Hello,

My wife has an iPhone 6 and she upgraded to an iPhone 7. I was told to go to the www.att.com/buyback page to process the trade in, but it keeps giving me a different value for the phone and not the $650 credit. Does anybody know how this promo works? I'm trying to get in touch with AT&T but no luck!

I believe it has to be a new client coming from a different carrier for the $650 deal.

On this link:
https://www.att.com/esupport/articl...w-O.k8J90CihLeIIDEdRCfkg#!/wireless/KM1123971

It says under "trade in process" "The trade-in value shown will not match the $650 promotional value at this step."

Trade-in process
To process an eligible trade-in visit an AT&T store, contact your AT&T account representative, or go to tradein.att.com to complete these steps.

Note: If you received trade-in instructions in the box with your new iPhone, follow the steps below instead to take advantage of this offer.
  1. From the Start a Trade-in tab, search for and select your eligible iPhone modelfor trade-in.
  2. Select Click to continue your trade. The trade-in value shown will not match the $650 promotional value at this step.
  3. Answer the questions about the condition of the iPhone and enter:
    • IMEI/ESN/Serial #
    • Mobile phone number
    • Promotion code FALL2016TRADE

No you can be an existing customer, as long as your current device is paid off:
"new and existing AT&T customers can get up to $650 in monthly bill credits when they trade-in an eligible iPhone."
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1123971
Thanks for the info...Do you know if they pay the same if the phone is in good shape. I may trade in my wife's 6 Plus and give her my 6s Plus

All phones allowed for this promotion must be in good shape, just sucks you get the same $650 credit no matter what phone you trade in. If your a current AT&T next customer your trade in device needs to be paid off and a iPhone 6 or newer and in good working condition

What if promo ends before Apple ships my phone?

The trade in value of 650 you get is in the form of credits toward your account or a gift card? Also I have a 6S+ from at&T I paid off from next to upgrade to my 7 I got from apple full price unlocked. Can I trade the 6S+ in for 650?

It's in credits of $21.67 per month for so many months.

Crap. I had no intention of replacing my current 6 until the 8\anniversary or whatever comes out. This is making me think. Jeez, it's basically free. Hell, I can go with a 128GB 7 and still pay nothing as I get up to $200 from my job toward phone replacement!

Why are they even doing this?

Doh, now just to pick a color, LOL.

It's a new way of a 2 year contract. If you cancel your contact before the 30 months is up, you will not get the entire $650 credit.

I bought my 7+ though apple. I still can trade in my old 6 to AT&T for this promo of $650 credits right?

i thought the same, went from 6 16gb to 7 128gb for $100. playing with my stealth black 7 right now.

Also, I'm thinking about trading in at a store so there's no question about the condition.

You just have to purchase the phone before the promotion ends on 9/30, then once it ships to you (like mine, in 2 months from now) you then complete the trade in for the credits to begin. Also I recommend stopping at an AT&T store to confirm everything and make sure your line is 100% eligible, not getting the $650 credit would make some people rage.

Multiple times I asked AT&T directly about this and got a different answer each time. So I went into the local Corp Store and they said no it has to be purchased from AT&T.com or in store. But I would argue in the terms and conditions it doesn't say you must purchase directly from them, you just need to make sure you selected a Next plan:
"Must purchase or upgrade to a new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7s Plus with AT&T Next®, AT&T Next Every YearSM, or Equipment Installment Plan, with qualified service"

That's what I'm doing too, hoping the store won't notice my failing lock button and prevent the $650 credits.

So if I understand this correctly ... if you preordered an iPhone 7 from www.apple.com but selected "Apple iPhone Upgrade Program" or "Apple iPhone Installments", or "Pay in Full" instead of AT&T Next your screwed and will not be able to take advantage of the $650 credit... Correct ?

I used the Apple iPhone Installments option so I could get the iPhone already unlocked. Your iPhone loan payments is not processed through AT&T but Citizens Bank instead.

I heard about this promo from a friend and didn't really understand it. I really don't like the idea of joining AT&T Next but this promo might suck me in. I am getting tired of selling my iPhone on craigslist every year.

The only thing that scares me is the "UP TO" language. Does that mean you'll only get that much if you have a 6s Plus 128GB in great condition?

It only applies to orders made with the Next Installment plan of 24 or 30 months.

You can trade in a 6/6+ or 6s/6s+ The amount of the credits is $650 in 24 to 30 monthly payments. There is a whole dedicated thread to this here https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ne-7-with-trade.1993715/page-17#post-23400841

They gave you the wrong info. If you bought it on a ATT Next Installment plan and your i6 is pif or your 2 yr contract is up, you qualify for the promotion. You can trade your phone in at a corporate ATT store once you receive the iPhone 7 and they will apply the promotion to your line. The credits will be applied monthly towards your line for 24-30 mo's which ever Installment you chose. It is not the buyback program. Sounds like whoever told you that didn't know about the promotion. You can also get a prepaid label from ATT and mail the 6 in, but I would rather take it to the store.

I'm planning to take advantage of this offer myself, but I'm going to a store to process the trade-in. I feel nervous about sending an iPhone 6s+ in great condition to someone with some fine print saying you won't get your trade back even if it isn't in what they consider to be good condition.

If anyone else has already gone to a store to process the trade-in, I'd be interested to hear about your experience.

Just remember, it's not that good of a deal if you're trading in for the iPhone in 2017. Also the deal gets much worse for those whose iPhone 7 won't be here until November. You'll have to make extra payments and will be out extra credits in order to upgrade next September.

Fine print also indicates "eligible service." Does the promo work for those with old family share/unlimited data plans?

Definitely not as good of a deal if you want to upgrade in a year, but it's still not a terrible deal IMO. If you do AT&T Next Evey Year, you'll get half of the $650 promo which is still more than most trade in services will offer right now for either 6's or 6s's. I don't personally plan on upgrading next year and I actually like having a financial incentive not to do so (I really need to break this habit of upgrading every year ).
