Well, it's on their web site (as you know), and I just spoke to AT&T on the phone to find out the cost difference to unlimited (I actually save money), and yep they are fully aware of the $800 upgrade promotion. Maybe the stores just didn't like you. Where you wearing your mask wrong? Showered?
Your trying to be funny or what? I did tell them its on their website. That even Apple has details on their website. I have no need to fight or argue with anyone. Nor do I have the time to drive around Miami looking for a corporate store to take in my trade. 38 father of 3 with a business. So believe me I know a thing or two about time and business. Mailed it in today. Packed it well. Got my receipt. Time will tell. Wish me luck.

I dropped my iPhone X off at an AT&T store on Saturday, the day after I received my 12. I was given two receipts but as of today I saw nothing from AT&T about receiving the trade. So I went on chat and it looks like all is well. The last trade I did with AT&T, by mail, they claimed they didn't receive, despite tracking showing they did. I had to fight to get that trade straightened out and didn't want to take a chance this time.Julian : Hi! My name is Julian. I'm happy to help! Let's get started.Me : I bought a new iPhone 12 with the $800 trade in offer. I took my iPhone X into an AT&T store for the trade-in and it was accepted with a value that gives the $800 (applied to monthly payments). I want to check the status of that trade. I have receipts but nothing shows on my account.
Julian : I can definitely help you clarify the charges on your bill today. Let me check about the $800 bill credits on your account
Julian : To get started may I please have your name and wireless number?
Me : I'm asking about the status of my traded in iPhone X. My phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx
Julian : Got it, let me check on the status of the trade in iPhone X
Julian : Can you pleae confirmn the date the phone was traded in?
Me : October 24, the day after I received my iPhone 12
Julian : Thank you
Me : I have a Device Trade-In Receipt
Julian : Does it show the value of the device in the receipt?
Me : Yes it does.
Me : $200
Julian : Thank you
Me : The trade in deal states anything traded in that is $95 or higher is eligible for the $800 promo
Me : so I wont to be certain Im getting the promo
Me : *want to be certain
Julian : Sure, I am confirming that for you.
Me : okay
Julian : Thank you.
Julian : I appreciate your time, I am able to see the account is notated with the trade in transaction on 10/24/2020, the $800 is divided in 30 so the new phone will receive a monthly credit of $26.67, the credits start applying in 2-3 bill cycles and the initial credit will be applied retroactively.
Me : So you could see that I will be getting the credits?
Me : I just want to be absolutely certain
Julian : Yes, that is correct
Me : ok great, thanks!
Julian : You are so welcome
Me : That is all I needed today. Have a great day!

I’ve sent iPhones back to AT&T a few times in the past and never had an issue getting credit, so I wouldn’t worry about it. Totally understand how frustrating it can be when store employees are in the dark on something that should be top of the list for them to know, especially during iPhone launch season. I’ll be sending my wife’s XR in once I get the 12 Pro Max, even though I would be tempted (like you were) to just drive over to one of my local stores to drop it off. But I’ll take your experience and trust UPS to deliver it instead.

Thank you for the mature and grown up response. You get what I mean. These forums quality responses have degraded throughout the years.

So here in Miami...called 2 local stores by my office and no luck. All said same crap. These people are either clueless or playing dumb. Regardless just came back from UPS. Decided to just ship it directly to AT&T. Wish me luck.
I called my closest AT&T corp store on Friday when I got my new phone, but I wasn't about to ask if they would take my trade. I only asked when their slowest time was the following day. I went in at that time, indeed the store was empty, and they took it without issue. I just confirmed via chat that is in their system to give the monthly credits to my account.

Regarding UPS: Did you get a return box from AT&T for your trade? I didn't think they'd be arriving so fast. If you didn't receive the return box, you didn't by chance use the mailing label that was in the new phone's box did you? (I doubt it, but just asking to be sure, as AT&T specifically says not to use that label.)

Used my own box. Printed label from email I received after submitting trade in.

We have a 35GB monthly cap so I don't actually worry about music streaming. The cap is generous enough that we don't need to upgrade but it would certainly be nice if I can just stream Netflix or something whenever I wanted.

I'm still debating whether that convenience is worth an extra $30-50 after tax per month ($360-600 per year) to upgrade the family plan to unlimited.
To be fair, the $30 extra option, presumably Starter Unlimited, is far more data than you have now. So it's the only appropriate comparison, unless you are receiving free HBO Max or Watch TV with your current account (highly unlikely).

Still, in your case I'd think a Black Friday offer or a BOGO would be better for you (though BOGOs often need a new line, they didn't require that for the $800 promo).

I use more than 15GB for hotspot so anything other than Unlimited Elite is not an option. Even then, I lose the iPad's ability to function as hotspot. There's also quality of service to consider. I'm in a fairly congested area so the network is pretty much always busy here (normally get below 10 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up). I don't want to imagine how much worse that would be if I'm getting throttled on top of that unless a less congested 5G network somehow makes up for it.

Right now, I'm paying $170 for service including taxes and fees. With Signature discount on Elite, base plan will go up to $180 and then there'll be taxes on top of that probably at higher rate than I'm paying now due to the different plan pricing structure. Currently, only $60 ($15 x 4) on my grandfathered plan is subject to the ~15-20% combined federal, state and local surcharges.

I dont remember if i asked this or not but does this $800 promotion work if I buy full retail? Or does Apple offer any trade in deal for the mini/max if I buy full retail?

The trade-in deal only applies if you keep service for 30 months. That’s the whole point of it. They want to tie you down.

I confused you with user bjluczyk, who said they only had an older 6GB per month shared plan. Disregard.

Thanks. Does it matter where I purchase the mini or max from? I think Verizon told me 60 days after but I cpuld be wrong. Im leaning towards getting whichever from Apple at their store. I miss that experience

Has anybody had any luck bringing the phone you upgraded from with the Next Up plan to a store? I tried to have them take my iPhone 11 Pro that I only paid 50% of to upgrade back at the store and he said he couldn’t do it. Just trying to see if it’s worth going back and trying again.

Unless I'm confused, it sounds like you're trying to trade in a phone you've only paid 50% on. If so, you'd have to pay the other half off and own the phone outright to qualify for this trade in deal.

You mean in terms of getting this promo? No of course that won't work. You can only trade in a paid off device.

Verizon? This thread is about the AT&T promo.

Just got the AT&T package in the mail to send in my trade in. It was a small 5x7 bubble mailer and a FedEx shipping label. That’s a joke. First off I’m not sending in a phone in a bubble mailer and using FedEx I’ve had nothing but problems with them shipping things. I’m just going to drop by an AT&T store tomorrow after I setup my 12 pro and trade in my iPhone 8. I just couldn’t believe AT&T sent me a bubble mailer to mail this phone back haha

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions as to which carrier's phones can be traded-in? I'm assuming they will accept phones that are locked to T-Mobile / Verizon, but what about some of the other players (XFinity, etc)?

Also, as long as the screen and back aren't cracked, they won't devalue my phone for scuffs/scratches/blemishes? What about dents in the frame?

Any anecdotal input would be appreciated, I'm trying to buy an iPhone 8 online to do the deal for the Max, and don't want to end up with a phone I can't trade in.

I would try to get one that doesn’t have dents. Scratches are ok but no cracks.

I would assume they won’t take any locked phones except their own.
How would they be able to verify that it wasn’t stolen or still under contract elsewhere?

You represent you are the sole and rightful owner of the Device, have paid off all amounts owed for the Device, are not trading in a lost or stolen Device, and the Device is free from any liens or claims by third parties.

If the phone is locked to another carrier how will you be able to verify since you’re the one responsible?

That seems like kind of a big catch, considering many people will be switching to ATT from other providers and trading in their phones, many of which will probably be carrier locked.

It’s you that’s responsible so if you’re coming from another carrier you would know if your phone is paid off or not.
If you’re buying a used phone just to trade in then you’d better be sure what you’re buying.

This is the reason I bought one unlocked. That way I know it’s paid off and not locked

Not saying you're wrong, just trying to work through it in my head.
Sites like Gazelle, etc... how do they know if a phone is still under financial obligations when someone sends one to them?
Besides that, I would assume plenty of phones out there are paid off and still carrier locked. AT&T themselves will not unlock it unless you submit a request.
