Awesome, thanks. I did a dummy booking on an 11 via the AT&T website and it now allows you to do the $5 upcharge with the $800 offer.

It's a bit of a gamble for me since I owe $256 on my XS Max that I need to pay in full, but it may be worth the risk.

No credits I read as no credits. You don't get any thing if you go Next Up because you already are trading the phone in.

Would you guys be willing to trade an SE 2 for $800 off over 30 months?

The deal sounds sweet, I am hesitant to trade in that device though even though its like double MSRP

Thank’s. I tried calling aging to get a concert answer weather my plan and XsMax would be eligible for the $700 monthly credit towards the 12 Pro Max. Could not get a firm answer. But my grandfathered unlimited family plan does not work for 5G So I “upgraded“ my iPhone to the Unlimited elite, and my 5 family plan to the unlimited starter. Still have HBO MAX and Unlimited data. Would up saving $15 per month

Another question...

Does anyone know if the trade in device has to be on AT&T’s network? Or can it be from t-mobile, Verizon etc.?

Back when ATT had the “free“ iphone 7 with trade promo, it took me the better part of 9 months to get it straight since 5 people on my plan took advantage of it. Ended up just getting a few 650 dollar credits since the reps couldn’t figure to have all the credits applied correctly... I swore to never take advantage of another promo like that again after going 1500 rounds with them....

Pretty much same thing happened to us, but through Sprint. My husband traded in his iPhone 6+ to get the 7 for free, with the payments/“credits” spread out over 24 months. The billing got messed up a few months or so after the initial ”credits” started to be applied, and we had a couple long chats with Sprint customer service to straighten everything out. While we did end up getting the 7 for free with the trade in after everything was said and done, we were essentially locked into Sprint for 24 months and if we wanted to upgrade anytime before the 24 months were over (or switch carriers) we’d have to forfeit the credits and pay up whatever amount would have been left over.

But I’d have to admit, the ATT $800 credit IS a great deal IF you don’t mind being locked in for 30 months.

AT&T quoted me in store and online one price and when my trade-in credit arrived it was half of what they quoted me. I spent multiple hours trying to get the other half but always ended up at a dead end. I finally decided my time and sanity was worth more so I gave up. My trade in was via mail with AT&T...
That is the case with any carrier. Apple’s third party service is bad about underpaying the official online Apple quote. That is why when I trade-in, I do it at the store for instant credit and it is always the exact price as the website.

I think I'll likely bring the old iPhones into the local AT&T store to process the trade-in instead of sending via mail. In my experiences of working there, it was the store that became liable for how much the device was worth etc. We'd get monthly reports back from the trade-in partner judging us on how we rated each trade-in. Occasionally we'd have employees lying on behalf of customer and claiming there was no cracked screen, etc, in order to get the customer more money. This hurt the store's audit, and not the customer.

The important part will be to make sure the correct phone number is used for each trade-in, and that the promo code is added by the store employee.

(Any current employees can correct me if my info is outdated, but this is how it worked several years ago when I was a store manager.)

This exactly. The line with the iPhone XR kept the 6+ for 4 years before upgrading and would likely be keeping the XR just as long if we don't go for this deal.

does att still offer the Next plan for 24 months instead of 30? Fine print says “Other installment options may be available and credit will be applied in equal amounts over the term of the installment.” So in theory someone could use the 24 plan and pay the $5 a month for the upgrade at 50% paid mark and upgrade in a year?

I had a bad experience sending in my last phone to ATT. They use USPS, and it takes months for them to get it, as they use some kind of intermediate warehouse to store them. They lost it, and I had to use my own tracking info to verify they actually received it, as they kept telling me they hadn't, according to their tracking. A nightmare. 10 calls, hours wasted over 5 months.

But you should be good :)
yes us two this was the third time. the phones are picked up by newgen and that's where the problems start. only 10 calls feel lucky we finanly had to resort to getting hostile then we got a customer loyalty rep and she got the refund happening still took two weeks. we vowed never do that again. we paid off our phones to get off the program.

do you guys think the phone has to get shipped to the account billing address?

or can be shipped anywhere ?

Man I’m still torn about this. More than i should be, considering a 12 Pro for $199 after trading SE2 seems really good

but i dont hate my SE 2

Currently have an XS and two 8+'s all paid up on AT&T. Can we all trade in our devices and each get the $800 credit? Seems like yes, but want to confirm. All part of the same family plan with the new Unlimited plans.

From what I understand, yes.

We are in a similar situation... one iPhone 11, two 8+’s and one 8 that I’m looking at trading in.

Yep - but it is $800 worth of bill credits over 30 months. $26.67 per month off each line as long as you keep the installment plan on there. If, for example, you decide you want a new iPhone in 24 months, you would forfeit 6 months * $26.67 of credits.

True. Still better then the prevailing trade in from Apple etc

I'm with ATT, but do not have an unlimited plan.
I'm not sure what to make of this condition:

When I go to upgrade to an unlimited plan, the highest cost pre-discounted plan they offer me is only $70. Therefore, I could not possibly qualify for this promotion.

Also a little odd that they’re giving $800 on the 12 and $700 on the 12 Pro? Maybe it speaks to the demand expectations?

Where does it say $700 for the 12 Pro??

I think he meant to say Pro Max. The Max and Mini models which are to be released in November only qualify for $700 for reasons unknown.

I think it has more to do with incentivizing people to buy what is available now, though, and not related to supply/demand.

Stand corrected.
