I contacted them through support and they scheduled a repair/service appointment at the nearest Best Buy. They told me most likely if the battery is actually swollen as described they would replace the entire unit at no cost since it falls under one of their 'quality of service programs'.

So, I'm hopeful. Do they actually still have entire iPhone X units for replacement or did they move on to replacing with XS models?

They'll probably have refurb X models to replace yours with. Let us know how that goes! I might do that instead of trying to rig my phone together. Haha

As soon as I mentioned "battery swelling" it put it into its own class of repair. It's not allowed to be shipped (for obvious reasons), even the repair techs at Best Buy are not allowed to ship it to Apple. So I think they will just open it up, verify it and document it for Apple, then a replacement/refurb will be provided or ordered.

They will replace it with a refurb model X.

However, I might try to schedule service at an apple store, rather than best buy. Or at least confirm exactly how the Best Buy service will work. I could be wrong about this, but it’s my understanding that all Best Buy will do is take your phone, put it in a box, and mail it to apple and you will be without the phone for several days while apple does their thing. If you take it to an Apple store they should be able to replace it with a refurb unit on the spot.

The way I understand it, as long as the value is at least $95 you'll get the $800 credit.
Yep but scratches can greatly reduce the value. For example, iPhone 8 with scratch, I think value drops to $35 or something

You are absolutely right. My 256gb X has a good chip in the screen and it drops the value to $110. That's a big hit.

The ATT trade in questions do not mention scratches at all. So as long as there aren't any scratches that are so bad that they could be considered chips, you should be fine.

"Screen should work properly, display all information clearly, and should not contain any dead spots or bruising. Any cracks, chips, lack of function, dead spots, or screen bruising should result in a NO answer for this question."

The offer says that you need to have at least aa $95 value after answering the phone condition questions at http://tradein.att.com, so you can go there and enter the information about your phone to see what it comes up with.

Yeah, I am thinking maybe I will take the phone into an ATT store and get it evaluated. The screen works perfectly, it has scratches and a small nick on the black border on the side.

So I paid for my 11 pro max ( 256 GB) in full last year ( bought it from the apple store). I am with At&T though if I decided to trade my 11 pro max in for a 12 pro max they would only give me credit in monthly bill instalments right. Not an upfront 700-800 dollar credit towards buying the phone straight up right?

Buy a used iPhone 8 for around $200 to trade in and sell your 11 Pro Max for around $850 (current going price on Swappa)

So what’s the rube if ATT decides not to give you the whole $700 in credits toward the 12 Pro Max? Will they send you back your phone? Can you then decide to purchase it with your Apple Card and sell you old phone privately?

Where is this another deal on http://tradein.att.com? I have iPhone 5S in excellent condition, I would prefer to trade it in for 350$ (or $800 which ever qualifies) and upgrade to iPhone 12.

According to the fine print your trade needs to have a value of $95 of higher after answering the device condition questions at http://tradein.att.com to get the full $800 credit. There is another deal where you can get a $350 credit if your device value is $35 or higher after answering the device condition questions.

You should definitely call or go into an Apple store. I have an old iPhone 5 and the battery isn't swelling and still works great. Yours should not be swelling so soon.

Go to www.att.com and click on “see full offer details” and read the fine print. It talks about both the $800 and the $350 deals. I believe that it’s essentially the same thing though. If you submit a phone that has a value of $95 or higher then you get the $800 in credits. If your phone is worth less then $95, but more than $35 then you get $350 in credits.

Won't matter as its being replaced by a 12 on Friday ;)

When I go to just trade-in 5S not as part of the offer, it shows $0. Is there a separate trade-in with the upgrade offer?
T-mobile is offering $230 for 5S with upgrade, but since I am on AT&T, I would prefer to keep it if they offer a good trade-in value.

as long as its not cracked or scratched to an obscene pulp, should be fine as well

this is again why it’s good to trade into a corporate location and get it documented and verified on the spot to avoid any mix ups

my unlocked gold 8 was supposed to come today but delayed ... maybe another day or two I’ll get it. Dang

It doesn’t look like a 5S is part of the offer at all. Even for the $350 credit offer it says that they want a 6S or newer.
