’re second wave of deliveries after nov13, etc.

I anticipate this deal being huge

someone else in the thread said an att rep said the deal will last 15-30 days. Who knows if true though

They have a page for the Max stating the trade in promo will be $700. So it'll still be around when that launch happens.

I keep going back and forth on this. I really still like my XsMax. But the $700 in credits towards the 12 pro max seems too good to pass up. Been on ATT for over 10 years and always keep my iPhone for alt least 24 months.

Silly question but, what condition does the phone need to be in to get this deal?

If I send them my iPhone X, which has a swollen battery pushing the display off, what will they consider that?

I'm in the same boat. I'm curious if I can just... glue the screen down and trade it in in person. The screen is still fully functional with no other issues, cosmetic or otherwise.

yeah but who knows how long after pro max launches will it be available, is more what I meant

especially since it’s $700 for mini and max instead of $800 for 12 and 12 pro

Hah, well in my case the battery has swelled enough to literally make the screen bow if I try to force back into place, so....

They might fix it for free.
Or they might charge you but if the repair costs $100 and if the repaired phone then qualified for the $800 trade-in it would be worth it.
Yeah it may be worth at least contacting them about it and seeing what they suggest.

You should definitely call or go into an Apple store. I have an old iPhone 5 and the battery isn't swelling and still works great. Yours should not be swelling so soon.

No. I doubt they will (though anything is possible). But I don't live in an area where 5G is coming anytime soon so it's not an issue. To be honest I don't think it would be an issue if I lived in a 5G covered area either. I have no issues with 4G/LTE. I'm upgrading from an X so it's pretty big upgrade for me, even without 5G.
Also 4G LTE speeds are supposed to be better with this phone. So I think in 3-4 years when 5G really takes off it’ll matter more but now I don’t think so.

Doesn’t work that way. You only get the promotional value which for the pro max is only $700 each max. So you’d get a total of $1400 credits for both phones over 30 months. ($2198-$1400=$798 for both phones you’ll pay. Still a good deal! Plus taxes and other fees of course.

Currently have 2 payments left on my moms 8+ which is equivalent to $63.23. Its allowing to me take advantage of the trade in deal. Only asking for taxes on new iPhone 12 256GB. What about the remaining 2 months on the 8+....

I assume you mean the $220 Apple will offer as a trade in credit. You can’t trade your X into Apple and also your carrier to get the $800. You have to pick one.

You're eligible for an upgrade. That's not a surprise. But they're expecting you to send them the 8+ to cover the remainder of those payments. Pay it off, and then trade the phone in to AT&T through their trade in program to get the $800 credit deal.

I contacted them through support and they scheduled a repair/service appointment at the nearest Best Buy. They told me most likely if the battery is actually swollen as described they would replace the entire unit at no cost since it falls under one of their 'quality of service programs'.

So, I'm hopeful. Do they actually still have entire iPhone X units for replacement or did they move on to replacing with XS models?

Correct just paid off the balance and did pre order via Apple. Still able to take advantage on this deal. I’ll be trading in the 8 plus Sunday after I leave Apple to pick up her iPhone 12. Will pay with AT&T insurance $13.99 a month for 12 256GB. Not bad. I don’t plan on leaving AT&T anytime soon. In Miami AT&T service is king. 30 months means nothing to me. Also my mom usually keeps her phones 24-30 months.
