What if I get a new phone within 30 months and swap out sim cards do I forfeit credit? I don’t understand how this works.

You can do that, with a number of caveats. As long as you keep the phone number active ATT will continue charging you for the installment plan and continue giving you the credit. You don’t need to keep that same phone associated with that number, so you could buy a new phone and swap the sim into the new phone.

If you cancel the number, though, the credits will stop and you will be required to pay off the balance of the installment plan immediately.

Additionally you will not be able to use that number to buy another phone under an installment plan until the first plan is paid off (either by paying it early and forfeiting the credit, or waiting out the 30 months).

Finally, you may have trouble selling the phone. It will show up as being financed, so trade in companies and savvy buyers will not purchase it until the plan has been paid off. But if you want to give (or sell) the phone to a friend or family, then that’s definitely doable. The risk they take is that if you suddenly decide to stop paying on the phone then ATT could deactivate the phone even though you no longer owned the phone.

One more point. As I said above, the original number needs to stay active for the entire 30 months in order to get the whole credit, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be associated with a phone at all. You can call ATT and ask them to change it to a tablet line or a watch line so the service charge will only be $10/month.

I would still love to get confirmation that I’ll get $700 in monthly credits towards my purchase of a 12 pro max. I guess I’ll wait to go to an ATT store on launch day?

Why wouldn't you? That is the deal they are offering.

Nope i just saw this as well, its 800 for iPhone 8 or newer which is insane. I was going to resell my iPhone X for 300-400, so AT&T is throwing in 500 for "free" to either stay with them or move to them.

Thats one hell of a deal especially for iPhone 8 owners. This reminds me of the old days where carriers would subsidize costs of iPhones every two years.

There is almost zero reason for anyone with an 11 or below not to upgrade, since 800 credit is worth more than what the phones are currently worth...wonder if this will cause secondary markets for these phones to go way up in value.

Does the iPhone trade-in have to be paid off or can you still get that amount of cash value on an iPhoneyou still owe payments On?

Depends on whom you owe the payments to. If it's AT&T, then it most likely needs to be paid off.

Having never gone throug the iPhone pre-approval process, I've got a question about it. I've gone into the Apple Store app, selected my phone, and am planning to go via ATT's $800 offer. I get to the Apple Care option, make my selection, and then nothing happens. Since I'm going through AT&T, can I stiill do the pre-approval via the Apple Store app?

This seems like a steal, I use AT&T prepaid and pay $30/mo currently. Do I actually come out ahead if I switch to a higher-priced postpaid unlimited plan? I'm currently on a multiline account with a total of 4 people, and if we were all to switch to AT&T Unlimited Starter plan, it would be $35/mo each. Paying an extra $5 x 30 months = $150 in additional monthly fees, but get back $800 for the promo. Does AT&T just eat this cost to get people to stay on AT&T for 30 months?

Does anyone know if I would need to pay off my Citizens One installment plan loan before trading in to ATT? I have about half of the payments left and can pay off if needed, just wasn't sure if that was required before trading in.

From what I’ve gathered, you can only do the pre-approval/pre-save through Apple if you are using one of their methods to finance the phone (Apple Card installments or Upgrade every year plan). Otherwise you can only get to the Apple care part until the preorder goes live

Don't have experience doing it, but I'm in the same boat. It doesn't seem like you do according to the Terms of the IUP:

9. Trade in Outside of your Upgrade Option. You may decide to trade-in your Financed iPhone outside of the iPhone Upgrade Program for any reason (e.g., if the market value of your trade-in exceeds the outstanding balance on your Installment Loan). If you do so, you will still be responsible for any remaining balance on your Installment Loan to Bank and you will not be able to exercise the Upgrade Option as set forth above. You should also cancel the AppleCare+ Plan associated with the Financed iPhone by contacting AppleCare at: (800) 275-2273 after your trade-in.

To get the AT&T trade in do I need to pre order from their website...or do I per order through the Apple website?

Looking at the offer listing on the Apple Store app, it says that existing AT&T customers can sign up for the deal online, whereas new customers have to make their purchase at an Apple Store? Is that correct?

So, can I buy an SE for $200 tomorrow and trade it in for the 12 with $800 in bill credits?
Not the original SE, and I’m not sure you’ll find a 2nd gen SE for $200. I would suggest buying a used iPhone 8 on eBay for arounf $200.

I’m looking for the same info. I’m wanting to upgrade 3 lines from iphoneX to 12 pro. It’s been a long time since I’ve done the midnight pre order thing. Is it 3 separate transactions, and where do I go. I feel like such a noob lol.

$200 cash discount, no early payment penalty. You only need ~8 months to break even on the SE2.

Best bet, AT&T in-store.

This offer sounds good and is very tempting, but I have seen only horror stories about their trade in program. Phones mailed in and never received, or are claimed to be damaged and ineligible. Don’t want to wind up getting nothing for my phone in excellent condition. Has anyone actually done an AT&T trade in and had a good, smooth experience?

"Requires 30 months, 0% APR installment agreement,"

Seems like a bad deal at Walmart

I wonder if the deal changed from launch. Bc I definitely got it for$250, the 128gb and paid after a couple weeks and never dealt with any installments or penalty

I am happy with my $25 unlimited plan at Visible. Over 30 months, i will be paying $1500 less than ATT. So with $800 bill credit I would be spending $700 more at ATT over 30 months.
