after 3 hours on hold i was finally able to talk to someone in the att trade in dept. i was able to cancel my trade so i could take it to the store instead of continuing to wait on shipping materials.

I was able to do this. You have to cancel the trade first over the phone. Option 1 (packaging / return label) will often not answer but you can also get through with option 5. You need to cancel the mail in trade to release your IMEI if you want to trade in store. The rep said I would still be eligible for the promotion in store and that after canceling the online trade it would work. Sure enough I took it to the store about an hour later and have a receipt for my phones showing the promotional value. The return packaging is extremely delayed and taking a little over 2 weeks. I actually just received the return packaging yesterday (12/16) for the online trade-in request that was made on 11/28. All they can do is send another return package that could take about as long which is why I asked what needed to be done to bring it to a store.
thanks thats what i did! option 5 did finally work!

so my receipt I got last week in store hasn't shown up when I check the online status.

I got an email today on the status of my online trade in request which I believe was initiated when I purchased the 12 Pro online. I can track that one which is a different number and says "device in transit to att"???? I didn't mail anything to them.

for those who traded in store, how long did it take to show up online and able to track it?

edit: called the local store. they confirmed it was shipped last week and delivered yesterday. unable to get a status after that as it doesn't update them anymore than that.

Took exactly 14 days to get my confirmation after acknowledgement of reciept. Now to wait on the bill to see credits. That iPhoneX had the busted camera lens glass that plagued that model and the Face ID sensor had gone bad and battery was at 70% life.

“AT&T Free Msg: Great news! Your device promotional credits are now being applied! To maintain eligibility and keep your credits going, be sure to keep a required unlimited plan, maintain your installment agreement, stay active & in good standing. If service is cancelled, device balances are due!

Got my text message about the bill credits last week and the credits were applied to my most recent bill. I traded in to a corporate store with no issues. Great deal!

I still haven’t received anything back from ATT on trading in my iPhone 8. I guess I’ll have to call them.

I got an email about my online trade in but of course haven't received the package to send it back in. when I check the status of that one, it shows up but hasn't moved since the 8th. when I track the one I did in store, it shows nothing found?

I think I'm just being paranoid about this whole situation.

how long did it take from the time of the trade to receiving the text approval?
About 2 weeks after I did the trade in a corporate store, I received the text, which was one day after I paid my bill, so it was about 3 weeks later when the credits showed up on my bill.

I got the 12 mini, traded in the X but my bill was still higher, minus the one time tax charge, activation, and monthly installment. Other fees and Taxes went up.
If and when the credit applies, my bill should have remain the same but it won’t.
I returned everything, went to the Apple store and got me my phone for full price. No trade in or anything. Att credit me back everything including all their weird fees and taxes. I am not paying more “monthly” for many years to come. Rather pay upfront for a phone and not deal with high bills.

Did you get an email for some reason I got an email like a bill of sale but for 0 dollars

Spoke to ATT yesterday, they said things are moving slower on their end and that the return shipping package should arrive early 2021 and extended my trade in window to accommodate the delay.

No. I only got the text message below on December 7th, about 2 weeks after I dropped off my XS Max at the corporate store near me. I was given a paper printout from the store (it said $350 value, and then the promo code for the $700 in credits on the line below that). I ordered my Pro Max from Apple and did not complete a trade in form online, because I heard that some people who did were not being allowed to do the trade in at the AT&T store; they had to mail it in.

“AT&T Free Msg: Great news! Your device promotional credits are now being applied! did you ever cancel the online trade request even when you went into the store?
