this would let us upgrade. after spending months getting att to give us credit for returned phones we will never do the monthly payments. we spend 20 or more hours on the phone trying to get them to actually accept that they had our returned phones they even showed they were returned and they still charged us. wait you have to mail in the phone no way it is way too risky.

Can you trade in the phone in person and verify with a human being in person that you'll get the credits applied?

Take pictures of the phone showing the screen and back. Turn it on, show the about screen info, camera app showing that the camera works. That way if they come back and say the phone was damaged etc you have proof that it wasn't. I say this because they said a phone that i traded in was damaged and it wasn't.

The AT&T rep I spoke to this morning said you could ship it in or bring it to an AT&T store and trade it in there. We’ll see if that turns out to be true.

I think bringing it in store is the preferred way so that way there is no funny games saying it arrived damaged, wasnt as described, etc.

I am increasingly tempted to get on this deal, and maybe buy an unlocked iPhone 8 if I can get one ~$200 locally

Not sure I want to trade in my Se2, its been great so far and I got a great deal on that one and it is unlocked

It looks like this should apply to the Pro Max, too, when it becomes available for pre-order next month? But maybe only $700 in promo credit rather than $800? $1099-($13.30*30)=$700

Yep, they’re offering $800 on the 12 and 12 Pro and $700 on the 12 mini and 12 Pro Max.

I wonder why only 700 on pro max and mini, even if you get a storage bumped mini that exceeds 700

maybe because they’re anticipating those will sell the best regardless and don’t wanna take the financial hit on subsidizing it too much

its more that returning it is the problem. but even with the info there is no way to get it to ATT. even trying to prove the phones were returned was hard even with tracking numbers and proof of shipping from the post office. I had all the records printed out even from Newgen who picks up the phones. its all up to the rep you talk too and then their supervises. it was hell getting credit for our returned phones.

I think it has to be mailed in. I would do it if it can be done in person. but I bet it has to be sent it to be tested.

Went through the entire thread and a little confused on upgrading pre-30 months with this offer.

Currently, I have an iPhone XR that I have ~$200 left on. I am planning on paying that off this week in preparation to trade it in.

Say I sign up for this promotion and upgrade my plan to one of the eligible ones (actually $15-20 cheaper per month). I will need to trade in my XR to ATT to receive the credits over the 30 months. If I choose to upgrade pre the 30 months, what would my upgrade costs be?

Do the monthly credits count as "installment payments" towards the cost phone? E.g. If I buy the iPhone 12 Pro, I get the credit for ~$26.67 per month and pay ~$7 per month. If I were to upgrade < 30 months, will the costs left on the line be less my payments + credits or just payments?

You’ll owe ~$35 x number of months remaining aka the device balance.

If one does sign up for the att installments w preorder and doesn’t like the 12, can you return the device and cancel installments within a return policy period?

AT&T chat could not answer this question for me...

do i have to have installment plans for this promotional credit or can i buy the phone outright? And get the promotional credits on my bill each month

surprised they can’t answer. The deal is contingentupon monthly credits for doing installments

outright buying the phone negates any sort of deal here

As someone who hasn’t used AT&T since the iPhone 4s, how do they facilitate those of us who like to upgrade yearly? Is that something that cannot be done with this deal? I’m hesitant to sign up for AT&T because of how obtuse they tend to be with details of these kind of things, but $800 off a new phone is very tempting.
